So far all that I have heard is that it would take too long.
If you only wanted to play by yourself, which I don't understand because playing the cpu compared to playing against friends is pure monotony, you could still do that, multi-player would just be an option you could choose (with as many teams as you wanted). The lenght wouldn't be too bad, it would be shorter than playing a year of madden with friends, and I know madden seasons work out fine.
Does anyone have a reason, other than the lenght, as to why this would be a bad idea? I think, other than improved game play, that this would be the best option to add to the game.
It works for madden, and has helped make it the most successful sports franchise in history, there's no reason it wouldn't work here as well.
It adds numerous dimensions to ML, and if you don't like it, don't use it.

Friend #1 takes a big gamble on a few real youngsters, while friend #2 mixes it up a little: he snags a couple of solid stars like Sneijder and Heitinga (friend #2 is dutch). But friend #3 goes straight for the goods and grabs the hottest player he can find, signing Totti in a miracle deal, which of course everybody else complains about.
