I've got a demo extended that lets me change time length, form etc but not teams.

Just played Santos vs Flamengo on 10 min halves, was losing 3-1 came back to 3-3 and scored the winner in ET :smug:

I wouldn't say I'd pick this over Fifa though.

Well, I feared more of the same yesterday when i was downloading the demo. But i can honestly say that It's a big improvement over 12. Gameplay is smoother and a LOT more realistic in how real footy is played. The players also look more realistic when receiving the ball, And the passing is good and enjoyable. Shooting well what can i say, Miles better!. Keepers have a brain this year to. Was clean through and the keeper came out to my surprise like he would in real life and not like last year. Also scored a couple of pearlers! and hit a dipped shot what made a great sound on the bar lol. Not got the hang of crossing yet, Feels a bit floaty compared to last year but that will be me whos not got to grips with it yet. One thing what annoyed me in 12 was players running the ball out near the touchline in true moronic fashion, Not had any of that so far....Out of curiosity what gamespeed have you men been playing it on?

All in all looking promising, Im happy!

Just had the CPU score the most stupid goal, the defender picked up and overhit through ball by me only to collide with the keeper and score an own goal. I've also had the GK parry the ball into his own net once or twice and I've only played 10 games.

The GK animations aren't the best either. I've played PES 12 a few times with mates and it's an improvement on that.

You must be seriously unlucky, I've had none of that. I've had the ball bounce of my players when I've attempted to pass to them. It wouldn't be PES if there wasn't something daft about it.

I still maintain that I think the 'keeper animations are fine. I think the FIFA players might be expecting more graphically, by all accounts FIFA 13 is going to look slick as fuck, I'd still rather player PES though. I played FIFA 11 and that was anti football. Every fucker scored the same goal.

I like the game to look as much as real life as it possibly can, so im playing on +1 speed setting atm (on PC).
The players run the most similar to real life I found on +1, on 0 they run too slow and slugish.
Shots seem to be fairly similar to real life on +1 aswell, maybe the power shoot is a bit too fast but overall I think +1 looks the most like real life in terms of speed of the players and the ball.

I've been playing on 0, I like the pace of the game, its not too frenetic and well balanced. I'd like to play it on a 15 minute match to really get an idea of how the speeds affect the game on PES2013.

Is that what you normally have it on?

Yeah, I switched to it from 10 minute matches a while back. It really does eliminate the 0-0 draws, but only just. I find the game isn't quite as hectic and rushed as well. I'll certainly be playing my next ML on 15 minute matches. I do hope they got rid of the shit PES Shop this round. Hardly anything is worth having.

Default speed for me. Usually messes up other things when changing game speed.

Had a couple of excellent 0-0 10 minute matches where chances were at a premium.
A.I is excellent on superstar mixing it up when they're attacking.
What I'm also enjoying is the midfield battles, if you go defensive you can get a nice shape with your midfield to force them to go wide and the A.I won't just waltz through them like a gazelle like they did on 2012 on superstar difficulty.

Anyone seen the Kung Fu kick type volley? Looks amazing, Would of scored from it but Terry's big head was in the way.

hate to get off topic, but this was my fear when I bought FIFA 12 since that statement is repeated so much on threads but I haven't seen the same goal twice on EAs recent product.

Umm the shooting in FIFA 11 and FIFA 12 is pretty much identical.

Speaking as someone who has played a LOT of FIFA 12 (I'm in Division 1), the whole game is way too formulaic, and attacking moves are generally the same.

The more I play this, the more I like it. It has something in it that was lost in football games. Enjoyment. I never go mad when I conceal a goal simply because it's mostly my mistake (yeah, glitch moments do happen but rarely, very rarely) and when I score, even not so great goals, it puts a smile on my face.

I have been playing as Italy mostly and noticed that it was easy to keep the ball mostly because of Giovinco, Pirlo (the slow but beastly midfielder) and other players that have a good enough ball control. I thought that it was easy to keep possession. But then I switched teams and played as Germany vs Italy. Instantly the difference is felt. Italy's defence is awesome, but Germany's speed and agility are a given. I also like how the AI plays to his' player's strengths. With Germany, the AI exploits speed and with italy the AI just keep the ball close making it hard to get the ball from him.

To say the least I am impressed by this overall. Sure it has downfalls (but what games doesn't?), but as Sminky (I believe) said, the flaws are appearant, but not nearly enough to hinder the experience which in the end, is all that matters.

For the first time in years, I come in here actually impressed (also because I never expected this much change).

Lower the pass assist. Watching some of the videos on youtube everyone's playing ping pong/hot potato football because they've got high settings for pass assist.

That's one of the key areas where PES12 completely fucked up....

You "mastered" the "manual" passing, only to find out that semi-assisted passing is better and more reliable, which is the reason why the only real solution to playing a balanced game against the people who play "ping pong football" is to join them and then beat them at their own crappy shit.

I hope that PES13 favors the people who play with zero assistance, because if not, it will suffer from the same deficiency that made PES12 unplayable: the fact that any noob who plays with Real Madrid or Barcelona, with fully assisted passing, will easily beat an experienced player who has "mastered" passing with zero assistance.

Konami needs to favor the manual game, manual control is the future, and I feel that they fucked up with PES12 by favoring the lazy players who just want to pick up the game and play, thus effectively ruining the replay value of the game.

