I personally like the game but after playing it since release the keepers still have their problems. They are better than 08 but they still parry some horrible shots (A few ended at strikers feet).

Konami still seem to have a problem distinguishing dangerous shots from easy ones. It seems like 5-10% of the time the goalies will parry a shot that they could have easily scooped up. They do that legs out / arms out dive off a middle shot and parry it front, left, or right. I've had one of these easily scoopable shots deflect off the keepers knee and in (I stepped away from the PS3 for a bit it was so bad).

I'm starting to see a trend in some of these parrys. If there's an offensive player very close to your keeper (7-12 feet away) he will, 90% of the time, parry a SLOW pace shot from the striker (Lets say striker was being pressured and trickle off a slide shot or slow diving header). I've even noticed that shots from inside the box, no matter what the pace, are parried most of the time.

Konami should make the pace of the shot the deciding factor when parrying shots. This proximity / inside the box stuff is causing the keepers to parry too much.

I agree and disagree here. I'm not entirely sure you can expect any goalkeeper to catch anything other than straight in his midriff from 7-12 feet away. Unless it's in a training situation (ie the player is going to try and play it to you). I think the problem that PES does need to address is where/how far the ball is parried away to.

I'm still waiting to play the FULL PES2009 as I'm on holiday, but as far as the demo showed, keepers were still weak to their near post and would sometimes parry it in (or parry it behind the line). They need to make the keepers stand in front of their post in this instance. It's what a real keeper would do - I've played keeper alot and I've always been told never to get beaten at your near post. I think all goalkeepers follow this. Another thing all keepers are told is play it behind rather than put it back out into the box. How many times do you see the keepers tip something around the post or over the top? Not often. I believe this would go a long way in sorting out the AI of the keepers. As I say, I cannot comment on the full game but I assume it's not changed since the demo.

The only ones that really bother me are the medium (sometimes pretty slow) shots straight at the keeper that get parried away. The keeper does that fall sideways dive and it goes off his giant mits :)P) and in front of him or the the side. This has only happened to me a few times but it's sad to see it as a possibility :(.

In this case above the keeper should just scoop it with his stomach and arms. Falling to knees if its a lower shot. He can even pat it down and then grab it like i see the goalie do sometimes with harder shots. Now if it bounces right before him I can understand some possible parrying because of the bounce.

Altogether, I bet all this is very hard to implement without some margin of error. For me 90% of the time the keeper looks realistic. When they fail it can look pretty bad. It's those game winning retarded goals that hurt the most :p.

the game is better once u get the update hold judgment till then

if u really hate it must mean u cant play it or are just cr*p at it

i would give it 8/10, but as a next gen game, it needs a new engine and animations, some really annoying sucky things have not changed eg, players missing hopefully sorted out in tommorow's long long awaited update, aswell as not being able to edit facial hair, or hair colour on defaults faces and hairstyles, but most of all hate the detail you have not gone into for some big teams, in Kon-Ami's defence they will say they are "small" but they got Napoli's Naming and Numbering all wrong, they are LICENSED FOR CHRISAKE and used as a promo in the BAL video, are you serious other diadora teams eg. Dinamo Zagreb, Standard Liege have diadora numbers, why dont Napoli, did you get lazy? I hate lazy people do it right, they don't have 1 mm of space between name and number then a huge gap for the bottom half of the back of the shirt! (are you all blind) and our away kit is not all red, its dark blue, our 3rd kit is red shirt, sky blue shorts and red socks frustrates the hell out of me when fifa can't do it right either, here's hoping the patch or next year wont have the same elementary mistakes!

get it together Konami!

Why the hell would you need a patch just to transfer a few players? Im going to spell it out to all idiots so you can do it quickly and properly in the future

MAIN SCREEN - EDIT - REGISTER PLAYER - CLUB TEAMS - GO TO PORTO OR WHOEVER - SELECT QUERESMA OR WHOEVER - SELECT INTER OR WHOEVER.

Simple. What you all bitching about?

Why is the online version so bad for PES2009? I can't believe that I took 10 minutes to find a stupid match room to play a damn game. In PES 2008, all I had to do is find a random player and just play. But not anymore. In PES 2009 you have to look for every damn match room to see if it is full or not.

Registration:

It took me over 30 minutes to figure out how to damn register on your crappy Konami site. Wtf is wrong with you? For one password you accept only letters and for another one you only accept letters and numbers? What about the KonamiID and GameID? WTF? How the fuck am I going to remember all those fucking names and passwords? You think I live and die for konami all day long?

Online Play:

Why do you make me waste my time in finding a stupid game to play? All I want to do is get online and just randomly play against another guy since the AI is too easy to beat (even in Top Player level).

Why does it keep lagging? Why can't you fix this crap?

Why do my players keep running on a direction when the other guy runs with the ball towards my goalkeeper?

