This problem is because you have your monitor refresh rate set to high.

Go to Control panel/nvidia control panel/display/change resolution and make sure that it is set to 60hz.

This was a very common problem with 2008, hope it works for you.

You mean lowering the refresh rate for lower resolutions?

Ex. 1024x768@60Hz instead of 80Hz

I play 1440x900@60Hz... gonna try that.

jonny1leg, as my monitor is 22" wide screen, it has no chance to run the games higher than 60 hz. Additionally, I measure frame rate with fraps and it always reads "60 fps" constantly. My problem is not about refresh rate and I cannot be sure what it is about. But I think it must be related with the games (pes 2008 and 2009) themselves. Games are always optimized for nvidia cards. Mostly, ati owners have strange problems about games and they cannot solve them unfortunatelly. Ati 4850 is my first ati card and probably will be the last one. My former card was an Asus Nvidia 8500gt (512 mb) and I never had a problem except poor performance at latest games such as crysis and race driver grid which was quite normal for a starter level card.. But I never had fast gameplay problem in pes games. I was playing pes 6 smoothly at any resolution, at high details and playing pes 2008 with no problem. I will buy a nvidia card or exchange my 4850 with one of them.

I don't blame ATi for your problem at all abondanzieri. Play around with the graphics card settings in CCC. Try and enable everything and set each to maximum. All you're looking for is ANY sort of change.

I am sorry but ccc is something which makes your games run problematically. For example when ccc is running, I cannot play race driver grid normally. After I uninstalled ccc, my games run much better and I can change all settings in games' own menus. Why isn't that same with pes 2008 or 2009? I do not think my problem can be solved by changing ccc settings. I tried every single configuration as well, nothing changed. If ATI wants to be better, it must be much more careful about customer problems and try to make better drivers. Although too many ati user complain about problems about pes and fifa 2009, ATI is indifferent to them and only cares about games such as crysis, worldcraft ...

CCC doesn't cause any issues at all with any of the games I play - including Race Driver GRID. Surely that in itself is an indication as to a bigger problem at your end?

What kind of "bigger problem" Don Sweey? May my graphic card be defective?
But I do not believe so because it can run race driver grid at 8xaa ultra high details and at 75-95 fps.

More that a particular setting on the card, or in CCC, wasn't set correctly therefore you're having issues you shouldn't be having. By not having CCC - and it not setting an option or two - you're fixing most of your problems but not all.

Yeah its a strange one and probably something to do with the frame rate limiter in the demo having a bug. Can remember the PES2008 demo having problems with nVidia 8XXX series cards thinking they had less than 64Mb of memory and only allowing low detail :fplm:(software rendering on the CPU). What was worse is it happened in the full game too until the 1st patch arrived. Was glad kitserver solved the problem before then :).

once again

If you run the game at full screen, does the game run at high speed?
Do you press alt+enter to make the full screen or click full screen icon with mouse?

Once againg people (tried on 6 machines which has that issue and worked with 100%):
1. Run settings exe - set window mode and apply.(ticks with framerate skipping and so on doesn't metter althouth I have vsync synhronization checked - better performance).
2. run pes2009 exe it will be opened in window mode.
3. click on a window button which enlarges window (this will set window mode to standard full screen).
4. play game at normal speed.

tested with nVidia chipsets.
probably there is a problem with synchronizing refresh rate while running game straight in full screen mode. these steps solve problems...

I have tried doing it that way, and although speed seems more constant (game + dead balls), it seems vsync isn't actually working.

There's a lot of flickering, even though vsync IS enabled.