PES is a franchise that needs to be balanced or biased in favor of the hardcore gamers, otherwise, the hardcore gamers will quickly realize that assisted passing will always outplay all the hours they spent "mastering" the fully manual passing, and with that realization, the credibility of the franchise goes out the window: the story of PES12...... "it's quite good.... oh no wait, it's really utter bollocks yet again....."

Hopefully Konami has learned that fairly simple lesson by know: you should favor your market, you should not favor FIFA's market, and of course, balance cannot exist in this one respect, the people who dedicate time to mastering a more difficult aspect of the game such as fully manual passing, should be rewarded, as opposed to treated with complete indifference.

That sounds very promising, and coming from you it's a pleasant surprise. Now, what do you think about passing with zero assistance? Do you think Konami will "reward" the players who dedicate time to master fully manual passing?

Or is it similar to PES12 in that respect, in that people who "master" fully manual passing are consistently outplayed by noobs who play with fully assisted passing?

I certainly hope they don't allow full assist passing online, maybe two notches max.
Passing is a difficult thing in football and shouldn't be diluted down making it easy to play like Barca.

The only way to get rid of full assist passing users is to add an online filter. But for offline, the game is very rewarding when you pass a perfect ball manually or shoot a top corner goal in manual too.

And seriously, online and football games shouldn't be together because football games are more of finding the exploit for the easy goal and it shouldn't be the case. But I guess, not everyone shares my opinion.

God, the full assisted passing is awful, a bit like full manual on -2, the ball goes all over the shop. I'm happy with semi assisted on a couple of bars.

Speaking of passing, is it me or is it the best its ever been? I was playing some sexy football with Flamengo yesterday, the range of passing short or long was really enjoyable. I like how, just like in actual football matches -and unlike PES2012 - the AI fullbacks tuck in field when defending.

Completely agreed. I am very, very excited. Looks like I will be coming home to PES after a good 4 years :) :)

First off the demo for 2013 is a massive improvement because as soon as I kicked off it felt just a lot better and a general more realistic and cleaner style of play than last year.
As I got into it though the whole pre demo talk of it being slowed down rang true as neither of Walcott or Oxlaide-Chamberlain could get away more than a few feet and would be caught and it looks like konami have messed with one of the most basic rules of a football game for the third year running, speed.

It isnt terrible but after the rubbish we have in the last two years its not a fantastic improvement on the speed front. It reminded me of the catch up bug in 2011 in a way because the only way I seemed to be able to pull away on 2011 was either use a player who I gave all 99 speed and dribble stats or Ronaldo or Messi but even with those players they would never pull away more than a few feet. In 2013 it seem once a player gets into a position to pull away into space your attacker or the CPU attacker, depending on who is attacking, would run slower and weirder allowing the defenders to catch up because they aren't running like a drunk person. That being said it is probably the best speedwise out of the last 2 years it doesn't feel scripted like last year and it doesnt have a catch up bug like 2011.

Ive played a few more games since and there are a few 2012 style moments of madness although they are usually once every few games rather than in every game on 2012, such as against Portugal, Carroll smashed it into the post it bounces out and Pepes clearance goes over the keeper into the net who was on the floor after diving for Carrolls shot, or the fact that even when my shots are next to the goalie they still dont dive properly sometimes, not like last year where the goalies were all over the place but it still need improvement. An example was when I put Carroll through from a through ball from the right and he shrugs the defender off and powers on not allowing Pepe who was behind him to catch up and I try a manual shot which goes straight at the keeper in the space in between the left arm and his chest and the way he dived made the shot go in, if he stood up and didnt dive he would have stopped it. There was one game where in the first few minutes Ronaldo walked through three Germans defenders like they were not there and I tried a manual shot but he got stopped just in time and for the rest of the game he couldnt get past one defender and one game with England where Walcott couldnt get away even a foot even if I pulled him in the other direction but most of the 2012 BS is gone imo. Except for the annoying thing where the player will keep running for the ball but also try to tussle with the opposition defender even if I try to pull them away and just go for the ball only cos that still happens occasionally.

Overall it looks ok not fantastic, Ronaldo looks a bit babyish but most player have improved graphics, the stadiums are completely dead of atmosphere Ive seen 1 flag in about 10 games, The gameplay is much improved but it still has an air of the 2011 and 2012 pro about it, the manual passing and shooting for me is quite easy Ive got a good hang of it but Ive still to mess with the settings to see what the best is for me. I do love the way the opposition does tricks now and although it doesnt always work for them it still keeps me on my toes so I do like that. The difficulties are now a lot more improved although anything without scripting is an improvement.

Ive said that Ill be switching to FIFA unless Pro improved a lot but whilst I can say its improved enough to make me play it thoroughly and enjoy it, it is not enough imo.
I don't know if its because Im just tired with pro after the 2011 and 2012 excuses for a game that I dont want another year not matter how good it is/seems or if its just the fact that it still has the little things like the lack of atmosphere of the stadium, the speed at times, or if its because I just wanna play my mates online or if I just want proper licences but there is just something telling me to switch back to FIFA for the first time since 2006.

To anyone that isnt as mad as me at the 2011 and 2012 editions I say that you should stick with PES because it is actually good in most parts and amazing in some parts and a bit shocking in only a few parts tbf, but just not good enough for me to stay. I do I feel a lot sadder about moving back to FIFA than when I was playing 2012 because it is finally heading somewhere properly and this is a product that I have stuck up for vehemently against my FIFA mates for years. I might still stay but if they release another demo, it will have to make just as big a leap from the first demo as the first demo did from 2012.
