Advanced Formations (Images)

I beg your pardon?
In that case use full backs (back 4), and two DMF's, it can be hard to break down, but difficult to create lots of attacking moves.

Me and my friend have invented a formation called 'the China'. Basically you have as many strikers up front as you can then have wingbacks and attacking midfielders. That should leave you about 2 centre backs. Amazingly I came back from 2 nil down as China against England to draw 2 - 2. Me and my mates were pissing ourselves with laughter at this, and it was a classic Pro Evolution golden moment.

Observer you are a legend! I have been playing the PES series since it was ISS and I have never come across as good a formation as your 3-4-3. I'd been winning quite easily on 6* ML but was a but bored of my old 3-5-2 as my play was a bit one dimensional and repetitive. This 3-4-3 is class, it opens the game up loads and makes it easy to tear the CPU to shreds and score great goals. In my past 3 games I've won 4-0, 5-0 and 3-0 again and in that time the CPU has totalled 4 shots! Brilliant.

Thanks to all the folks who congratulated me and private messaged me.

Now, let us get back to business :D

This is my current 3-4-3 formation. I must say, it works wonders with me. I used it heavily against all forms of 4-3-3 (human opponents), and I was soo pleased with the results. This formation dominates the mid feild, and very attacking in nature. If you know how to defend wisely, you will find that it holds itself quite good in defense.

I don't want to repeat myself, cause propbably I mentioned this before. However, I want to add here a few tips about defense cause I received messages from many people complaining about inability to defend against 3 strikers. I still believe 3 CB backed up with midfeilds is all what you need back there.

As a former side back, I never give the inside to my opponet. When my opponent have possession on the side, I always keep my player two steps behind (as long as he is on the side most times I don't even bother to sprint after him). Always have the prioprity to defend with the center back, and leave the sweeper as a last resort. I know it is sychological, but I noticed that when you don't sprint after you opponents, he tends to slow down. This helps to give time to ask for the support you need from mid feild. I watch the radar carefully, and keep my focus on intersecting the next pass. Using square to ask for assistance + R2 timed with x will help much in defense.

Another tip is to make use of the goal keeper. Most of the times, I use him as a last sweeper to clear through balls. Many times, I use traingle to catch or clear many crosses (especially if they were launched from near the corner line)

Attacking wise, this formation will make your players all over the place.

In the past week, I played 4 times (long sessions) with this formation. I Won 18, lost 3, draw 3

I add a regular 3-4-3 formation as formation B, and another defensive formation. To be quite honest, I rarely switch to the other 2 formations. The first formation combined with manual control over Att/Def is solid enough in all cases. I apply the following manual stragies: (x) counter attack, (square) zone press, (traingle) formation A, (circle) formation B.

Give it a shot!

so is this formation oso for we9?

Has Observer or JMZ made any advanced formations for WE10 or are they waiting for PES6? I have had most success with their formations which is why I always wait for them to develop new ones! Their formations have always been awesome! I think that they are the only formations that I would actually call advanced as they provide great diagrams of their tactics & they go into detail about how to utilize their formations! Do you guys think there should be a seperate advanced formations thread for each console because soon PES will be on Xbox 360 also! I suppose though whoever is posting the advanced formation could just state the console it is designed for though!

Observer, your formation C in your past couple of posts has to be the best defensive formation I have seen in PES5! I am trying to use it in WE10 but it is near impossible to be a good defender on that game! I await patiently for PES6 in hope that JMZ & yourself will be making some more awesome formations! You two are the only formations that I trust & at least you guys use proper templates!

Hi guys. I don't post much, but I thought I'd show people my formation and hopefully recieve some feedback or tips or whatever. It seems to work pretty damn well, though.

The only team I really have trouble with on 6 stars is AC Milan. We usually go into PK's and stuff. It's pretty solid when I play my friends, too. They like using 4-3-3's and 3-4-3's. The red arrows on my AMF are what I alternate between, depending on the opposing defense.

edit: I'll put up A and B later.

Looks interesting, I for one have not had much success with 4-5-1s, looking forward to seeing your formation A and B

I was suprised it worked as well as it did, too. I don't even use the alternate formations much. The SMFs and the midfield play a big role in scoring, though, obviously. my LMF will come in to score when the ball is being crossed from the right, and vice-versa with the RMF. AMF and CF lead one another during counterattacks, so It's easy to get one-touch goals with this formation. CMF also comes up to join the attack, and finds good lanes for through-passes into the box. DMF acts as a sweeper for the midfield when the attack is on. SB's fill in for the SMF's when they run towards goal, and they also stand-by for a good passing alternative to the SMF's cross.

I'll post the 3-pitch layout everyone's been using as soon as I finish working on it. The two alternate formations basically put a few guys back into the defense or an extra striker into the attack.

You talking about my handwriting? Hahaha.

Any suggestions?

No i meant it looks extremely good and professional the way you set them out.

Formations are also very good.:)

Thanks. I was joking about the handwriting, but, you have to get lazy at some point. I have a question about the sweeper in Form. A, though. Should I change his arrows to diagonally back and then switch the DMF to straight back, or would it be better how I have it now?

It probably wouldn`t make much differance, i would leave it as it is.:)

I beg your pardon?
Omnis that's a really nice looking diagram design, although I can't tell which players are moving where. It is beautiful to look at though.

Lately I have been using Barcelonas default formation and then tweaking it in game if the need arises. Like against Chelsea I'll make my full backs stay back and dominate the midfield and things like that. I've kind of lost my patience in setting up 3 formations as I rarely need to use them. Before the game I'll be able to tell the oppositions strengths and weaknesses and set my team up accordingly. But still every now and again I'll set up formation A if I want to finish my smoke off before kick off.

Still loving PES5, can't wait for PES6.

I snagged one of JMZ's templates to show this one, which I've been having a lot of fun with lately. It's designed for high pressure zone pressing, and it works best versus amateur-ish or even very good opponents who are hyper-aggressive on attack (and who use very pacey teams to do so).

<img src="http://img332.imageshack.us/img332/4594/pressuremb2.gif">

I have been using this with Holland's default team, except with Davids registered, because a pacey DMF seems fairly important. The DMF is the only one I put on high defense, with the rest of the team except for two forwards on mid. I stick Robben as the mid-defense top SS to drop back a little bit and help out.

The idea is to have the back line pressure up the field, and while using zone pressing and being quick on the draw with appropriate offside trapping, it should force opponents to make decisions quickly. If you're playing someone who isn't very comfortable making that split second decision to backpass, you can really control the game. Of course, a couple of mistakes can leave you on your ass.

A tactic I like to use sometimes is the ghetto zonepress, where you just hold X, and hit L1 intermittently to switch around the field making people close distance to the ball carrier. This plus square will see a lot of guys doing it. It is slightly dangerous because it's so blind, but combined with offside traps it can be a lot of fun.

For an alternate formation I like to switch to a similar one but with a completely different philosophy, just in case people think they're figuring it out (and so that you can effectively control the pace of the game). For this have the WB's pulled back as fullbacks, and have the line stay further downfield and don't press much with them. Pull the mid back a bit too and use slower tactics with high counter attacking.

Any comments on improving it are welcome.