Why do my players stop completely (bug) when they lose the ball? Why can't they rush to go get the ball back?

Why doesn't the AI pressure work properly? When I press square it seems that all of them are going somewhere but not towards the opponent with the ball.

Goalkeeper:

Have you noticed that it is much easier to just shoot towards the goalkeeper and score rather than trying to put it in the angle? All I have to do is run on the sides and just shoot towards the goalkeeper. I can assure you that it's a 100% goal if you do that. Pathetic.

Shooting:

Ok, maybe you wanted to make it harder or something. But can you tell me how to angle my shots? How come each time I try to angle the ball (even with R2) it either ends up out or centered to the goalkeeper?

General:

How come these players are so shit?

Ibrahimovic, C. Ronaldo, Henry, Etoò and Messi? I have easier time dribbling and surpassing everyone with Augero than with Messi. C. Ronaldo is so shit that I can't even dribble properly.

Why don't you release a patch to put the latest transferred players in the correct teams? I want to see Quaresma and Muntari in Inter.

Yes, there is something called downloading stuff from the internet and shit, but I want something official from Konami so everyone has it.

too many to list all.

The game is a lot better then last years version and the online is sorted. An option file will sort you out. The only thing that annoys me is Mark Lawersons commentary its awful. But apart from that def a better than pes than last years.

Yeah I agree the commentary is still pretty awful. One thing i do sometimes is to have the commentary in Spanish or Italian so its not as bad, i tend to play with the Italian teams more often so it makes sense but might be a bit wierd for prem teams. Saying that tho, your an Arsenal fan so it might make more sense to have the commentary as non-English!

I have to say that i agree with ARSENALRULE this is possibly the worst PES game ive ever played!!!

Ive been a PRO man for many years, ever since ISS on the SNES and i was really hoping for a vast improvement on last years atrocity, but im afraid that they havnt really taken the game to the next level.

I dont really care about licenses or the fact that my teams "Kit" is on the game for me it was always how the game plays, and i was so disappointed in last years effort that i was so damn sure this year would be better, but once again Konami have failed to deliver a decent next gen football game and i cant see them getting any better. I reckon that the PS2 version of Pro will be better than the PS3 version, like last years was....

For me FIFA is now the King of football games, 2008 was good, 2009 is very good, it has taken them about 10 years to get it right, plays smooth looks good and is actually fun to play.

That last paragraph i vowed never to say.......:fplm:

Fair enough thats your opinion, but why not explain why thats your opinion? Its one thing to say your a former PES man and you hate this one, but at least explain why. Ive been playing it on the PS2 and really enjoying it, played my first games on the PS3 yesterday and i was blown away how by how good it looks. For me the most important thing is gameplay though, and i suppose i havent played enough games to really tell yet.

i have to say i am disliking 2009 very much.i have always said to anyone who preferred fifa over pro evo that they were a disgrace to the footballing world but after playin it although it not as fun as least it does run pretty smooth.i cant belive im actually giving fifa a compliment.this is what pro evo has forced me to do.

i am defiantely a good player and in 2008 i would never lose against anybody i played simple as it that because alot of my game is reading what the other player is going to do and this has been effected so much by the 2009 release.

first of all in player settings they have taken away the manual control, the only thing close to that is unassisted but it becomes so annoying pressing L1 everytime and i dont want the computer playing a pass if i dont press L1 quick enough.so i have to use semi assisted and its just plain crap.

im playing mates on 2009 that i would beat by at least 5 goals everytime on 2008 and now im losing just because they can pick the ball up with rooney and run through 5 of my players.i read high through balls that they are going to do and make the run even before they have and then my defender just suddenly stops and then there forward runner just runs through and is one on one.i also read players runs and run completely in front of where the ball is going to go and in previous versions it would then just steal the ball off of them but now my player literally just runs sraight past them and then most of the time they are through on goal.

i lost 7-2 last to a mate who would never beat me in 2008 and he was the happiest ever but he even admitted i was stitched so many times.it was still so embarrassing.
i finshed the game with 8 men and all the sendings off where from dirty from behind ones that i was even controlling the computer done it and i also got 4 people booked like this and they prob should of been sendings off too.

and also no matter who i am if i play against england they just have superior strength against me.i mean david beckham basically walked through 4 players on 3 seperate occasions.

im losing my patience with this game.the football is not as free flowing the through balls hardly ever go where they should and the keepers and bloody awful

grrrrrrrrrr i could go on all day but im just winding myself up so il leave it at that

I agree there are some things about PES 2009 that are aggrevating. Like the cursor change. Can't believe they changed that.

