BioShock Infinite [PS3/360/PC]

BELIEVE
The game sucked bigtime, just as its predecessors.

BioShock 1 sucked?

Sweey, what settings are you running it on and how smooth is the gameplay?

I'd like to know what type of preset settings I should be expecting using my setup, not sure if I'm entitled to try and max everything out and expect it to handle it. :unsure:

1920x1080 on high settings gives me constant 60fps - in the benchmarking tool (runs outside of the game through Steam) I got sometihng like 59.7 on high. I'm planning to increase the quality when I play it again this evening as GPU usage was only at around 70% so it can clearly do more.

Dundon's, I've got the FOV tweak where in XUserOptions.ini (in My Documents -> My Games -> Bioshock Infinite -> XGame -> Config) the line MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent is changed from 15.000000 to 28.570000. Then put the in-game slider for FOV to full and you get a good looking FOV, probably around 100 degrees. That will impact negatively upon performance as there is more on screen but with that, try the very high settings (I think they're called that) as a starting point.

Also, to stop the intro movies playing, put a comma in-front of the following lines in XEngine.ini:

StartupMovies=2KLogoSweep720p2997
StartupMovies=IrrationalLogoTest
StartupMovies=UE3AnimatedLogo_ProRes
SkippableMovies=2KLogoSweep720p2997
SkippableMovies=IrrationalLogoTest
SkippableMovies=UE3AnimatedLogo_ProRes

Up to this point, it will definitely work and you'll get one intro move still playing but you can press the Esc key to skip it. To get rid of that one, you should just need to put a comma in-front of these two lines:

StartupMovies=AMDLogo720p
SkippableMovies=AMDLogo72

If doing that causes an issue (black screen on loading) just undo it.

Only played about an hour so far, mostly tutorial sort of stuff so looking forward to the proper story to kick in.

Enjoyable thus far but I've been going slow; listening to as many conversations and voxophones as I can. Visually amazing of course.

Main peeve so far is being unsure whether to attack. For some people I have to walk to their face before finding out they're hostile. Just shoot everyone I guess? I regret killing one man who was minding his own business in his house and clearly wasn't against me yet I still couldn't resist meleeing his head off.

I miss being able to save whenever I liked. At least, I think I could do that in the previous Bioshocks :huh:

I'm sure we could save at will in previous Bioshock games - or that it was obvious when you were saving. I find the save system for this to be horrific.

Twice now I've wanted to exit the game only to find out the last save was taken over 20 minutes prior leaving me to believe that the next save must be coming up. When I want to get out of a game, I want to get out of it not have to keep going until it saves so I don't lose progress.

You could save it at anytime but it would take you back to the last vita-chamber you passed.

Just got to Monument Island and the pace is picking up, the skylines are great fun.

I have to agree with the above, that not being able to save the game at your own will, as you could in previous versions, is a disappointment.

My brother owns this game, so I've been playing it here and there when I can. I'm currently not too far in - actually, probably the equivalent of about 30 minutes into the game, but it's taken me about 90 minutes, as I've just been soaking in all of the poster art, scenery, dialogue and everything the environments have to offer.

I can't help but appreciate the beauty of the settings provided, and already there has been several occasions when I've just stopped playing essentially to sit back in awe, staring at the wonderful art before me. The high standard of the opening sequences and gameplay remind me very much so of the first BioShock in terms of quality.

What does everyone else think of the environments and art created? (Putting spoilers in tags of course).

Just finished this.

I look forward to playing through it again in 1999 mode and try and go for the achievement where you're not allowed to buy anything from the dollar bill machine.

BioShock 1 sucked?

Can you name anything that was good about BioShock other than, at the time, the graphics?

Did you enjoy the freedom and all those choices?
Was it the extremely well made and fluid combat system?

/sarcasm off

It would have made a better adventure game, as it's a pathetic excuse for a FPS, which is the case with the whole series tbh. In fact, the actual gameplay is so poor in these games that a graphic novel would most likely be a better choice as well.

I'm not sure why people equate "freedom" within a game to quality. I guess many are still caught up within the whole sandbox world. Fortunately, there's a larger variety of games available, of which can be very enjoyable without being overly 'open world'. So that first point is of course nonsensical.

Fortunately again, combat is only one small aspect of the game, and while it may lack in comparison to some of the top "FPS" games in recent years when it comes to pointing, shooting and cover systems - it makes up for it in creativity, combinations and imagination with regards to the variety of the plasma system. But then again, you don't really need to even use the combat system a great deal if you so wish to.

As for the positives of BioShock, well, they far outweigh any negatives of which there are few. Personally speaking, I enjoy games that provide an interestingly gripping story along with solid gameplay - both of which BioShock possessed, and combined with the excellent graphics (as you also agree), and wonderfully creative and unique artistic design of the environment of Rapture and the game's levels, there isn't a whole lot more one could really ask for from a game. Another interesting aspect was the undertones of morality woven into the fabric of the game's story, of which made you often deeply reflect should you open yourself up to the opportunity.

I am not asking for total freedom or anything, but the rails in BioShock are so rigid that it is damaging the experience. As I said, just release it as a graphic novel because the actual gameplay is poor and the player input is pointless. Just tell the damn story, which is good.

I didn't play Infinite enough to really go into details, but the bad from the previous versions were definitely still there and that's why I hated it. I am not putting myself through that agony just to hear a good story, I'll rather watch a "no commentaries let's play" or something.

Sabatasso, do you not realise that you're in the minority here? Not many out there that think Bioshock is shit.

Yeah, the game industry solely lives on the majority of people taking crap for quality, so of course I am in the minority.

Besides, who cares if I am in the minority.. am I not allowed to think differently? Are you enforcing sheep mentality?
Relax, I am not trying to win a popularity contest, I just utter my honest view on a game series that is gravely overrated.
