BAL MODE - How to get good ratings - idea's thread

Hi guys,

I've enjoyed reading all the above posts, lot's of useful thoughts in there. But this 1 question keeps bugging me when I play BAL (makes me switch between 10 and 15 (even 30) minute matches all the time):
Are the match stats (passes-completed-shots-ongoal-etc.) weighed against this setting? In other words: do you get higer ratings more easily if you only play 30 minute matches?
In my view this shouldn't be the case. Seasons take too long with 30 minute matches.
What are your thoughts on this subject?

My apologies, it finished 3-0 and I picked up MoM

Let me think. 2 goals and 1 asist, finished 3-0.
7.5 and MoM is expected in my opinion. For 8.0, more touches, in other words; more passes, more intercepts or more shots are needed. But very close to a 8.0 rating I think. This is my opinion :)

Hi there, just a comment I have the perception that if you make the plays of the game your rating increases to max, lets explain:

1.- You score the goal in a 1 - 0 match you get an 8 if you played all the game, but if you just play 15 minutes of it you will get a 8.5

2.- Your team was losing for 2 goals, you enter in the second half and score one goal an one pass to another goal you get a 8.5, you score 2 or 3 goals you get a 9.

3.- The game is 1 to 0 winning and you enter an recover balls in your own goal, you get an 8.

4.- You just pass the ball all the game but no score no pass to goal, no important recovers you get maximums a 6.5

5.- You run all the field, recover balls and have one or two shots on goal in a 0 to 0 game you can get maximums an 8.

Thats what is happening to me in pro mode.

I agree with that to a certain extent. The same contribution in a specific scenario outweighs others.

Example.

My first competetive match was for Man City. Score was 0-0, I came on, roughly on the 70th minute and scored the winner. My passes read 8 (6), only that one shot on goal. Basically nothing to boast about. But I got 8.

Second game, winning 2-0. Came on as a sub 60-65 mins. Scored a Hat-trick and ended up with a 7.5. So your input when needed, has more impact on your overall score, I pressume.

Well I think that the ratings are done in a way that it compares every player's performance. So it doesn't matter how long the match takes because it does a comparison. I play a 10 minute match and I got an 8.0 when I played really well.:D

i think seabass sits in his office and watches every game then rolls a dice and thats the rating you get.

Although it might seem there is a randomness aspect of the rating, I still think that there is a strong correlation between performance and the score.

I think that if you felt like you didn't play as well (didn't get enough touches, were running around without the ball alot, not receiving or giving nice passes, not intercepting, not shooting, etc) then the score is going to wiggle between 5-6.

If however you played so well that you have determined the outcome of the game, then there is a high chance you get a rating greater than 7.

I came on once as an RMF and was running the right flank and crossed a nice one for the CF to score the winning goal late in the game and i got an 8. I don't remember doing more than every time. Which also highlights the importance of filling the role you play.

I think that the score depends on constantly performing in the field. some games as AMF I would make killer passes/assists in first 15-25 min of the game and nothing after that. I would think i deserve at least 7, but end up getting 6/6.5.

:shocking:How? Everyone I knew said like I did. The 8 is almost impossible in the first season. Maybe it depends on the difficulty.

well, one time i just came on from bench, made an assist, and got 8.0.

i play SS on top player, but since teams dont have SS positions sometimes, they put me in AMF instead (usually).

I made an assist, scored and had almost all passes on target (on the first season) and I got a 7.5. :(

I've just come to the conclusion that it may as well be completely random, the ratings system is absolutely pathetic. I play CMF for Portsmouth and it's almost impossible to get a good rating, unless I can make about 10 interceptions, and score a hatrick along with 2 assists, and knowing this game I'd probably get a yellow card for flicking the opponent which will downgrade my rating to a 5.5.

Maybe condition arrow effects on rating.
I had a purple arrow, scored only first goal, we won 5-0 against Athletic Club. Doing nothing important except first goal, only playing with auto-move button, passing around. Result 7.5 rating and MoM. Henry scored a goal too(fourth goal if i'm not mistaken), but he took only 6.0 rating.

