For around £80 you can get this console, games retailing around £30. It is too cheap to not get.

I personally will probably get one. I was so hyped about it with the price and the way they were working Madden into it (with you replicating throws), but my interest is wavering. I don't have a lot of friends who play games big (I do have friends) so the actual multiplayer does not particularley interest me. I do play online games, so I hope that they really do completley rip off XBox Live and make a great online content.

The problem is it seems to be a bit of an add on to the Gamecube ala Eye Toy, Singstar mics and the light gun. I have all of these, but I don't play them all the time and I feel that maybe the Wii will go the same way. The first party games I can gaurentee will feel gimmicky and I won't be playing them 6 months time. So my decision whether to buy lies on third party games. I am not a massive FPS player but I do like Call of Duty and I want to get the future episodes in that series, it has been confirmed for Wii but can I really play through it on my own when I have to stand up and do all the motions? Same with Pro Evo -

- sidenote - Konami have confirmed a soccer game for Wii and if it is not Pro Evo I will be shocked. But Konami could sctre us over and have something crap like Super Sand Lego Monkey Megasoccer.

- will I be able to do a master league and then get into a vital match before losing the match due to some messed up movement. Also where will the freedom come from? If I want to crossfield and imaginatley change the style of play, will I want to do that with the Wii? I don't want to learn all the movements when I can stick to the boring but simple and effective stuff.

For the Wii to succeed it needs to achieve 4 levels:

Level 1 - What I do is represented on TV. I move right, my bat (for example) goes right. It is obviously done already but why wouldn't I just buy a good light gun? So we go to level 2.

Level 2 - Intricasies. If I am playing tennis I want to angle by racket at an angle and then get top spin. I want to be able to put curl on a ball by wipping the controller. Madden will do this I.E. a light throw gives touch on the ball, a hard throw will throw a bullet.

Level 3 - Direct tracking. I don't want to spin the controller 360 degrees in the air to sword spin, and I don't want to push the A button and move the controller down to target someone. I want the movements to directly match my hand. I move up, my sword moves up. I do some random scribble in the air, I want my sword to do a random scribble. I want natural and an extension of my arm into the virtual world, not a structured button and movement combination to do stuff. Nothing has done this so far.

Level 4 - Something else... Something to make me go WOW. Really excite me and make me want to get it.

There are my thoughts, but what about you guys. Discuss. Go.

Well it will be between $120 and $220 so I am being optimistic. But that £80 to £120 will certainly be the price region. But, notoriously Europeans are screwed over, the PS3 costs $600 in the US and Japan, read $780 (£425) for us Brits.

I think the finalised amount will be an all-round £100. At the most £130. I know I will get one as there are sure to be some great Nintendo franchise games.

Although I don't really fancy waving the controller around till the early hours or in front of mates in the background smirking & thinking "What a prick!".

Other than that, can't wait to see it in action. :)

But they'll still want to have a go too

I can't wait to pretend to be a superstar tennis player, or the greatest swordsman ever.

I'm with you there. Talk about knackering too, last thing I want to do is spend an hour waving my arm around.

I'm sure it's not as much of a work out as Track & Field was. I used to sweat playing that game :D

How old was the sock you used?

I had a mate who used the sock technique and it actually had burn marks on it from all the friction. What a joke!

I'm surprised no one has yet done a Wii pun.

I'm gonna turn my back on you

My record in the 100m was 6.72 secs. I used to leave anyone I played well back.

Here is a link to Madden 2006. Now whether you like Madden or not this is what the Wii could do (the good and the bad). I like the changing styles of throw depending on what you do, but doing it every time may get a little dull. Make of it what you want.

The flagship games will be:

Mario Galaxy
Zelda
Metroid

And I think that this system is going to crave innovation from sport titles (Madden, Athletics, Pro Evo) and I think FPSers will do well. Racing games will be a little dissapointing, there is no big racing brand (of a Project Gotham or Gran Turismo) and the control system won't do well. Maybe if they flip the thing on its side and used it as a wheel.

I will update this thread with interesting news and links, but if you see anything out there. Care to share.

The Wii controller, in the right is the standard remote and in the left is the nunchuk.

Here is Wii sports which really shows what the Wii will do.

I think you got that wrong hola name, the remote (on the right) is the motion sensitive part. The left is the analogue stick for movement in-game.

At the moment the only way I can see the remote being used in PES is for throw-ins. Or maybe dropping it to the floor and kicking it, which is probably what you will want to do after playing Wii for more than an hour at a time. ;)

Can you play games online? Don't think good games will be going on it; like GTA and PES and MGS and it will have more games like "Super Mario" which are fun at first but you get use to them.

I think that is what I said, the remote will be for movement and will come as standard. And the add on nunchuk with basic movement ability.

Wikipedia said:
The primary controller for Wii uses a one-handed, remote control-based design. The controller communicates wirelessly with the console via Bluetooth. It features an integrated accelerometer, which allows it to sense linear motion along three axes, as well as tilt. The controller also contains a tracking image sensor, which, in tandem with a sensor bar, gives the controller light gun-like pointer capabilities within 5 meters (approx. 16.5 ft.) of the screen. Up to four controllers can be connected at once and operated as far as ten meters from the console. The remote also possesses force-feedback capabilities and an internal audio speaker, and can be utilized as an NES gamepad (when turned on its side) as well as a pointing device.

Wikipedia said:
The Wii Remote can be augmented by various add-ons. Announced expansions include: a Nunchuk controller (which also has limited motion sensing capabilities) featuring an analog stick and two additional digital buttons (C and Z), a Classic Controller for playing Virtual Console and GameCube games, and a "Zapper Style" shell for First-person shooter gameplay which also includes a control stick on the top.

Fairly sure you can play online, it will automatically connect to the internet (I think through WiFi), also there will be a 'virtual console' which will allow you to download classic NES, N64, Super Nintendo and pretty much every console made by Nintendo games. This will cost around $5 a game, (I think) £2.50. There are some classic N64 games I would get. Also as PS2 game prices will crash, I would seriously consider buying Pro Evo for the PS2 and the Wii. And if a game does not work (like MGS, although MGS creator - I forget his name - says he loves the Wii and will use it well) you could always get it for PS2, XBox or a 360 if you have two next gen consoles.

Wikipedia said:
Wii will have built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity allowing communication over the Internet and with the Nintendo DS via wireless networking. Nintendo has stated that Wii will have a standard interface for Wi-Fi. An optional USB adapter will provide network connectivity via wired Ethernet as well.

Wikipedia said:
The Virtual Console service will allow users to download and play games originally designed for not only the NES, Super NES, and Nintendo 64, but also Mega Drive/Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 systems.

Wikipedia said:
At E3 2006, Nintendo announced WiiConnect24, a feature that will allow the Wii to remain connected to the Internet in standby mode. Some possible uses of WiiConnect24 that were mentioned at E3 2006 include allowing friends to visit a player's village in Animal Crossing and downloading updates for games without having to be actively using the system.
