pes09 disaster and this is why.

1. the lag still bad when a player challenges the ball carrier especially.
2. the dribbling is ludicrously easy, watever that lad above thinks you definatly dont need tricks. this problem is easily the most annoying as it completely ruins the online play. as konami point hoares will do anything to win and giving the ball to ronnie every attack and wiggling the thumb stick gets a little tiresome. This makes the game a complete lottery. gone are the days of pes6 or even 08 in bits where the best player more or less won every time. a clear example of this is i played my friend the other day on pes09 he won 2 games to my 1 game. now on pes08 he would never beat me as my rank online was 145 (without the use of slag teams) his was 200,000. anyone now can completely crucify the soul of pes by not having to work the ball around to create opportunities, just get the ball wiggle wiggle, a little slaggy cutback BOOM the soul of pes goes down the drain.
3. the AI (especially defenders) i know its cause the ai is set on Henshaws blind school level but coupled with the ridiculous ease of beating players with a dribble this yet again ruins the class gameplay of pes of old. the whole point that pes was head and shoulders above fifa was the whole cat and mouse game of trying to cut out passes, commiting a defender, pressuring with a double team. or when attacking wether to put in a through ball or try to take on a defender. the only option now get the ball and run like hell. BORING even more boring than 1-touch pass fifa.

the only other moan is these cretins who wanted the proper licences. now it would be nice but surely that whole matter of the gameplay is far more important. you want licences and graphics go buy fifa09. you want gameplay and dont care for proper names just good honest football, get pes06 or wait for pes10.

tip for konami if you take pes6 and give it better graphics you will have a great great game on your hands. just a tip in case you're gonna experiment again like the last two titles.

pes08 = 7/10 (9/10 with no lag)
pes09 = 4/10 poor gameplay poor online trys to make it all better with some champions league balls
fifa09 = 4/10 as above minus the champions league stuff

pes 2009 seriously needs to sort out the defensive ai, it's a joke every goal; i concede is bcoz my defence is stuck on the half way line, can tactics be ammended to stop this happening!!! has seabass ever seen a match in his life, no one kicks a football they way the players do, ie side foot every time, it looks shit!!! The game play is so slow at times and players like ronaldo are underrated, crossing is pointless and there's no variety in the way goals are scored nowadays, the freedom in shooting has gone!

pes09 is trying to hard to be fifa09 slow, predictable and unresponsive.
pes08 is still great offline, the LAN tournies i enter still use 08 as without the lag its the most playable. the other night me and my mates had our weekly pes tournie the first with with pes09. after the second match we had all agreed to go back to 08' as it was like pulling teeth out. the only thing that made it a little better is we stepped up the ai to top player and the defences were not so easy to penertrate.
pes06 although wasn't ground breaking was still good old fashioned pes, the game we love. Plus played well online.

both fifa09 and pes09 arent a shade of game that pes6 and before are.

do you all remember having fun playing with yorkshire instead of leeds?!

Been playing pes and iss since since the N64 version always loved it, and with my recent PS3 purchase was looking forward to playing online for the first time.

To say I'm dissapointed is an understatement, how can it be this bad? at times its like a sabuteo game! The defence is really uncomfortable to play with, its as if the defenders are pissed and the response to a loose ball is laughable.

Then there's the lag issue, I play Resistance death matches online with 40 other guys with no problems why haven't they sorted this out yet? Does FIFA09 lag online?

Where did it all go wrong, is this an improvement to the online play with pes 2008?
I find it hard to believe it could be any worse.

This was almost enough to make me cross to the dark side and trade it in for FIFA09 but luckily I still love the game OFFLINE

i have not bought a footie game this year but did rent pes2009 and was not impressed. I have ALWAYS bought PES even from when it was iss back on the N64 and let me tell you iss2 and pes2005 were buy far the best games they have released and that seems to be falling away now.

i was so annoyed at being ripped off last year that i am now wary about the game this year. i am desperate to buy a footie game for my next gen ps3 and the news that they have not improved the game is a sad let down.

I dont see why we should pay our good hard earned money to pay konami for a game that is just not what it should be.

No one, and i dont care who you are would go out and buy a second rate game so why settle for this with pro evo?

If you want to buy a game this year, whether its for your flash new next machine or other then go out and buy pes5 or iss2 for ps2 and you wont be dissappointed.

P.S not even going to waste my time complaining about the lag with online mode and enough about connections being slow and so on, if all my other games work on my connection fine then i know its NOT MY CONNECTION!!!

