Demo gameplay First Impressions

I downloaded the demo last night and tbh i love it.

I hated the 2011 demo and it put me off.

However this years demo really does make me want pes2012 now. The movement is good (Still could use some improvement but better then 2011). The AI for me is a big big improvement.
The computer will actually give you a good game and will score and take a lot more chances then in 2011... I started on regular and in 2011 i usually get 2 shots max from the computer with usually neither on target and opposition goals coming from goalkeeping mistakes or penaltys. This year it seems a lot better, the opposition in one game had 8 shots with 6 being on target and scored 2 goals (I won the match 3-2 with a last minute goal).

Passing for me has improved, the control and movement and vision when passing has improved... However there still are some bits which could be improved and for me that is making long passes and trying to slot it through a good gap to set someone free.

Shooting has improved however i do not like the lack of control on the shot power.. If control on the shot power was brought back it would be almost perfect for me.

Dribbling and running has improved and i like how it is a bit more difficult to grap one player and just sprint to the by-line, cut back, pass and score. However it seems the players dont sprint to their full ability and at times there doesnt seem too much difference... Again a little tweak and this could be easily sorted

Goalkeepers for me have improved a lot. Saves are easier to make, easier to control and make the keeper come out and just generally better.

Penaltys have improved. They are a lot simpler to take and a lot simpler to try make a save.. in 2011 they were terrible and no matter what direction and technique to try save, you would move after the ball had hit the back of the net... This year it seems a lot more better

Now my big problem is the ratings... As usual they are not too great... Why the hell are Ac Milan better then United? Chicharito at 72ovr???? Thats on par with Gibson? De Gea, Lindegaard, Raf, Fab, Smalling, Ando are all underated... Berba at 80 seems underated too. No Welbeck, Cleverley, Macheda, Diouf or Pogba... A lack or Ravel Morrison... I am hoping for full teams to be a correct come the full game.

Unfortunately with this being a demo there is no way to tell whether some of the problems have been fixed... ie the player loyalty in ML.

But first impressions are good. If they just tweak around and make little improvements then it shall be fine.

i agree totally, cant wait for full game now

My two stalkers:smug:.You guys are obsessed.
Sebatosso is just obsessed, stalking my posts always trying to start an argument with me.
Kefir your obsession for me is unhealthy.

As I've already mentioned several times already, Mak, is that I don't really stalk anyone. I just comment on the most stupid things I find while browsing, it just so happens that you and Joel represent 95% of all stupidity on the forum.

Now, back to the demo.
I find it quite good in many ways, I love that PC has gotten the choice to reduce game speed as well. Last year we could only speed it up, as if that was ever necessary when the game was like watching TV in fast forward at game speed 0.

I don't want to get into specifics, but most of the whiners here can't have played the same demo I have. I had extremely low expectations to this game, and so far I am very impressed. I have played around 20 matches, and lost about 10, 3-4 draws and been winning the last 5-6 matches. I don't feel the same repetitiveness as with all former games in the genre. Each attack seem to be a new scenario, and I can't just repeat the winning recipe over and over.

Strategies seem to be more in focus, and although the strikers don't seem too eager to go for runs, they get in front of the goal for crosses at least. Two player is very nice, and the shooting and passing don't feel as godawful as it sometimes feels vs the CPU. GK's has been average for me so far, no real blunders but a general below par performance for both teams over aprox 20 games.

A few quick fixes by Konami, and this can be really interesting as a final product. I cross fingers and toes, and await the full version with anticipation.

Good work, Konami. (Not perfect, but way better than expected.)

Goalies have improved? u must be on some strong crack

I've played a couple more games today to have a play around with the off the ball movement and the goalies are just non existent. They really are hopeless.Th3 most pathetic shots go in or shots going about 2mph get parried out.

I see plenty of stupid comments on this forum, but your just so desperate to try and get a raise out of me even when i post a tongue in cheek comment you will be all over that shit like flys. You just make yourself look pathetic all the time, you crave the attention of me like a child.Don't reply to me or ever converse with me on this forum again.Good day.

