ya defending since pes6 has been ass...

I was really good at defending... even if I scored one or two... I can always count on not getting scored on

Yeah but that's precisely my point,

For example, in FIFA09 -- once you mastered the right analogue dribbling tricks you could dribble past anyone, giving the game a very arcade feel,

EA Sports somewhat rectified this with FIFA10 -- but -- the problem still is,

Both FIFA09 and FIFA10 are BOOORING and excessively minimalistic in terms of defensive play; and fact of the matter is that whenever you are dribbling -- your opponent will be marking you,

So all the right analogue dribbling tricks that the attacker has -- there must be a defensive equivalent for that, the game must be fun when you have the ball and when you don't have the ball,

-------------------------------------------------
Seabass: "FIFA is probably simpler because they have the overall gameplay balance just like we used to have - but the basics of football are one-versus-one, the ball carrier versus the defender," he explains. "So if you really want to go in deep, which we have, I think you'll get a more realistic flavour of this basic football element."
-------------------------------------------------

Judging by the sound of it, it looks like that's what Konami is going for: "the ball carrier versus the defender"

Dribbling and Defending go hand-in-hand, it would make no sense to improve dribbling tricks without improving the defensive side of the game,

And when I saw that trailer, well, the dribbling tricks are a bit too over-the-top for my taste; it is very similar to FIFA... but unlike FIFA, it seems as though Konami wants to go down a more realistic route,

The key flaw in all PES games to date, is the fact that there is no difference between marking the space and marking the player: this is why scoring goals is so easy... by finally rectifying this long-standing flaw, Konami would effectively re-invent themselves; if done correctly and realistically,

-------------------------------------------------
Defence, Seabass notes, "has changed massively". Using the dash button to close down and press the player with the ball has been replaced by a three-pronged system using the X button (it's all PS3 in Japan) and directional input.
-------------------------------------------------

As far as I'm concerned, the new defensive system will determine how good PES 2011 will be; hopefully we'll see a trailer detailing the differences between the old defensive system and the new defensive system that we currently know nothing about,

I hope Konami achieves what they want, as it sounds like something different and yet loyal to the original PES Concept,

That is true. The defensive play in fifa, although it appears superior to Pes (which it is because in pes 10 and 9 the defending is not good enough and any unskilled player can get past you with ease) is overrated in fifa. The defensive play in fifa is way too easy. But as you said, there should be an anticipating move to anticipate the attacker whenever he's trying a different move or dribble. THAT WOULD MAKE THE DEFENSIVE PLAY MORE CHALLENGING BUT KEEP IT REALISTIC AT THE SAME TIME. Even though in fifa if you press L2 or R2 you defender sort of stops to block the shot. I liked that. But there should be more defensive moves like that.

Yeah, this is why people complain about the lack of improvements?

I mean, we do have a lot of people complaining about lack of improvements -- the game is called Pro EVOLUTION Soccer -- it's not that I'm bitter, it's just that I want the game to be better and more realistic, instead of unrealistic and arcade-like

I really do not see the "pessimism" that you're talking about, I really don't, I'm just commenting on very obvious, very understandable things,

ANY game can be broken?? I don't think so, a lot of video games cannot be broken,

To be honest, this is starting to feel like WENB -- you say something that is both constructive and valid, and the people read it as something full of "pessimism" and even "bitterness"

I am not a fan-boy of the game, I do not get "bitter" because of a video game, I do not defend Konami, I do not come here to judge people, etc, etc; still, I am realistic about it, and I want the game to improve because it should improve, we pay for improvements,

Agreed, like you I would like football games to be as realistic as possible.

Please don't think I'm a fanboy, because I'm so fed up and pissed off with Seabass I want PES to fail...but even I must admit that the trailer looks a lot better than PES 08/09/10

Like you I also miss the intelligent exchanging of opinions that used to happen on this site...for instance our discusseion of Ronaldo and Riquelme back in the days. These days it's as if all the veteran players dissapeared and it's only 13 year olds dishing anything and everyone.

What I mean is, for example, when we defend we don't need to worry about passing or shooting the ball, about dribbling trick combinations, etc, etc; therefore, we have all the space in the world to have a very realistic, very in-depth system for man-marking,

http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=78310

In that link you will find an in-depth explanation of what I mean, when I talk about marking the space and marking the player... The "one-versus-one" aspect of the game can also affect the tactical game in a very positive way,

The addition of the Copa Libatadores and it's teams is long over due, so that's a big positive . Hopefully there will be a noticable difference in the style of play between the South American teams and their European counterparts.

The skills all looked a bit too dramatic, too stylised for my liking, and as mention before, why choose De Rossi to showboat? Obviously he could perform those skills in real life, but how often does he? Shows a bit of a lack of an understanding of football, in my opinion.

Other than that, the visuals look excellent, but i'd have liked to have seen a bit more evidence of player individuality in the way the players moved and passed the ball, but there's still time for that to be implemented i'd imagine.

Ball physics seemed better too, and the game speed seemed more akin to FIFA, which is no bad thing, as PES 2010 and 2009 were way too fast.

This new defensive system is also intriguing...

Well, it's nice the PES 2011 trailer is using in game footage, unlike FIFA. We have a better idea of how the game will play.

shankly:shocking:, i don't know you like this mate:no:.
u usually say we atleast have to wait for a demo before we start jumping to conclusions so even if we are used to the way this company works we have to give them the benefit of the doubt don't we.

sorry mate! maybe i was too harsh there! im not usually one to start a slanging match but just makes me laugh all this player+ that EA are going on about!

fifa 10 for me was a massive disappointment with very unrealistic stats/characteristics and with this new feature they are boasting sounds to me its gona get even worse! but I will admit the proof is in the playing! so we will see!

Well...looks better than Pes2010, I'll wait for the demo though.

I like it. The animations (though not perfect) are much improved, the pace of the game looks far more considered and overall it just looks much more alive.
