Make ML Last!

Hello people!!

Does anyone else like me start the Master League with a fairly crap team and build them up?? Anyway thats what I always do as I think it makes the ML much more enjoyable and challenging, especially when I also create my league with all the best teams in the game and it is a massive challenge to get a win and progress up divisions!! I started my ML with Sunderland on normal difficulty and when you have teams like Inter Milan and Roma it makes the game more rewarding when you move up a division, but obviously all the top teams are in the division up makin the game still tough!
Anyways I just wanted to see if other people do the same and if not then I strongly suggest to give it ago!!
Im gonna start all over again now seeing as my team is unbeatable on Top player, but this time Im gonna start with Top Player instead of the normal difficulty :)

Yeah, I recently started a ML with an "original team" with the default name AS Maestore or something along those lines. I chose 1 professional player by the name of Kahlenberg who plays AMF. I only wanted 1 player to start with to keep it a challenge as the rest of the team such as Macco, Valeny and the like aren't particularly talented. I always start with the difficulty on Top Player so I struggle, I prefer the realism. It is frustrating though when the CPU will cheat you out of matches it seems etc.

I've just passed the first transfer window and I've signed several players, around 6 in total I think. Most of the players I've brought in where very young rookies and therefore didn't have a club, making negotiations much easier as no fees where involved, just salary negotiations. I did splash out on striker Ben Sahar though I believe, which cost me roughly 4000pts I believe. I also brought in Andre I think he is called, who plays RB for a nice sum of 3000pts if my memory serves me right.

It's going "okay" since the market, I've picked up about 3 or 4 points in 3 games which isn't too bad. I'm still trying to find the bets system I think after bringing in several new recruits, and still tryng to work around my squad's lack of stamina and high fatigue.

Ben Sahar is a quality player, he was one of my first buys and he will be one of your best players if you play him enough! I know what you mean about the rookies to start with as you dont have much money to deal with, but I think that it makes the game even better.
Try looking at Park Chu Young or something like that...anyway he isnt too bad to start with and then sell on later.

Yeah its alot more rewarding when you bring a club up from the bottom. That being said, the default team with the fake players is TOUGH!

It's "tough" with them on Amateur! On Professional and Top Player, "tough" isn't the word for it. :shocking:

I usually do the "custom team", where it's basically the default team + one decent player. The 1000 points they give you spread terribly thin. :^/

I always play with default ML Players... Macco, Stein, Hamsun, Dodo etc..

Beter game at first that way as you can lose games... Im in 2012 at the moment and have built my squad up, but still, only finished in 5th place in the league last season.

I actually haven't done a Default one in a while but I am planning on starting one soon. I may do a custom team with 1 or 2 real players. We'll see.

yeah! starting pro evo with the default team is good, i started once only putting ronney and pique in my default team but still got trashed badly, Ronney was good to me anywayz and scored goals, Pique was the first scorer at the start of the season surprisingly, i would have never imagined him scoring.

I never add players myself, Always buy them at the end of the first season (depending on how well i played) and then gradually buy 1-2 players in the intervals during the season.

I recently bought Andy Cole (re-gen) and in 2 games he has scored 8 goals for me :D

I started with AS roma. Yes they needed to be built and it's fun starting with them. I usually buy a player after each season and then buy another in the mid of the next season.

yeh i started with a defualt team, sagitarius fc =p on top player and very hard master league mode, then changed name obv nd kit and things.. i got 2 players at the start, benzema and park ji sung.. who have helped me alot.. nd i still got benzema.. (being in 2011 season), its much more challenging and way more fun this way, even tho u get pretty rubbish players.. well a few are good, such as guiterrez and jaric.. jaric is amazing at freekicks scored atleast 20 - 30 with freekicks with him =p. yeah anyway i moved to 1st division the second season i think, and now in 2011 im top of d1 league.. won d1 cup, won european championships. and overall throughout my seasons benzemas scored 140 goals for me, which i think is pretty impressive =p.

but now ofcourse i got rid of all the defualt players and always buy young talents.. btw a tip for all of you.. (BUY BENZEMA!!!) =p.

good luck to everyone else (Y)

Waiting....
I usually start with the default players, plus two or three cheep unknown youngsters. However, I only sign players that are not currently at a team. Before I sign anyone, I decide on the teams that will be participating in the ML, then I go back to the player selection part. I play on Top Player, from the start, and have the ML difficulty set to the hardest level. I also use auto-save, so that once a match is done, I can't replay it if I lost. I tried the mode where if you quit a match, you automatically lose 3-0, but I had a couple of occasions where I needed to reset the Xbox because the game froze. So, I don't go for that any more.