Totally agree, keepers are unacceptable. They've probably been made like this out of some misguided idea of making it more entertaining.

Another thing is about zonal positioning. Konami said, and you can find this all over the web, that zonal positioning of centre backs had been improved. Well, they were down right lying through their teeth. I just gave the demo another go, and I spent most of the last few games watching my two CBs running around wherever they pleased. Hyping a game up is one thing, but blatant misleading marketing is something else. Not to mention the fact that this has been an issue going round since PES6. PES6 ffs! 6 games have past and nothing has been done about it apart from making a video about something they said they were going to do but haven't actually done.

Just tried playing again

It's really fucking bad

Why the hell would they release this? They have killed my potential purchase by doing this stupid shit.

I can't even get to halftime without turning the game off.

Lord fucking Adam is a dirty tease, like his passion but seems to skirt around important questions and loves the hype.

And pes messiah or so he's called is insulting to pes gaming;/

I am actually feeling quite optimistic about the final product.

Dribbling and ball control could be tweaked to give a better comparative difference between higher stat players and lower stat players.

Speed Merchant should be removed entirely. The card gives the player ridiculous movement with the ball; plus I do feel that higher stat players already have proper dribbling speed and control over the ball even without the card. This also gives proper scalling for the players and the dribbling stats.

I do hear that Goalkeeping will be improved because for now they are absolutely atrocious.

I think this minor tweaks would be possible before the final product. Dispossessing the player in possession in the middle of the pitch would actually be possible; and it would give a greater balance to the game. Barcelona will always play like Barcelona, and a team like Stoke would find it tough to actually play Barcelona type football.

Though the AI has been improved, it would seem that the AI plays the same attacking and defensive approach for the teams in the demo. The AI needs to be more diverse; try to make it reflect the tactics used in the gameplan.

Other than that, like Amateur suggested; simultaneous use of manual and semi-automatic off the ball movement really should be implemented. I would also like an additional means to actually defend in the game; so that it would counteract the off the ball movement. Though i doubt it, im hoping that this could be implemented in the incoming patches after the game is released.

I totally agree with you. The game is good but it could be improved in a few areas like goalkeeping and shooting. Defending is may be too hard.

If this is the predemo i guess we have a good game heading our way.

I also agee. If this game tones down the close control, fix some obvious keeper errors, make more individuality in terms of dribbling and close control and make defenders respond to tackles better, this would be the best football game I HAVE PLAYED IN YEARS.

The attacking options aren't limited anymore and it's much more varied. Not to mention the goal variation, which is incredible.

^^I agree.
Another question:
(How) can I save my control settings and (very important !) my edited lineups ???
I mean in-game ...

After playing the demo for a few days now I feel I accurately can sum up my impressions in one sentence:

Attacking is perfect, while defending is too hard/complicated compared to the ease one attacks with.

Fix the sluggish defending and we'll have a pretty darn good game at our hands.

I like the demo! it's an unfinished product - but it feels very promising!

Been playing on PC, hardest level and the least passing-assistance allowed in the settings.

These are my impressions:

Good
- AI feels much more refined
- Much smoother gameplay (thanks to the improved AI)
- Opponents don't go down as easily when you tackle, if you just nudge them when you tackle it's more likely that they momentarily just lose their balance a bit (in 2011 they would fall on their ass, Barcelona-style, if you even touched them slightly)
- No more "catch-up bug"
- Keepers are better
- ...and so are the refs

Bad/not good enough
- With the exit of the "catch-up bug" defending is arguably much more harder. PES has imho always been shifted to the attacker's advantage, but even more so now. Perhaps it's just a question of (re-)learning how to defend and getting used to a new system, but it raises an eye-brow that attacking feels so easy and smooth, and defending feels so hard.
- Keepers are still not smart enough, might be corrected for the final version though
- the game is obviously still a bit "unpolished" with a few AI-bugs

I do not know about saving in the demo because it resets itself after playing 1 match. So I don't think oyu can or at least, I haven't found a way yet.
