PES5 Impressions thread

Sitting at an airport lounge at an undisclosed location. Played a good 3-4 hours of PES5 (Not WE9!) last night. Full Impressions in a few hours. NO photos though, that was not allowed unfortunately.

I have to say that for those of us who have played WE8LE, the interface and options are almost exactly the same both in terms of look and functionality. The ML looked exactly the same as in WE8LE, with the execption of the button graphics, which are a bit different.

The Middle Ground (or something like that) ability is awesome! I played a match with Chelsea and shot a stunning goal from over 30 metres with Lampard. A fucking piledriver of a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced with an helpless Gigi Buffon trying to get to the ball. Awesome! After that I picked Inter and kept trying to do the same with Veron and Adriano. These guys are now lethal outside the box with their shooting ability....very, very cool, but didnt feel over the top at all..its just nice that you can finally score from farther outside the box unlike in WE8LE. Adriano's shots were just really powerful. Of course, I then tried with Zanetti and Makelele to no avail..so you need to have a skilled, hard shooting player to pull it off. Lampard's and Robbens stats were much improved btw.

Goalkeeper animations have changed a lot. They can now throw the ball almost to the halfway line. When you have a throw in and use o to throw, you get a powerbar and the animation is faster as is the throw itself. Not as slow as in WE8LE. Also, when pass with X, you get a powerbar. You can see players staming under their names in the HUD. You can turn that off if you want.

I can confirm that there's loads of new national teams like Ecuador and so on...not sure, if anyone of us cares, but there they are.

Network option was available in the main menu of PES5. This is no surprise of course, I mentioned online gameplay in Europe PS2 a while ago. Arsenal and Chelski kits look awesome. Faces are much improved with the likes of Fabregas, Hyypiä and Senderos looking superb.

The code I played was not finished, but it did have 50/60hz option and in 50hz there was NO slowdown and in 60Hz, in four matches, there was *very* little slowdown during one corner kick. Not nearly as evident as in WE8LE, where I tghought the slowdown wasn't bad either. Like when you take goal kicks in PES5, the camera moves smoothly and slow/jerkily like in PES4/WE8LE.

Riot said:
Goalkeepers...hm, at first felt they aren't much better than in WE8LE, but they are. They spill the ball a little less often (I played on four stars) and hold on to it better. They are more aggressive in corner kicks. I cant really tell better, I need to play a whole lot more. I gotta say that while the goalies in WE8LE are a bit dumb, I like that high scoring matches. I think they've improved the goalies in PES5/WE9 a bit.
Riot said:
I will post more details tomorrow, trying to finish up the preview right now, but I need to check some things in it after a good nights sleep. Well I'm trying stay up to watch Real Madrid's pre-season match :)

I do NOT have a beta version, I played the "first" version of PES5, which basically was the first english version of Winning Eleven 9.

I'll update this thread with more impressions. This thread is closed so it contains only relevent impressions. Feel free to open a new thread to discuss all of this.

Many thanks to Riot for letting us know about the game (over here)

If you have any questions for him, I suggest you form an orderly queue over here.

And some WE9 impressions:

Brought to you by pelaajalehti.com. I would really appreciate anyone who rips this text and copy/pastes it somewhere, to mention that.

Flew to an undisclosed location in Europe to play PES5 on Friday night.

First up. I haven’t touched PES4 since the release of Winning Eleven 8 Liveware Evolution. To my mind, at first LE was a slight disapointtment. I thought it was way too difficult to hold on to the ball and it was very difficult to dribble around players. After a few weeks of constant playing, you got used to it and now the game seems near perfect. No going back to earlier versions for me. I love it. If only one could score from free kicks and corner kicks.

The reason I’m saying that I haven’t played PES4 at all since WE8LE is that you know that I’m comparing WE9/PES5 to WE8LE and NOT PES4, of which I don’t remember much of in terms of nuances. I played a few matches of PES4 now that I got back and while the main menu looks totally different to PES5, the ML menus are very similair. Gameplay does feel markedly different.

