All fur-coat and no knickers.

Same old shit under new gloss.

...and they've taken away even more control so now the inconsistencies in play at higher levels and at online play are utterly glaring.

Also, controls feel 'clunky', and the hidden depth of skill is gone.

The RNG is extremely strong with this one.

Been playing MyClub and it's the usual story - moments of brilliance i.e. when everything works as it should, then of course at some point in the game the wheels come off, players will just shut down or run momentarily away from the ball at crucial times, they don't help you or provide options - you're forced down the wing and defenders just shut you down no matter what shit you try to pull off, at least in previous versions if you were skilful enough you could get out of a tight spot, nah not here not now. Also, shooting becomes extremely stupid - same generic misses over and over - utter de'ja vu.

They'll change the graphics but never the problematic core programming - same old stupid fucking scripted shit right at the game's core. It's fucking retarded now - really can't ignore it. Love the good bits (i.e. when the game actually works as it should) but then when the AI decides fun is over there really is no point in playing. The game has split personality, and the programming is the problem, it was in the last version and the one before that. Sometimes you get to play the way you want (things work) then for a while you get bottlenecked (you'll find suddenly you are stuck in midfield your players don't offer support and if you try to flick to the player in front to make him go on a run he won't he just walks alongside the defenders and you have no options, or when you break your striker always receives the ball (alone) at around halfway mark with 3-4 defenders in front of him - or hyper defenders catching him up the moment you try to cut in from a run down the wing. Then it get super stupid - ball runs through you when trying to intercept, players don't react (become stunned) or momentarily run away at important times and your cursor just stops working while AI decides its time for a goal. It's shocking - complete split personality, the question is why?

It's to keep the game competitive that's why (that's Konami's way of giving us AI interaction and governing online play) - but why not just allow people to play the way they want - not be governed by RNG shit. In previous titles if you were really REALLY good (i.e. amazing timing and spatial awareness for skills) you could take it around practically everyone yes you could would eventually get the ball taken off you but you could go on a mazey run where you take it around 4-5 people if you had the timing and read the game - as it should be! Finding success in the game for having skill and intelligence.

Now you just get closed down - simple as that, try a trick in a tight spot? Nah. Try a double tap quick twist and run, executed perfectly and while defender overcommitted? Nah, blanket tackled (even though the opposing player wasn't even facing you when he tackled). Try a draw and pull with a stepover once you know the defender has committed himself ..nah he instant recovers while managing (off balance of course) to knock you off the ball. Try to draw the defender down a corner to hopefully cut back quickly? Nah, he instant recovers even though theoretically you've done everything right. Could go on and on and on....Nah blanket tackled! Not even going to get started on the generic shooting and super keepers.

With MyClub difficulty goes up exponentially so now it's just stupid, computer deciding when I can do things, when things will work. Nah fuck that. Stay offline, which is sad because this is how they are providing the interaction - your mistakes will largely not be your own at higher levels.

But that's only when you don't have the 'advantage' - when you do have it you can weave past players doing the usual but the issue is consistency - RNG dictates what's going to happen even when you have the 'advantage' so the consistency is completely gone. You can do the perfect trick in the perfect situation with perfect timing and you get past a player, 2 mins you could do the same thing and you don't. Now this is ok if it's consistent but that's the problem even that isn't - the AI will just bully you when it wants and then decide when you're allowed to play --- of course I'm talking at higher levels btw. It's a travesty and I'm surprised more people aren't standing up about it. Maybe when the dust settles and after the initial "fuck yea PES is brilliant this year! Better than FIFA ... AGAIN!!!" fan-boy nonsense dies down people will hopefully come to their senses.

I keep hoping with each version they're fix the core but nah they never do, just another cheap paint job with the same shit problems all well preserved. The only thing new, besides the paintjob is the greater lack of control you now have given that the AI just blanket-tackles any tricks you try whenever it wants - RNG combined with scripting, the perfect combination to keep stupid people happy.

Sad times for this series. The stupid cunts/kids love it and sadly they're the majority. But veterans like me get to see the series trashed and turned into another stupid yearly cash-in like Call of Duty - same crap just with new graphics. Greedy and lazy.

Well, Thank you my friend. I have been bitching about it since the very first day it came out, and those cunts/kids you mentioned just keep saying it's the best PES ever. I have played PES my entire life and PES 2018 would be the very last one. Heck I may even buy FIFA 18 this year. Really disappointed with KONAMI. Very stupid people.
They decided to make the game slower but didn't bother to actually reprogram it, they just used the same old shitty scripts but with slow motion. So now if I want to move the player it takes like a whole fucking second for him to response, you can imagine what kind of shit you get into when defending. PES is officially dead. RIP.

But I want to thank you my friend one more time, really glad there are still people who have a good taste.

yeah man sorry to admit but sadly yes, its the same game as 2017, i haven;t seen anything better, only the graphics and animations are more fluid thats it, i may go with fifa 18 this year aswell.

But surely that's more realistic?? Who wants to play the 'kids' who don't know anything about football other than trying to take it round every player of the opposition with 'skill moves'?? That is so boring and the complete opposite of a real football match. It's nice to go on a mazy run every so often, but I want realism. Watch a weekend of football and come back and tell me how many times a player takes it past 4-5 players and scores.

And, have you actually played FIFA 18? If you want a game that's exactly the same as the previous year that is it. I'm not a PES fanboy, in fact I usually buy both games at some point, just to mix it up a bit. But FIFA is lifeless and soulless compared with PES.

Why did you just reply to this specific part? Ignoring that PES 2018 is a disaster?

It is NOT realistic. It used to have a soul yeah, but not anymore. Now it is just annoying. There are so many things wrong with PES, but not to be able to control the players is just plain incompetence of KONAMI.

