I was quite impressed by the specs of this console.
What do you reckon for launch, 600?
My money's on Jonno getting it first:hmm:

Haha. I'm the same Iron. Never got a console early . I'm too cheap to spend so much on something what's going to crash down in price in no time. Rather upgrade my PC.

I've never bought a console on the year of release, either. Too expensive and I'd rather someone else be the guinea pig, experiencing all the faults of the console.

There is no way in hell they can launch this for £600 and expect people to buy, especially in the shit economic environment we find ourselves in Makavelian

If it launches between £350/£400 and with some decent games, then I may be tempted to get it at launch. The only devices I have bought at launch recently are Nintendo ones tbh (DS Lite, Wii, 3DS, Wii U), the PS3 and 360 were years after.

If Fallout 4 is there at launch then count me in, if not then Winter 2014 is more likely.

I think £300 would be an excellent price. Wasn't that the launch price of the PS2? The PS3 launched at £425. However, the PS4 will be using cheaper parts (and bluray won't be expensive new tech).

I probably will be unlikely to buy it on as soon as it comes out. I'll probably wait for a deal with a couple of games @ £300.

I was on my way to post about that. Great news. I'd buy it immediately, if true.

Will they say anything about the price on the 20th?

I think we'll get a direct £/$ conversion, or something close to that. No way this will launch at anything under £350 if the US get it for $400. Just look at the Vita launch ($249.99/£229.99 or $299.99/$279.99 for the two SKUs)

PS4 is rumoured to not allow 2nd hand games either. Chances are if one does it then the other will too, hopefully neither will though.

That's bullshit, they only way they can get away with that is if they lower the prices of new games SIGNIFICANTLY.

They can get away with it without doing anything, developers and Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo etc don't make any money from 2nd hand games so no wonder they want to stop it.

The consumer may well think it is bullshit, but devs and publishers will lap it up because it means all the money spent on their games go to them, rather than money going to shops and ebay sellers when they sell them second hand.

The thing is though, they forget how many people are funding new game purchases by trading in old games, if this trend stops then people will buy less games new, and instead wait for bomba prices.

I don't see second hand games being completely blocked, the hardware manufacturers will not want to piss off the retailers who really can dictate what is a success and what isnt by the amount they order, the meterage they give games, consoles etc.... but I do envisage that every game (single player or multiplayer) will come with a one time use access code (much like online games do) and if you buy pre-owned you'll need to pay £10 for the privelage of booting it up on your system.

I refuse to ever buy a console that doesn't allow second hand games to be played on it. I think it's complete extortion, and I can imagine it being realistically challenged in court.

This for me is a key point.

Though it should be said, that you can usually get games a bit cheaper (still new) if you're willing to wait a few months after release date.

I never buy second hand, so it's not an issue for me. If I want a game cheaper, I'll wait for the price to go down. They do quicker nowadays.