Bad news first. I was not allowed to distribute new screenshots/photos I took due to various legal reasons and the fact that Konami wants to unveil something at the PlayStation Festival in Japan related to WE9. Also, the negotiations regarding club teams Are ongoing for PES5. Chelsea, Arsenal and Porto were licensed in the version I played and the jerseys looked great. The players faces are certainly improved over WE8LE. Gilberto Silva, “Cesc” Fabregas and Senderos for example looked superb. The faces are very accurate.

Sorry about no photos of players, stats etc, I will post some when I get the okay. But, yes, Fortune’s stats are finally lower and Lampard’s are much, much improved…and the boy Zlatan’s much improved as was Robben’s. My man, Liverpool’s defensive rock, Sami Hyypiä Finally looks like himself too. He’s stats are realistically low too. Have you seen him playing in the Finnish national team? We obviously need Carragher alongside him to perform.

Btw, Gunners-fans, I want to know what you think about Viera leaving? Getting that much money for a 29-year old player who put in stellar service for nine years, is free to try out new things in my opinion and I don’t think anyone can feel betrayed that he left. He gave nine years, that’s certainly enough. Were does this leave Arsenal’s midfield…I SO wish Edu would still be in the team now. I saw Cesc Fabregas playing in Helsinki a few years ago at the under 16 World Cup and he was amazing even then, but he isn’t Viera, at least not yet. Anyway, like Snoop said “back to the lecture at hand”.

Ok, so earlier in the week I got the call, on Friday I flew to an undisclosed location to play what I thought would be the near-final version of Winning Eleven 9. I was able to spend a good 3-4 hours with the code. To my surprise the code I got to play was the very first “draft” of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 instead. So everything was in English, you had your 60Hz option and some Japanese left from the translation. So for all intents and purposes this was WE9. However, I couldn’t find no Nippon Challenge mode. An image of the main menu of WE9 has been posted at various PES-sites and the Nippon Challenge is the bottom option. This was removed in PES5 but other than that, the interface is *exactly* the same as WE9.

Now keep in mind this code was not final and even small changes can effect a WE/PES game a lot. IF, like me, you’ve played WE8LE a lot, then PES5 will be a déjà vu. The interface, the layout, how the Master League looks, is nigh on similair. There’s hardly any changes in that sense. This feels like a repeat. Not a bad thing, but I would’ve expected a whole lot more. I’m really curious what the Japanese consumers and games media will say about this. Then again, I only played one match in ML and didn’t check the various menus, so I don’t know what kind of changes have been done.

First up, the main menu has, which we already know, the Network mode, which I couldn’t try out. But it’s been no secret for months that PES5 will have online gameplay on the PS2 in Europe. The real kicker is an very funky option in the Options screen that I briefly saw. Seabass did hint about this in interview I did with him last fall, but it’s been very quiet since on this topic. Now it frustrates me a lot, but I cannot say what this option is since it’s a feature Konami will unveil at the PlayStation Festival (apparently). Konami's swore me not to tell and I'd probably get Seabass's hit squad after me, if I told you.

Needless to say, as soon as I can tell what it is, I will. I will be really pissed off if someone scoops me to it.

Ok so the match menus are pretty much the same as before but one exeption is that teams are divided into Euro 1, Euro 2, Asia/Oseania, America, South Africa. So there are plenty of new (I think, I don’t exactly remember) national teams like Costa Rica, Ecuador, Tunisia (Jaidi!), Chile and so on. Not exactly sure if this is a very exciting feature, but there’s certainly a dozen new national teams available. It was hard to tell if there were new club teams since the names were the usual mumbo-jumbo. Didn’t feel like there was new club teams, but I’m not sure. Again, compared to WE8LE.

I didn’t find Santos or Robinho, but this will probably fixed for the final version of PES5 but not in WE9 due to timing. A nice thing is that all the team emblems in the team selection screens are much bigger than before, so you can actually make out the things. As I browsed through the La Liga and Serie A selections, you can easily tell the teams from their emblems. Small, but nice detail.

