For around £80 you can get this console, games retailing around £30. It is too cheap to not get.
I personally will probably get one. I was so hyped about it with the price and the way they were working Madden into it (with you replicating throws), but my interest is wavering. I don't have a lot of friends who play games big (I do have friends) so the actual multiplayer does not particularley interest me. I do play online games, so I hope that they really do completley rip off XBox Live and make a great online content.
The problem is it seems to be a bit of an add on to the Gamecube ala Eye Toy, Singstar mics and the light gun. I have all of these, but I don't play them all the time and I feel that maybe the Wii will go the same way. The first party games I can gaurentee will feel gimmicky and I won't be playing them 6 months time. So my decision whether to buy lies on third party games. I am not a massive FPS player but I do like Call of Duty and I want to get the future episodes in that series, it has been confirmed for Wii but can I really play through it on my own when I have to stand up and do all the motions? Same with Pro Evo -
- sidenote - Konami have confirmed a soccer game for Wii and if it is not Pro Evo I will be shocked. But Konami could sctre us over and have something crap like Super Sand Lego Monkey Megasoccer.
- will I be able to do a master league and then get into a vital match before losing the match due to some messed up movement. Also where will the freedom come from? If I want to crossfield and imaginatley change the style of play, will I want to do that with the Wii? I don't want to learn all the movements when I can stick to the boring but simple and effective stuff.
For the Wii to succeed it needs to achieve 4 levels:
Level 1 - What I do is represented on TV. I move right, my bat (for example) goes right. It is obviously done already but why wouldn't I just buy a good light gun? So we go to level 2.
Level 2 - Intricasies. If I am playing tennis I want to angle by racket at an angle and then get top spin. I want to be able to put curl on a ball by wipping the controller. Madden will do this I.E. a light throw gives touch on the ball, a hard throw will throw a bullet.
Level 3 - Direct tracking. I don't want to spin the controller 360 degrees in the air to sword spin, and I don't want to push the A button and move the controller down to target someone. I want the movements to directly match my hand. I move up, my sword moves up. I do some random scribble in the air, I want my sword to do a random scribble. I want natural and an extension of my arm into the virtual world, not a structured button and movement combination to do stuff. Nothing has done this so far.
Level 4 - Something else... Something to make me go WOW. Really excite me and make me want to get it.
There are my thoughts, but what about you guys. Discuss. Go.