I also have dominated my friends for years especially on even match ups. I still find that i win most of the time against them. Now I've had to change my style a bit by not using X pressure as much anymore. I just double pressure and shadow. When they attack i let the comp ride them and then i run thru the ball. Little things like that have helped alot. For me I now understand that the super body balance crap is gone in 2009 and you can't just muscle players off the ball as easily anymore. (The rooney running thru 5 players is more 2008 than 2009, dunno whats going on there)

In all, this should make you want to play more. If you are not the best, become the best again. Just because you are loosing now and the game doesn't match 2008 well doesn't mean it sucks. The gameplay changes slightly year to year. This year to me (OFFLINE) defending is better which makes me wonder how you defended in 2008.

pes and fifa both are veee....ryyyy unriel but...both include some good things too.

These are only games and I play them because I want to nobody forces me choise is wholly mine :D

It is true that there is a lot of things we don´t like but maybe game programmers are just now bysy doing superior patch.

I play in real life football myself and I don´t even wait that games could contain such a sense of reality. That would be really hard thing to do.. I mean carry out in games.

Some things you hate some you don´t. That´s game life :shocking:

WTF does PES2008 have to do with PES2009?

FIFA for the past 15 years has been the same crap. Do you want to start going through the similarties between every fifa game made?

If you people don't like PES2009, GTFO off this forum. Its PES Gaming. Not PES Bashing, not FIFA Is Better.com. If you all want to suck EA's nuts I suggest you all move to Vancouver where ALL their sports games are produced.

Stop bitching cuz its gonna get you people no where, go play FIFA and stay of a board that doesn't belong to that specific game.
here is a link to EA's FIFA09 forum http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/fifa-09/

You should check out the Feedback forum as well.

maybe you should read the topic for this thread little boy

I take my earlier comment back!!!!

After 1 week of playing Fifa, I started to find it very repetitive! and kept scoring in the same way (good old EA!), I just didn't find myself wanting to pick it up and play it, like i do pro evo!

Sooooo I have gone back to Pro again and to be fair, I've played the s*it out of both games and pro evo, not looks better up close (players/kits look amazing!) but also plays with more freedom of the pitch and I actually feel like anything is possible!!

Big up the Pro Evo love....I'm back on the wagon...wahoooo!

Despite it's flaws (and there are sooo many), pes 2009 IS the best footie out there.

I think we could forgive all it's flaws if they only could get the online right. In the year 2009 it is unthinkable not to have a proper online.

Fix that Seabass and we will be buying the game for the years to come.

yeah but it's not that simple is it? because when you go play online ANY recently updated teams are returned to their default settings as the game dosen't allow you to use udated teams online.

that's why people are counting on konami's update, as theyr'e hoping it will solve this problem.

I can't believe I just spent the last 2 hours reading this thread. By the way, this is my first post on the site. I like the banter and the cursing which was not allowed where I am coming from.

I bought the game on the day it came out as I have always done. I was surprised to find out from this thread I paid £10 more for it. I was equally surprised at the need for guys to compare it to FIFA. I don't own FIFA. Never did and never will! I played this latest version of FIFA at a friend's place and I sincerely dont get the fuss. The last I remember it had different controls but it now has the same controls as Pro Evo but that was just it. It remains absolutely appalling and disgraceful. If I want to see real names, kits, emblems etc; I'd go to a game or watch it on TV or check the internet for it. All I want to do is play a video game and I really didn't get the feeling I was doing that.

Back to PRO 2009, I found it quite difficult initially. I found it frustrating and annoying. The only on-line game I have played was horrible. Was down 3 nil in first 4 game play minutes. This second I had the ball, the next my opponent is in my box and it is in the back of my net. I quit it as it was unplayable. A friend says it is my internet connection and I can't argue with that. (The things you go through for your children)

However, I am loving the off-line more each day. My shots still fly high and I seem to hit the bar/upright rather too often. My goal keeper spills everything but I am getting to be the first to the rebound more. I get away with some appalling fouls but get booked or sent off for some innocuous ones. One thing sure is that it is getting better each day as I seem to be learning stuff. I never had a use for the R2/3 buttons. I always only played short passes like Arsenal use to but now I mix them with long balls. The through balls are amazing. You just have to imagine it.

My submission therefore is that this game at worst is challenging. It gets you out of your old ways; your typical ways of scoring, your holding down the x and[] button to defend, your over the top passes etc. It makes you mix stuff while thinking about it.

I am not saying it is perfect. By God it is far from it! I still occassionally throw my pad towards my 40inch and I really can't wait for this patch so I can finally download and use the OF available on this site. But at the moment I'm still loving it despite all its falls.

After playing Pro Evo/ISS for 15 years, i have now moved to Fifa for this year. I've been playing non stop for about 3-4 weeks now and am just starting to break through and really get into it. It is the deepest, most absorbing football game i've ever played, and has a beautiful learning curve. If you're any good at Pro Evo then get Fifa, stick with it for a few weeks, and be amazed!

Both games are only as good as you play them...its very hard for a pes lover to give fifa the time to get to a good level, the same works the other way...there is no way 'most' pes lovers have/would/will give it more than a week...

whats next, a black president.....!!!