Customizing options and editing looked to be exactly like in WE8LE, but switching players from team to another, was a tad easier. Still don’t know why some players cannot be transferred from their national teams into a club team. Gotta ask Seabass. Boots can be edited in a separate editor. Looked like only Adidas models were available. There’s things like bracelets you can put on players wrists and these neck-warmer things. So yeah, there’s more stuff in the editors. You can choose from various running, celebration, free kick and penalty animations! Interface is the same as in WE8LE.

On to the gameplay. Some players now have the “Middle Shoot” special skill or it was called something like that. Lampard has it, Adriano of course has it, Beckham has it (who played a great pre-season match for Real Madrid lastnight), Gerrard has it, Veron has it and so on. Way back in the days of PS one WE-games I remember Edgar Davids having a super high shot rating and we used to try to score with him from like 40 to 30 metres from goal. Maybe not so realistic, but simply put, fun gameplay.

You can now unleash stunning piledriver shots from far outside the box, if you got a player with the Middle shoot skill, space around you, time your running and kick right. I tried this with Lampard, when I found an opening a good 30-35 metres (I think, could be less) outside the goal and struck a stunning shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and went in. I cannot state enough how cool this was. The ball felt heavier than in WE8LE and it traveled with greater speed. The goalies reaction’s were great too. Didn’t feel like a cheap goal that the goalie gava away.

I played my first match with Real Madrid against Inter on four stars. Guess who scored first? Of course, ex-Real Madrid man Esteban Cambiasso with a sweetly struck left foot strike to the bottom left corner of the goal from a superb Veron pass. I played about 6-7 matches against the CPU on 4-stars and while I was able to dominate, I had a difficult time carving open the defense and score. I managed to equalize with an Raul volley, but at that point I was down 2-1 after a superb Adriano header, which utilized new heading animation where the player really puts his body weight behind the ball…looks really cool. The defenders also head the ball out of their own box in very realistic looking ways.

The gameplay is a step up from WE8LE, but similair. Physics play a big part. The pace feels slower and more deliberate. At first it feels difficult to hold on to the ball and dribble around players. Really difficult. You probalby get used to it and there’s much more contact between the players, just as in WE8LE. What I mean is that you don’t have to press X to rough and tackle players since just running alongside them or against them causes fouls. Players might lose their balance, spin, move on or just shake off the hit. There was quite a few nice new animations when a player is tackled. Many times when I was tackled, pressing diagonally resulted in a nice hop over the tackle, or my player rode the tackle and managed to keep the ball and sped on.

The players feel much more alive. AI-controlled Veron kept dribbling and stopping, doing step overs. And when I controlled a skilled player like Ronaldo or Fernando Torres (hmm) and moved around the pitch, the players do various types of dribbles far more often than before. There’s more “small” passing animations too.

AI felt good though it takes umpteen matches to really know. I was impressed how Inter played against my Madrid with their slick passing and slow build up play. The CPU teams FELT like a threat which they don’t feel like in WE8LE.

Someone on the Evo Web boards said the animation looked a bit odd in places and I gotta agree. It looks a bit off with some of the kicks and runs, but there’s loads of new animations for various situations too, so you have that on the positive side. The animation’s are definitely the big change in the game. The gameplay feels more organic through the varied animation, though I felt the ball bounces a bit too much even with players like Del Piero. This was something that bothered me in WE8 at the start.

Goalkeepers…tough to say. They got new animations, can throw the ball almost to the halfway line a’la Peter Schmeichel and Harald Schumacher. Looks cool. My impression was that the goalies spill the ball as often as in WE8LE, but then a few times I had a clean shot in a one on one situation and the goalie just saved the ball without spilling it. After my session I felt the goalies were better than in WE8LE and they dealt better with goal-scramble situations.