That's right, but only because your fellow attackers are a bunch of fucking idiots. I mean, I slowly advance towards the opposite defence line with my attacking midfielder, and what do my two center forwards do? They don't even try to make runs through the line, they just fucking stand behind the defenders. Only thing I can do is to kick the ball to the side middlefielder and try for a cross, which frustrates me the most. This game just doesn't support playing on the ground.

the same happens everywhere; I never get support from my side back when my side middlefielder is in possession. He just stands behind even if I'm getting pressure from the opponent. What have I left to do? Dribble or make a long ball? I don't want to do either! And when I score, I get no satisfaction because it always comes half-accidentally as though the computer would've wanted me to do it the way I did.

Another thing I'm disappointed of besides the idiot AI is the gameplay. For example, the opponent is going for a through ball, and I foresee it, so I start to run to intercept it. What happens is that it takes frustratingly long time for the player to even turn to the right direction, let alone getting to full speed. Are these dudes professional football players really? I mean, in addition to this, they have poor control on the ball, too.

I'm mostly comparing to PES4, reality and my own experiences on football. I have played PES2009 for several hours now, but the only thing that seems to be better compared to PES4 is the edit mode. Yes, I also dislike the animations. I laughed my ass off when I first saw them. You get used to them, though.

EDIT: Oh, and forgot to mention. No idea of backing up in the defence! Backing up is a fucking basic action in football, and this shit can't handle it? Is Fifa worth it this year? There's no way I'm touching PES ever again. What a piece of shit.

I hate to say it, but I've gone to the dark side and exchanged for Fifa... I had a good play on PES2009.... all week last week and at the weekend, and although it is much better than 08, I just started noticing the cliches.
For example when a keeper makes save, why does he always 'pat' it out to the oncoming striker!?? always! It also runs to quickly to be realistic... the ball sounds like a cardboard box is being kicked around, the nets look awful (what happened to square nets Konami?!) and the commentary is terrible! the only good thing about it, is the kits once you get a good option file!

I hate to say it as I have ALWAYS played Pro, but Fifa is just a better game, the way the players and the ball move, the keepers actually react, just everything about it is better, even the little runs players make of the ball and the way you can finish are much better in Fifa.

yeah i still love the PES franchise. heck i still love this game. just wish it was harder, more expansive master league (1P campaign), more expansive online modes and uh... well more expansive everything cos everything seems too simple for a nextgen release.

tbh i think PES 2009 is what PES 2008 should have been. if they released PES 2009 last year, it woulda killed FIFA 2008 easily. sadly PES 2009 is facing FIFA 2009... which is simply very very good.

i think the game is wonderful but i would like to moan agin about the nets. sure some nets look like this such as the nest at the stadio olimpico but what the hell konami. It was amazing on past games when nets differed depending on the stadium, this added a feeling of realsim and individuality to stadiums. For example the nets on anfield on pes 3 are a carbon copy of what they look like in real life while they differed slightly when playing at old trafford.

Also, all you needed to do was get the right power in a shot and it would always loop over the goalkeeper - who pretty much must've had weights in his boots as he could only jumped about 2 inches off the turf.

Anyone who experiances lag its no fualt other than your own 80% of the time cos you either have a shit connection of you have the internet loaded up on your comp. For me mine is perfect and if it lags i know outright its the other guys connection.

If all the foreign players stick to there own servers ie French in French and so on, this will reduce the lag. And if Konami pay for better servers this would be solved. It pisses me of when you get french, german etc invading and lagging the english servers, stick to your own servers dickeds you dont like the english so why come into english servers PRICKS.

Bad things in the game:

- Crowd chants are a complete and utter joke. I would rather have a generic static noise than hear them repeating the same thing over and over and over again. "Argentina! Argentina! Argentina!..." (loops for five minutes)
- Referee is terrible on judging slide tackles.
- Online still awful, in every possible way.
- Master League is the same as always, had enough of it.
- The animations of regular players runningis so bad it's funny.

Still fun to play, but overall a very sloppy and unpolished piece of software. Definetly not worthy of the current generation of video games.

this to me is a good comment i still love the game even with its faults a few more bad points that i noticed

- Sometimes the noise of kicking the ball is non existent
- Passing is the worse its ever been by this i mean if you just try a simple pass with X (PS3) sometimes the computer will try and pass to the striker in a offside position
- I use to always play the game in manual mode but now i have to have it in semi because the manual mode is annoying you have to press L1 even when you pass the ball to the player yourself
- To me personally the BAL mode is a waste of time they could of revamped the ML mode by making more division or something same with the CL mode pointless again
