May I ask who programmed the offside rule

I think they need to tie him to a chair and make him watch the soccer rules video for one year straight because he obviously doesn't get it for 3 years in a row.

For instance when a player IS offside but doesn't participate that doesn't qualify as OFFSIDE

ps have you noticed that when you are standing in offside position and you try to get away from the ball the AI is taking over your player and leading them towards it..

I've noticed the linesmen in the game getting a few decisions wrong in my opinion definetely, but I honestly think that makes the game better. It would be ridiculous if it happened constantly, and by large margins but that isn't really the case, so it just tends to add to the realism.

As for the last part, the best thing to do if you're wanting to let the ball run if you're in an offside position is to take complete control player by using Super Cancel (holding LT+RT I think) and directing the player away from the ball. I often do this just to keep the play running smoothly, sometimes, it seems to confuse the defence too.

Super cancel is R1 and R2 on the PS3, so is it not RT and RB (I think they're the right names) for the 360? I also use this to avoid offside...

By the way, I once scored a goal, where I tried an early cross, and Gutierrez headed it in - replays showed he was several metres offside - when I checked, it said there was no assist to the goal - as if a defender had hit the cross rather than my winger.

Yeah, I stand corrected, I haven't played PES in weeks to be honest. That is my excuse at least.

Strange about that assist thing though, it happened to me the last time I remember playing. It wasn't a a cross or offside but a clear pass to Berbatov form my BAL character, Berbatov seemed to miscontrol it, then he shot and scored. So I'm guessing because he miscontrolled it, the computer recognised that my part of the play had ended (I'm guessing). Sucks because I love getting assists with my BAL character (me of course).

I got a goal save on my PS3, and its in my master league and Fowler is off by about 50 yards but the goal counts.

Footballs games are judged by refgerees and linesmen, and referees and linesmen are humans so MISTAKES. That makes the game better in my opinion. In yesterday's matches there were so many offsides that were guven for no reason.

Yeah offside is something that really winds me up on PES. It's like you were obviously NOT trying to pass to the guy holding hands with the opposing keeper, but the man in space on the wing and it rarely goes to him. Even when it does the linesman is too busy enjoying watching the offside striker who is now open mouth kissing the keeper and awards an offside. :realmad:

Definitely agree, Do you guys notice why football can attract the fans from all around the world??? no matter male or female and the different of age?.....Just because football is something unpredictable and unexpected...stronger team may loose to the weaker team just because of a lot of aspect such as wrong decision by referee, linesman, fortune and more......

In today real football match, almost every game the referee will get critics after the match over ...wrong decision...side to the home team...but why fifa federation still insist never use the eagle eye technology?????? to give the perfect judgement????? i don't know......

Read your first paragraph for the answer! But a player stood in the corner is not interfering and wouldn't bee given in any real game as offside. annoying this affects me a lot as I use manual pass for scoring and lobbing shots and it is always given as offside if there is a player in an advanced position but not interfering.

^Still that doesn't make the game bad in offside rule. It reality. In realty matches it happens ALOT. The linesmen have a hard job to do so mistakes are very common and there will be some mistakes in every match.

even if it makes it more realistic, who would want to win or lose by a false call? i think you would agree if i said we want a football game with out any refery mistake...

I disagree, a slight margin for error is realistic... an old FIFA had it - even decisions like the ball going out of play was occasionally called wrongly (just a little too often) and I thought it was excellent - attention to detail.

And teams lose games by wrong calls all the time... look at Hull vs Everton this weekend.

From what i can see that Ref's in pro evo (and fifa for that matter) work off the old offside rule. Before phase one and phase two were brought in.

I would find it incredible for a computer game to have judgement to determine whether or not someone was "interfering with play"

So at the moment they use the old offside rules

I know people's biggest annoyance is that they even get the old offside rules wrong, but like other people have said....that what happens in real football!

and if you could score "hand of god" goals? and if you could punch a player with out the ref seing? even the dive option is a bit too much- i want clean and flawless football.

it takes a heck of a good AI to learn the new offside law.. but it does annoy me when im standing offside 500 meters away of the action and its called offside..

^Well even in reality, I want better decisions but if games are being judged by humans, it can never be PERFECT. :( So the game is good the way it is. I saw so many goals that were given and were offside and vice versa. It sort of happens in evvery week of football matches.

You know the funny thing about people claiming that the game is trying to imitate real life is that it applies to one thing but it doesn't apply to something else meaning..an offside rule could falsely called because this happen a lot, but I dare some of you to tell me that the stupid things your AI teammates do resemble "real life"...

if you want to make a game where art imitates life..LET IT IMITATE FULLY..not partially...a keeper that dives towards a ball when it's clear it's not on side DOESN'T resemble real life..the REF's call towards tackling can't be wrong 8 out of 9 tackles..c'mon...may'be 2 miss calls but 6 per game is a bit much don't you think

i agree- i want to brake the CD every time (all of the game) the ref makes a mistake.