Other small details. The HUD is very much configurable and you can have the players staming bar underneath their names, so you can tell how tired they are. Throws are better too. When using the stronger throw, the animation isn’t as frustratingly long as in WE8LE and you can, the same way when shooting, adjust the power of the throw by pressing down the button. This works both for X and O throws. Same with passing.

I really didn’t know what the Memorial Match feature was when I read some of the Japanese previews, but now I know and it’s a feature that’s been long, long overdue. One of those features that EA, Midway and Visual Concepts know you have to have in your sports game…player stats! Now I just have to mention that when I met Seabass last fall, I was telling them we were all wanting a feature like that 

For real now. It seems each Option File can be named, so it’s basically your profile. So you go to Exhibition Match and you can select a Memorial Match, which is and Exhibition Match, but your stats get loaded from the memory card and Player 2’s stats get loaded…from memory card 2. So basically, this is about friends taking their memory cards with the option files to your house when you play the game, so you can keep track of your wins, losses and draws. So you play the match and after that you can check out “aggregate stats” where it lists your wins, losses and draws. It also has average rates for things like goals scored, total shots on goal, penalties, free kicks, offsides, fouls, cards and total possession. It’s a bit clumsy in design, but it’s a very, very welcome feature. The problem being that I usually play with two mates, so we are going to have to swap memory cards after every match, which is a bit risky. But I love this feature and I will love watching my played games stat go beyond a few hundred. Sad, but hey!

So yeah, while overall the looks in terms of presentation like WE8LE, there is lots of neat changes. I think we all agree that WE8LE doesn’t require many changes in it’s gameplay, it’s about as perfect as it’s gonna get on current generation. Hmm, which reminds of the next-gen PES…more about that later.

And that’s it. I’ll be honest and say that I have to save most of the details and new features for our magazine Pelaaja’s August issue.

Special shout out to WE fans at Evo Web, Visual Concepts and at Future Publishing, you know who you are!

Gameplay – Pro Evo 5 is slightly slower than PES4, which I think drastically improves the game In the aspect of realism which is basically what Pro Evo’s are known worldwide for. But once again KONAMI have found a way to improve gameplay, the player move much more freely, although from what I played there is still only a few ways that your player can run(the usual D-PAD shit).

Graphics – The Pro Evo 5 graphics are not much to comment on really, basically there just the same as pro evo 4(as expected). Although many more players look very realistic in the ways they look, now players haven’t all got the same muscle build in there legs etc. Pitches have been vastly improved and are now looking good. That’s it for graphic improvements really.

The Game – The game it self is more enjoyable than Pro Evo 4, the few games that I played were not hampered by the computer ‘cheating’ me out of victory, unfortunately I did not get to have a look in the PES shop which I was looking forward to doing. The menus look plain and basic, as it is only a beta version although a bonus is the music, which may I add has been improved very well, although It isn’t real bands etc, its still made up shit(I think). The in game sound has been improved slightly, the crowd do scream when you hit the post etc.

Referees – The ref’s where more intelligent with the advantage rule and used it wisely, they didn’t make MANY stupid decisions but as expected there we a few, also I saw no Collina on ref selection.

The Commentators – The commentators still basically suck ass, stupid comments and they also sound cheesy(I hope the commentators are changed in time for the real game) although they do try to keep up with the play this time .

My Experience & Matches – As RIOT has already stated it is very satisfactory that players with a powerful shot can now shoot from long ranges, some players look so like themselves for example, Hyypia, Carragher, Terry.
My Matches

Liverpool 0 – 1 Chelsea – I chose to be my hero’s Liverpool and now I can say some of the players are
over rated for example, Carragher, Garcia. But I had to get to grips with the new pace of the game. I went down 0-1 to a Robben run and cross which met the head of Drogba and Dudek had no chance I thought maybe 5* was too high to start with. Once I got to grips with the new game I took they match by the throat but despite me having a lot of the possession I couldn’t carve out a single god damn chance. This resulted in the end score being 0-1.

