game is definetly harder. Im playing on six star, with default ML team, played 3 games, only scored 1 goal in two of them, though the computer doesnt score much either, seems more realistic (not my usual 7-0 rout of the six star computer from WE8LE). However, the players seem to react kinda slow to things, and it is soo much harder to dribble. Anyone have any dribbling tips?

haha, well thanks for thinking so, but no im not that good, perhaps I just play the computer too often (i really dont have any friends who play so i learn the computer quite well), thats about it. Though this six star is really damn hard, I cant really win that often, in fact im 1-2-1.

I suggest putting a tissue under you chin in case you make a mess !!!

Only joking (and I know it wasn't funny...) It seems to me that players are a little slow to actually get proper control of the ball... by which time the CPU nicks in and takes it away from you... another attack down the tube.... :(

Yeah, the first touch is often far too heavy and when you try to nick it off them it's almost always a foul. I like that there's a lot of change in possession though.

My first impressions are good...although its like starting a whole new different game-not a bad thing though,.... BTW where is everyone getting the power bar for passes or whatever?:s when I pass there isnt a power bar.!

I didn't get a power bar either, except free kicks, corners and such... maybe thats when you get it ?

Unless there is an option I didn't see ?

Anyone??

How do you do the long throw outs with the keeper? coz I dont get a power bar with that either, he jus throws it the way the keepers have always done in the PES/WE series!

I've had the game for almsot a week, just finished my first master league season, and out of interest, does anyone actually like the single player gameplay? Like, find it more fun thatn WE8:LE? I know the game is great in multiplayer, but after one full season of 15 minute games, I'm not convinced I'm up for a second (and not just cause ML is virtually identical to last year).

CPU cheats are far worse than in the previous versions. You cannot pressure them from the side, and from behind is a foul everytime. Which woulnd't be a problem, except that they can challenge from any angle, and your players will stumble and lose the ball. I play with United, and Rooney can't stand up to a single challenge, last time I checked he was a fairly hefty lad. Plus speed ratings have no bearing on the game. Your players are simply slower than the computers, regardless of who they are, and you will be beaten to loose balls/caught up on the break.

I think I've worked out how Konami have implemented the more 'random touch' defence, ie deflections through the roof. Your passes and shots actually go towards the opposing players. I've slowed down replays where a clear through ball opportunity was presented, watched as my player goes to play a ball to my open attacker, and instead plays is just to the side of the defender. And so it clips the defender and wow, isn't that realistic. I have a sneaking suspicion shots are the same. I've yet to score with a normal shot from 1 on 1 situation. Every single shot has hit the keeper (other than chips). And that is using the R2 button of course, because without it you might as well not bother shooting from within the box.

I loved WE8:LE because you scored once in a lifetime goals. You'd burn a defender look up, chip to your striker and he'd have volley it in. I haven't had a single one of those in this entire season. Not just because Konami clearly never even tested the L1 + triangle through ball which is utterly useless from within the oppositions half. Its more because the only way to score is to sit around the edge of the area, wait for an opening and crack a 30 yard shot. I've scored more goals from outside the area than in. And I was damn good at the previous versions, won master league's on 5/6*s regularly. But I can't feed my attackers because they react slower than the defence, and without a chip I can't really get them the ball anyway. Plus when they do get the ball they'll just be somehow taken off of it, no matter what the situation.

I'm happy for all of those who only play multiplayer, I agree the game is great in that respect. But it seems as though Konami forgot all of us lonely players, and have created, IMO of course, the worst single player experience of the PS2 era, possibly all of them (i've only palyed since WE6, so can't really say earlier). Add to that the $130 I paid for the game (with best shipping, import duty, handling) I kind of wish I'd waited. Here's to hoping they improve the engine for PES5!

nahh mate this is far far superior. I scored a wonderful one on one finish with morientes and he curled the ball with a sidefoot finish it was lovely to watch.

We8Le seems prehistoric now in comparson. its all too easy to run from one end of the field to the other.

As far as deflections go i think the reason it ends up back to the cpu a lot more often is because he tends to pressurise you with 2-3 men. i've had plenty of rebounds fall at my feet.

This game rocks it really does. The downward headers are special.

My conclusion is that WE9 is again the best of the series.

Was there ever any doubt? :D

Have to say the game gets better and better the more you play it, don't listen to filthy dani the attention seeker.

I am glad beachryan took the time to post all of that because he has echoed my thoughts entirely.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you all then.

Having played it for a few hours now, I can honestly say this game is not what it's hyped up to be.

Good Points:

New Shooting System (or improved...whatever)
The ball physics ... (never liked em in pes4)
Graphical bits n bobs... nothing important to gameplay though.

Bad Points:

Passing system has become awful... I actually feel like I have no control over the direction of the pass.

The game is way beyond slow now, probably just so it is bareable online (yeah good shout that)

The players first touches and quick turns (now gone btw)... has made it super slow and boring, the likelyhood of fast counter attacks Ala Arsenal is now an impossibilty... give it up it's never gonna happen.

The powers at be at Konami have decided football is a non contact sport now.. every touch is a foul more or less... this is pathetic... hope its fixed in PES5

I'm sure I could go on at length about it, but to save everyone who reads this time, i've decided to cut this short... basically I hope that there will be improvements in PES5 or i'm going to be very unhappy all year.

This is the first time in the series where I haven't wanted to stay up all night playing... a real let down to me.

I think you will like it better when you become better at it. I never had the trouble you are describing with passing, you just have to make sure your guy is not super pressured or on the wrong foot or spinning or something when you make the pass (just like in real life).

The somewhat slower gameplay and slightly less accurate passing, along with bouncier ball physics and more substantial defenders (along with a few other things I'm probably forgetting) IMO forces a more thoughtful, tactical play based on positioning and formations rather than one man dribble shows (and yes you can still dribble past people, you just have to guess moves correctly!).

Instead of rushing every player with the ball, try to acclimate yourself to the game a little more and cut off areas and lanes, and only take the ball when he tries something a little more risky. I think you might find this more rewarding and you will also probably find that even without constant pressure, if you play smart positioning it is really tough to break through your defense.

I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy or anything but I feel that the new version really favors the style I like to play (and is most fun to play IMO).

I take your points and you don't sound like a fan boy... you obviously enjoy what they have done and thats fair enough, having played again since reading your post I still can't see why it is necessary for players to take so long to control a ball... they are the worlds best afterall... they don't need 3 or 4 touches to control a slow pass to feet.

On the speed issue, im not someone who just runs headlong up and down the pitch, but theres no chance of a counter attack the attributes for speed and acceleration need not be in this game... take this example... Roberto Carlos bombing down the wing is caught up in no time by that speed merchant none other than old age pensioner Gary Speed (bad name, but true) I mean come on... you telling me that in real life Thierry Henry is not using his pace ?? Owen too etc their biggest asset is their speed... but on this game there is no point in it... I've also noticed that the opposition seem to be harder to catch up kinda uneven and frustrating IMHO.