You are spot on my friend, I bought every pes game and this is the worst one. Every movement feels so heavy in slow motion while com just glides on the field without any balance issue or physics whatsoever. Did anybody really test this game fully or how it plays? Or they just put it out and patch it along the way and we all cool with it lol.

What's the point in ML getting players and their stats up when puniest player will run them down like nothing. I am a pes fan since 1999 if I can remember playing it on PS1 back in Bosnia, but I will never buy their game ever again. This is almost bad as my writing I mean come onnnn.

? I'm playing the game and I'm not having this issue?

You have probably increased the game speed to +1. That is what I meant when I said KONAMI used the same old shitty scripts but with slow motion. If you play it on speed 0, which you must do if you play online or myClub, you will notice how incompetent KONAMI is.

The point is, I want my mistakes to be exactly that ...mine!

This is a computer game not real life, if you want every single outcome randomized (which is the RNG that Konami are now putting into the game) then what's the point of playing because then you're just a fucking puppet at the end of the day? And no, I forbid you to use the excuse "ohh well that's what happens in real football by doing so they've actually made it more real" because no mate they haven't. Yes random stuff happens in real football but not robotic generic shit over and over like what happens in PES -> controlled-randomized-generic-robotic-RNG-scripted-realism. Also, this is a computer game, we (the user) should decide the outcome (or at least that's how it should work in a fair gam. Look at it this way, say for example you were playing a tennis game, would you want during every second or third shot for the ball to randomly (in a strange almost preprogramed sort of way) hit off your racket and just loop out of the stadium even though you've press everything correctly while being in the right position? That strangely coincides with the opposing player suddenly hitting impossible shots from all angles (even while off balance) even though theoretically he doesn't have the stats for those shots i.e. he shouldn't be able to!?!? Then say at the end "ohh well that's what makes it like real tennis.. the random bits" ... dude fuck no!

Listen to yourself!

It's scripting plain and simple - don't be a balloon, don't make me call you stupid because I'm real close.

the only thing lettinf this game down as i said is the shooting mechanism, its so automated and has no feedback whatsoever, the ball will rocket from your foot unrealistically unlike the old days of pes 5 and 6 where u can feel the shot weight and such

You can call me stupid if you want, it doesn't change the fact that this edition of PES is the best it's ever been. You seem to realise that this is a video game, yet don't understand that ANY video game isn't going to wholly replicate a real sport. How can it? 22 individuals on a field at one time, the whole thing is made up of random events. You could never replicate that on a computer. And you can't compare a tennis game either because that, essentially, involves two people hitting an object from one side of the screen to another. Much easier to replicate than a football match. I think they do a good job considering.

The point is, not every outcome IS randomised, it's in your head. If you press the shoot button, the player will shoot. If you hold the shoot button, the player will likely hit his shot over the bar. Same with passing. I fail to see how hard that is to understand. How can the computer affect that? And why would it??

Care to explain WHY this PES ist the best one?

I play only offline at speed 0 (on Superstar) and have one big issue with cursor change, especially with my defence. Sometimes I hate the overpowered triangle (+L1), and I hate it when I got that scripted feeling the computer is manipulating the game and it seems that you just HAVE to conceed that goal.
At certain points you can sprint and noone is going to attack you so you can easily walktrough.
How often the attackers of the COM 'know' where the ball is going to be in a rebound, but in the other way around as player you don't have this 'benefit' too much.
I hate it when the COM counterattacks you with those perfect long passes.
I hate the lack of fouls and cards by AI and this should be like in PES 5 /PES 6.

BUT ... the game is still very deep that it really brings a lot of joy for me tbh. I only play offline and after 25 matches played Im learning to deal with the PES2018 flaws like the cursor change and Im getting much better at defending.

There is often so much drama in the games and I can really say I saw many different games already. I play with 3 different teams in a League Mode and every game till now I have to change my plans. Or maybe I just suck or I want to play too 'realistic' and should just take the easy (scripted) way and find those glitches.

But I have fun playing it because finally in this PES the AI is more clever and against better sides you sometimes hardly get the ball.
Okay, maybe for now but I still havent unlocked Legend level, so there is still much challenge for me.

So yes, somehow PES2018 is the best game since PES6 for me.

I agree 100% except that I am having difficulty enjoying the game. These flaws are ruining master league for me. The only thing I enjoyed so far is coop...perhaps because I am not playing against CPU.

Superstar is difficult but in a non-realistic way...I expect as difficulty goes up the CPU becomes better in using tactics and taking advantages of my weaknesses, but it feels more like the CPU players abilities are boosted...you can't intercept a ball being passed between a bunch of players with a maximum passing of 65 even if you are playing with Europe top teams.

PES17 was too easy for me but enjoyable, unlike 18 which I regret buying so far.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the people behind the game know football but they don't understand it

In pes17 I can count on 1 touch passes, or employ a defensive approach and focus on counters...My approach impacts the game heavily. Now I don't feel my approach affects the game that much...especially defensively, as one of my defenders always in the 2nd half leaves his position and an opponent striker receives a long pass and scores

I have the same problem as you. AS my playstyle was counter attack with 2-3 fast passes simnce PES 2015, this year im struggling to humilliation cause when i defend, i cannot move any opponenet with physical contact even if i have Vidic i cannot move even an inche the most weak and short cpu opponenet its like body physics and collisions are completlyabsent this year and it ism too bad for me cause i used to base my defence style on physical contact. The most common goal i concede is when i keep my defender sticked to opponent striker trying to push him out of orbit when he tries to recieve a high trough pass he get its completey comfortably and then he shoots with a way that the ball or his feet pass trough my players body. So i cannot defende or cover the space effectivelly and im really bad in games vs AI this year.
