FIFA 13 Discussion

I was kind of undecided between PES and FIFA this year (wanted PES for the gameplay and FIFA for the better online modes and options and the fact that I know more people with the game) but I have ended up ordering FIFA, although I think I'll get PES down the line anyway. Haven't had a massive amount of fun with the demo, AI seems strange, if I press O to try and tackle attackers they seem to dance their way around me, yet if I press X and just hold off they seem to just walk into me and give me the ball tons of times no matter the difficulty.

It's been a while since my last full FIFA game (FIFA 10) so can anyone remind me if playing more manual helps with tackling or do I still basically just have to hold O and wait for my player to take the ball when he gets close? It just feels so cheap and easy.

As for the tackling, it's not like PES where you just hold x to tackle, you have to try press O at the right time to make a good tackle. I've not really got the hang of it properly yet. I'm a bit of a headless chicken when it comes to defending!

You should hardly ever use the conventional tackle button on Fifa.

It's all about correct positioning and 'jockeying' the attacker into the corner or wrong foot etc. If you make a tackle at the wrong time you can be left for dead...especially against other players.

Square you can tug, shoulder barge and fight for the ball (this often can give away freekicks)
Circle is slide tackle.

And You use L2 ( I think lol) to 'square up' to the defender to try force him in a certain direction.

I paid for the season pass last year which allowed me early access to Fifa and Madden both this year and last, also you get discount on DLC I believe. So that's £4.25 which allows me to try the full game before I buy it, worth it imo.

I've noticed no bugs, however I have noticed people online are still cunts. On Pro ranked constantly chasing the ball, scoring own goals and pretty much doing fuck all else. Clubs should be good this year though... I'm liking the look of the VP screen, where you can view what your player looks like, player stats and game stats (goals, assists etc) all from one screen. Pretty decent, I just hope multiple dressing rooms has returned.

Manager mode is better, still some silly transfers but that was never going to change. Playing in Europe in the first season is decent, One thing I thought was silly was that I had been offered the job to coach Norway (which I took ) but I had only won 3 drawn 1 and lost 1 in the league and won 1 game in the cup (against league 2 opposition) and lost in the CL against PSG. They approached me after the PSG game which was very early on in my career.

The game itself plays very well until the CPU suddenly turn into Barca. I've had to go back to world class just because it gets that annoying.

None of that really bothers me apart from the silly transfers. As I only really play against my friend where I control one team in career mode and he uses every team I play against. Or when I am at home and play the comp. I don't really have any interest in playing FIFA online. I do kinda wish that you had an option where the user could choose whether or not to let transfers over £15'000'000 go through or not. It could be an option you could turn on and off before you start career mode.

Also, in regards to the international offer, I'd only buy it after 2-4 seasons.

I think that's the one which severely slows the player dow in order to make precise movements in-between defenders.

There is close control and precise dribbling. I'm assuming you're on about close control as I'm yet to find anyone who thinks precise dribbling is anything other than a steaming pile.

Heh fair enough, I guess just since I've been with FIFA pretty much constantly since 2000 or so 3 years feels like a while.

I dunno it feels like that to me. Like I tested it the other day in the demo where if I am in front of a player and press circle like a madman my player will swipe his leg out for a tackle every time, but if I am right behind a player (who is, say in the box for example) and do that he doesn't ever tackle (and thus give away a foul) but will only do it when the ball is in closer sight. It just feels a bit cheap to me, I don't feel like there's any real timing involved, all I have to do is get close and then hold circle for a while and he'll take it when necessary as opposed to me usually needing to press it once at the right time and pinging it away. I like the way the new PES has it where you have to time when to put in the tackle while trying to hold / jockey the defender away from goal, I dunno maybe I just can't remember what it was like playing against humans in the last few FIFAs, I hope it's a little more detailed and maybe the AI just sucks. :tongue:

I think maybe it is that precise dribbling. I did think it was called pace modification or something like that in the demo.

about 6hrs more wait until I have the game in my hand.

EA Sports developers are Canadian or something like that. Plus, in the UK they prefer to release games on Fridays.

That said, my Shopto pre order has been dispatched, so hoping to be playing it tomorrow.

When did yours get dispatched? I changed my pre-order from Play to ShopTo on Friday, and got a message to say it's being processed on Saturday morning (gave me a photo of the envelope, too). Been "processing" ever since, up until about half hour ago when it changed to "Completed/Dispatched" (yet no confirmation email or text message).

I think the last collection at Sorting Offices is 18:30, so hopefully they made that and I too can play it tomorrow evening.

I didn't get the email/text either. Sometimes they are slow with that. I've sometimes received that text around 8:30pm, but got the game the next day. So fingers crossed all three of us will have ours tomorrow.

I've got the app and it popped up to say it was "packed" about 5 minutes after making my previous post.