The problem, though, is that once you reach the transfer window, you'll try to sign the best players. I've had a season where I was bottom just before the transfer window, then I signed about 6 players, which helped me finish 2nd in D2. Then once I was promoted, it was easier to sign players, so I improved my team even more, so much so, that I qualified for the Champions League after my first season in D1.

So, it really is up to you how difficult you make it for yourself, not the game, which I guess is a bit of a flaw in PES2008. To really test yourself, I think the best things to do are:

- To start with default players, without any other additions;

- Have all the difficulty setting at the hardest possible;

- Put yourself in the hardest possible D2 and corresponding D1 (i.e. have a lot of tough teams in D2 and some sort of "super league" in D1)

- Limit your signings to a small figure (maybe 3, including loans) per transfer window.

I can't think of anything else at the moment, but I think that would be a tough test for even the best of players. I know having a "super league" in D1 would devalue the Champions League, but to be honest, the way it's set up, don't be surprised to have a couple of teams from your own league in your group.

I much prefer using the default teams, I'm currently at the end of my 3rd season and I'm 15th in the top league. I did get screwed out of the D2 cup though!!

I've now got rid of all my original players and I have a full team of 19-22 year olds that have a developement peak of 85+.

BTW Dragonfly is that a Primal Scream tag at the bottom of your post?

Until PES2008 I started with my own made up team (based on AC Leo or someone like that) but this year, I decided just to be Liverpool because I was getting tired of the fakeness of normal ML and wanted to try with a real team. It was a bit too easy, but if I had started with a crap team, by the time I was in a position to try and buy who I want, most players who I'd be interested in would be aging by then. Next year I might do it with a original players but I dunno.

A man after my own heart! That's exactly how I play the game. As soon as I get my new copy of Pro Evo every year, I start a ML on the highest difficulty setting with Castolo and company. Most of the time I add a good AMF or a Vieri-like attacker, always a seasoned player who is to be the captain. I may add a couple of youngsters here and there, but always in keeping with a 300-point average wage limit (youngsters with good potential but not spectacular).

The first couple of weeks, I lose 70% of the matches, but I'm proud I've never had a game over yet since I play PES.

About fatigue, nothing you can do really. Have good subs for the key players and make them come in at 60-70 mins, so you can take advantage of them being fresh and the other team's defense being tired.

Fast attackers are good for that. I've got a young one with 70 shot accuracy, 73 shot power and 66 shot technique, but with his speed (85+, short player) he gets lots of chances in the dying minutes and he can score some.

Also, if one of your midfielders is running too much and is wasted by the middle of the second half, try to support him with a second player in the next game, so he doesn't have to run about so much. I know it's nothing new, but I'm yet to find a better way to make them last longer.

Undoubtedly, PES is best when your team is mediocre.

Sup Peeps!!
I have finally start my new season with an Exibition team called Hammarby (I think). Anyways they are shocking! Played 4 games so far on top player and I lost 2, drawn 1 and won 1. Of course I have placed the best teams in the game in Division 1 and in Division 2 also, so no easy trip for me!
I have never ever started with the default team or creating a team, mainly because I cant be assed. However reading through everyones posts, I might just have to try it out and see how it is!

Cheers for the replies :D

Starting with the useless yet legenary likes of Castolo, Ivarov, Minanda and Burchet is a must. Sometimes it is actually comical how shocking they truly are. This makes it even more rewarding when you do actually score though, especially a screamer which will never happen again, you're almost inclined to save the replay purely for the fact that someone like Huylens scored it.
