I personally like the game but after playing it since release the keepers still have their problems. They are better than 08 but they still parry some horrible shots (A few ended at strikers feet).
Konami still seem to have a problem distinguishing dangerous shots from easy ones. It seems like 5-10% of the time the goalies will parry a shot that they could have easily scooped up. They do that legs out / arms out dive off a middle shot and parry it front, left, or right. I've had one of these easily scoopable shots deflect off the keepers knee and in (I stepped away from the PS3 for a bit it was so bad).
I'm starting to see a trend in some of these parrys. If there's an offensive player very close to your keeper (7-12 feet away) he will, 90% of the time, parry a SLOW pace shot from the striker (Lets say striker was being pressured and trickle off a slide shot or slow diving header). I've even noticed that shots from inside the box, no matter what the pace, are parried most of the time.
Konami should make the pace of the shot the deciding factor when parrying shots. This proximity / inside the box stuff is causing the keepers to parry too much.
I agree and disagree here. I'm not entirely sure you can expect any goalkeeper to catch anything other than straight in his midriff from 7-12 feet away. Unless it's in a training situation (ie the player is going to try and play it to you). I think the problem that PES does need to address is where/how far the ball is parried away to.
I'm still waiting to play the FULL PES2009 as I'm on holiday, but as far as the demo showed, keepers were still weak to their near post and would sometimes parry it in (or parry it behind the line). They need to make the keepers stand in front of their post in this instance. It's what a real keeper would do - I've played keeper alot and I've always been told never to get beaten at your near post. I think all goalkeepers follow this. Another thing all keepers are told is play it behind rather than put it back out into the box. How many times do you see the keepers tip something around the post or over the top? Not often. I believe this would go a long way in sorting out the AI of the keepers. As I say, I cannot comment on the full game but I assume it's not changed since the demo.