What is your opinion?

By the way difficulty was regular.

Here is the thing:

i've found i get much higher ratings when i'm more involved in the game. there are times i've scored 2 goals, but disappeared for 40+ mins at a time and end with a 6.5 or 7. if i get a load of touches on the ball, good pass percentage, good shots on target percentage, and a decent distance dribbled i get a good rating.

8.0 means you had an exceptional game, good percentages and you were involved with much of the action

7.5 means you contributed a significant part of the game, yet had bad percentages or disappeared

7.0 means you did well, decent job, not phenomenal

6.5 means ok

6.0 means not bad

5.5 means you were better off not even on the pitch

^I agree.
Sometimes though, it seems as if the game doesn't want you to get a good rating as it decreases a 0.5 off your rating. But anyway you need to be involved in the match to get a good rating.

What i am certain of is that there are a combination of things you need to do in order to get above a 6.5, and this is depending on your position.

I started a BAL in a CF position, but didn't enjoy it that much so started again as an AMF. I might be stating the obvious here, but in either of these positions, along with SS and WF, you HAVE to have a shot in a match, even off target and this will be the difference between a 5.5 and a 6.0 or a 6 and a 6.5 if you've had a better game.
I'm not really saying you have to have a shot as soon as you can if you’re starting a match, but if your team is not great, and you’re sure you'll be subbed at about the 70 min mark and it's say the 60th minute and you haven't had a shot (this is likely as the A.I can be very poor and not assist you), you need to. Again, obviously on target will help. Simply put the more shots on target in these positions bump your ratings up.

As i said before, its no good just having good shooting stats on its own, (even though it could earn you a 6.5) you need to coincide it with quite a few interceptions, (especially midfielders) and no more than 4 or 5 missed passes.

Interceptions are key, and i'm certain that if you've made 5 or more, this corresponds to a probable .5 increase in your rating. It also appears that if you take some set pieces, this helps. (god knows why)

With substitutions, if you come on after the 60th minute, and complete nearly all your passes, and have a shot or more on goal you’ll probably get a good rating, and if you score or assist, this rating will definitely be 7 or above. However, if you don’t have a shot if you are in an attacking role, let alone not complete many passes you’ll get 5.5 or possibly a 6.0. Simple as that. So again, in an attacking role here, you need to have a shot, preferably on target.

Touches on the ball, and area of play I don’t think are quite as important, however, if you’ve made more than about 35 touches, and your stats show that you’ve given the ball away of have been dispossessed no fewer than roughly 4 times this will help your ratings considerably.

A combination of these elements are vital, and it can cause a lack of enjoyment in the game if you’re constantly thinking about them when playing, but you don’t really need to do this. As it says in the BAL mode, think about the roles of your position, try to make your passes, and work hard reading the play in order to get interceptions. This is football at is essence. In attacking positions try to get some shots of, and try to assist as well. There is no doubt that the ratings system is to an extent flawed, which is annoying, but as your player improves, and you play for better teams, it will become much easier to get better ratings, and a higher rating average.

Sorry about the long post.

Benny400-

For the most part I agree with what you had to say. I think having at least one shot is an immensly important stat. Easily bumps you up .5. Also I think taking free kicks also bumps up your stats for some reason.

What I disagree with is that you downplayed "touches on ball" I'm almost 100% sure that this matters greatly to midfielders. I've noticed that I can have a flawless passing game and 5 intercepts but if my touches are under 45 I won't ever get better than a 6.5. I've noticed that almost every game I've ever had over 50 touches that no matter how bad my passing was I'll still get a 7.0.

these are just my observations.

it's usually 7.5 if i score OR assist. doesn't really matter if i do both.

I think you have a different game that give you high ratings.;)
Seriously, if I score and assist, it'll be 2 cotributions so even in reality, you'll be given a higher rating.