Arsenal 1 – 2 Barcelona – Before I tell you about this match I just want to say how happy I was to see a licensed English Club VS a licensed foreign club, it was soooooo satisfying. Now this match was a lot more even, I received the ball after Pires slid through a terrific through ball which shred open the Barca defence and Henry’s pace helped him run past 2 defenders before sliding a placed shot underneath the helpless keeper. Then the after the interval Ronaldinho picked the ball up from the half way line and dribbled past 6, on his way he kept stopping and turning, doing step-overs, flicks and loads of shit and he was untouchable, then he simply passed to eto’o who rounded Lemmon(Lehmann) and slotted the ball into an empty net. Once again Ronaldinho took control over the ball, (I swear he uses a Velcro ball and boots) he ran into the box and I decided to see what happens when you bring the keeper out, so out came dodgy Lehmann and nearly snapped Ronnys leg, which resulted in a peno and a booking, so Larsson coolly stepped up to send Lehman the wrong way and it hit the net. I was gutted to say the least.

Real Madrid 3 – 0 Bayer Leverkusen – I decided to pick Madrid for this match, do to me being good with them on pes4. And what a good choice it was, this match was one sided, I had 14 shots and 7 on target and I had 61% possession. My first goal was a peach of an effort from Raul, as Beckham crossed Butt came out to claim it and missed so he rushed back into his goal, as it was rolling out to the left wing carlos raced up crossed and was met by a sublime volley from Raul which smashed the post and flew in. For my third goal Figo took on two defenders then passed to ronaldo he then laid it off for Zidane and he made no mistake in leaving the keeper stranded as he released a thunder bolt into the bottom left hand corner. For my third it was pure luck, I had just won a corner, so I crossed it as you do and then Woodgate had his back turned and I was stunned when I watched the ball hit him on the back of the head and trickle across the goal line.

So all in all I had a great couple of hours and will definitely be getting the complete version, I will also be playing the game some time next week, so I will be getting up some pictures(in game only). My experience will never be forgotten and I have made a couple of new mates

I'm not quite sure at the moment but the interface is different. Similar to the old ISS games the teams are in groups

Such as Europe A, Europe B, Africa etc...
Same for the club teams as well.

Unfortunately i'm restricted to Online and Training Mode.

No 360 from free kicks
Penalties seem the same
Henry still has the one step free kick but hes been slighty toned down in his stats. Consistency is 5 rather than 7 ? i maybe wrong about that
CPU player still charges in LVL 5 training mode but it isn't agressive sometimes it will block paths now too.
You can now control the weight of a normal pass in free kick and through ball.
For throw ins you can have a charge bar
There seems to be a new stat called the middle shoot not sure how to do it yet.
Sorry for my unorganised post trying to find these damn dns settings to play against people
Please keep the questions coming

I haven't seen any slowdown
I've just played online twice now two laggy matches. But not sure if this was down to 60hz 50hz yet.
The gameplay feels the same as we8 le but there is new animations such as players spinning in disgust when losing the ball. Volley and chesting seems to have changed too. I wouldn't say players got big boosts some have been slighty tweaked but i don't remember pes4 stats due to so many updates etc..

The player faces have improved loads. Freddie L and Vieiras faces look so like real life head shape and proportion. Cisse stats haven't seem to been improved.

I can't try out match mode unfortunately still trying to new skill that was in the video.

I must say defences are better. They seem to close down lanes and passes even better. But this could be due to the defence stat. Heading feels much more improved now. You can pass to another player properly with a header feels a bit faster too.

I will try and capture later on unfortunately i have a JP ps2 so i had to change to my bros pal ps2 hence no captures at the moment. There is now a controlled shot option where you can rifle shots across the ground. I haven't noticed anything else yet. Since its really laggy online. Also players react to bad tackle more chasing after players and the window has shorted for "refs allowing the play to carry on". Gives a nice report to any injuries at half time.

The goalkeeprs still don't seem to hold the ball very well even with the weakest of strikes. The R2 shot is a controlled shot with less power. You short normally but you hit the R2 button straight after.

I'm uploading the r2 shot tutorial to my webspace as we speak. I can't get it to work i'm puzzled as to when your supposed to press it but i haven't dwelled on it too long. Regarding headers you can now press the circle button for a longer/bigger header pass. Heading in the game seems better passing wise.

Defensive headers seem the same.
I haven't been able to the new trick i wonder if its even in this build to be quite honest.

Online mode when i mean laggy xbox live pes4 laggy. Animations cut out can't cancel commands but it hasn't been that bad. Its playable but i haven't had a smooth game yet.

http://jide.animebots.co.uk/test.avi

I've done that but maybe it isn't a low controlled shot.
Quite puzzling

Yes you can do that the player opens his body. I've done it quite a few times with henry. I was experimenting with the R2 button and the ball becomes a slight float shot in the air.
Its quite tricky to do

Let me upload some screens

The only 3 new teams i recognised were Latvia(Not sure about that one)
Ivory coast?
Venezuela

Problem is there isn't a license for alot of teams. So i can't recognise some club teams.

Liverpool = Rigaloose
I don't mind taking some pics of players stats, but remember this isn't the final build so this could change.
5 players per poster ?

I was trying to do the Drack back move......i realy hope its in the game and not only in PES5.

Anyways i hope i can made some vids later on with my Webcame lol ;)

Kashkabald said:
Taken from http://tinyurl.com/8wmmm EDIT : and translated by me, yay for being Portuguese.

" Hello

I'm a PS2 online beta tester and they sent me PES5 so I could try out the online mode. It's a beta version meaning the only things you could do were training and playing online. Even though it was a beta it came with all the teams and in-game options.

I could say that I liked the game very much. Like always, in the beginning it doesn't seem that there isn't much improved but then you start seeing them. I'll go and list some of the stuff I've seen... not a long list or I won't ever end this list :)

- you don't use R2 anymore for sidesteps, you now simply use the d-pad... first I though it was a little strange, but I found it wonderful later on

- you now notice even more the player's characteristics, mainly on ball control, and it depends alot if you're running or not

- FC Porto licensed (that means the end of Joy Corsa and co) but with last year's team. EVERY team is like that, but maybe when it's out some teams will be updated (Kashkabald's note : PES3 beta had this too, but the full game updated teams like Real Madrid, so...)

- Cristiano Ronaldo had the "plastic surgery"

- There are injuries that happen without anyone touching him, I even saw one that fell and the referee wouldn't stop the game and I had to throw the ball out so he could be assisted. After that, the referee just threw the ball.

- The L1 through pass is much more effective

- etc.

As for the online mode, here's also a short resumed list:

- NO LAG. Without a doubt the single most important thing, the games I've played were lag-free or almost lag-free (and my connection was not that special, 512k download and 128k upload), but not that much and not like those unplayable PES4 games.

- More logical room organization : you choose the server and in each server there are different game rooms. (official ranking games and also friendly games) the only ones that were active were official ranking game rooms.

- The existence of 4 divisions that are being constantly updated. They go from Amateur division to the first division and you have to reach a certain number of points to go up in divisions.

- A lot more statistics and user info (goal average, favourite links, favourite player, win streak, etc.)

- Co-op game mode! (I haven't tried it yet, but I've played against a team that had two players playing on it)

- Existence of a typed chat (I don't think you can use a mic) with a possibility of editing pre-witten phrases. you can use the chat in the breaks and in the replays, as well in the menus)

- You can create a Friends list, find a user or block users from playing with you

Atleast in this version you can't create leagues or cups. I hope that changes in the final version (as well as being able to use a mic!)... I don't know why, but I have my doubts.

Well... I'll end this post here. It's getting kinda long, if I remeber something I'll post it.

PREPARE YOURSELVES! THE ONLINE MODE WILL BE A TREMENDOUS ADDICTION! I'VE BEEN PLAYING NON-STOP.

PS - Konami will probably close the servers at any moment without a warning and will only open them when the game is officialy out  "

Thoughts? Comments?

I think PES5 is heading in the right direction, but please let us be able to use a damn microphone! , or else it'll get tiresome having to select each letter with the d-pad...

I know, I have no posts, but been reading this forum for quite sometime. That is because I used to be a FIFA player, but switched to PES cause of the "scripted" fifa gameplay: always scoring the same way, etc. etc. And this forum can "teach" you how to play PES.

I was one of the lucky persons to be part of the PES5 Beta Trial, and it was a great trial! I've been playing WE9 since it came out, and my conclusion is: WE9 is totally different from PES5! As I can recall the ref didn't blow the whistle that quickly, so that's a big plus. Cause we only tested the online part of PES5, I can't say much about the CPU cheating. In WE9 it is indeed there, and it's a big issue! It totally ruins the fun!

Since I'm getting PES5 mainly for the online part (which by the way plays very smoothly), I don't care if the CPU cheats, cause I won't be playing the CPU that much. PES5 Beta was a great game: better passing, better crosses, better shooting (especially 1-on-1 with the goalie), if I can remember correctly even the L1 + Triangle was working! So I hope that they won't change too much in the final version of PES5, cause it was a great game, much better than PES4, WE8:LE and WE9.

Now I haven't played Fifa 2006, but I'm almost 100% sure it has the scripted things again. I've played 2005 a lot online and all the people in the top 100 used to play 4-1-2-1-2, why? because you could score about 8 goals per game that way. Everybody plays the same in the top ranking of Fifa, passes to the same player, same goals over and over again, beacause palyers are always on the same place! This gets boring very very quickly! I'm confident that that will happen again with 2006.

Conclusion: Just wait for PES5! If they keep it like the beta version the game plays perfectly! In my opinion WE9 is a bit of a crappy game (I still enjoy it, but that's because I mainly play against friends), but PES5 is gonna be the bomb!

pes5 is slower than we 9.. it felt wierd at first but the second game i went spurs and scored some nice goals..won 3-0 and it felt better then...

baros is still at liverpool though! crouch is at liverpool but his stats are crap

owen is at newcastle

davids at spurs

everton have got neville etc

viera at juventus..

the intro is pretty cool.. cool music

the commentary is crap still... sound effects suck!

game play looks very much luck we 9 but feels slower in places but it can pick up momentum... also forwards can pull away from defenders it seems!

My first impression of the game is good in the sense it is more realistic but certain things annoy me. I know all the reviews have suggested that the game plays more like a sim rather than an arcade game but I think some of the fun aspect has been taken away. It is very hard to skin (run past) people and leave them for dead as the dribbling is a lot more difficult plus defenders seem to catch you up very quickly, even if you are someone quick like Bellamy, and that was even on 3 stars :(

PES5 is a lot like WE9 but obviously there have been some updates, like Bellamy at Blackburn and Joe Cole has his proper face unlike in WE9. I have only played 1 half games (during my lunch break) but will play more this evening and will update you guys on the game a little more.
I am planing to create a moves list like what was seen at www.pesmoves.com to encourage showboating and full use of the range of moves available.

Please don't bother grilling me about where I got the game from but I am sure that anyone that ever patched their previous copies of pro evo 4 also has it, even if like me it's just for the time being while they wait for their pre-ordered copy of the game.

Another thing that is both likeable and annoying at the same time is the player physics. Before players might run through each other or more than likely stumble a little. Now they bounce off each other, I have even bounced off my own players and once the referee got in the way big time.

The computer tends to abuse this big time and I have often been barged off of the ball by average players when I am someone like Gerrard or Zidane that have good balance.

I'm getting better all the time and I am forced to "play football", keep ball, build up play, etc. I love the controlled shot action and my long shots are coming along nicely. Very rarely can I skin someone but Henry and Martins are pretty good at that :)
