I find the goalies stand about a bit too much and watch the ball in to the net. I'm a big editor of the game, fine it annoying to play without proper kits, so it's frustrating that there are no striped kits, that's really annoying. With striped kits, more stadiums and better goalie AI, it would be the best football game without a doubt.

Oh yeah, that striped pitch as mentioned, that's feckin awful, gives me a headache to play on that one. I've gone through every team and made sure that's not their home ground. I think the ref AI has improved greatly, a little bit of tweaking is all that's needed.

I don't like it went you shot just wide of the post and the goalkeeper just stands still as if it wasn't a problem for them.

Having the goalkeeper to scramble across his goalline as the balls fizzes just past the post would make it a lot more realistic.

I agree with this post. But it gets worse. Sometimes the keeper watches the ball as it hits the post or even while it goes into the net. That really sucks.

Other problem, like several of you said before is that stripped pitch.

The last problem in my opinion is the online mode. Very bad network code (you can only play in good conditions with 256k upload), very few options (only 1on1) and you can't skip the replays (that really sucks).

Firstly I must say I am amazed that you can make a game this good. I had a Commodore 64 (yes Yoda and I grew up together) and have played 8762374650276035692345 games on many fine machines like AMIGA, PC, Mac and later on PS1 and PS2. Now I only play 2 games PES4 and GTA and most of the time PES4.
So when critizising PES4 it is with the deepest respect for the developers.

That said here it comes:

Dunno if there is any difference between the different platforms, but I play the game on PS2 EU.

When playing a league and you go to the next game it would be nice if you could see the other teams rank here. As it is you have to go through a couple of screens to find out which team you are going to meet next, then go through a couple of other screens to view this teams ranking in the league.

Am I the only one experiencing the COM wingers AI like this: I'll run all the way to the goal line, make a sudden move in the opposite direction and then center the ball?

Some kits can not be edited - I know most of them are nicely done and to my knowledge like their real counterparts. However as we all know it happens that teams get new kits in the real life...

The interface could be better (improvements over PES3 though) - Illogical navigation: Exampel; press square to save a League?

Commentators ... "It is their consecutive win number (no sound)".
Also their timing is amazing; after you totally dominate, they rave on about how amazing the other team is after they get a single chance at goal. And after the match "what an even game it was" and and don't get me started.

Why should some of the moves be secret? Write them all in the manual as well as how to position your player and time your strike to do headers, volleys etc.
The chip shot in the practice section is a good example of this.
If it was all printed in the manual or covered in the practice section (preferably) we could all use our time learning the moves instead of uncovering them.
It has become progressively better throughout the series though.
That a site called pesmoves.com exists says it all (a brilliant site btw)

So there goes my 50 cent

For the next Pro Evo game, I'd also like;

- a fast free-kick option; you get fouled, you already hear the whistle, but instead of waiting for the cutscene, you quickly press the pass or pass-through button to take an immediate, fast free kick, to catch everyone off-guard and quickly set up a surprise attack!

-I'd like an option to play benefit-games; Why, you might ask!? It would come with an option to quickly handpick all-star players, without having to make a whole special team for it and transfering everyone all around the place.
You choose 'benefit-match' (might even choose a benefit to play for, like sick puppies or whatever, so the commentry can mention it), you get a big list of all the big-ass players (this list you can edit and/or prepare in the main menu and safe) of which you quickly choose 11 or 15 from. (you can also preset a team ofcourse, and choose that one)

Aargh!!!

Recently i've signed Baggio, and after playing about 10 games, he's completely, completely exhausted. I've already left him out for 2 games in a row, and he's hardly got anything back.
Needless to say, this part of the game is completely pissing me off, as a couple more of my players are starting to be exhausted :(

When goalies levea a shot they think is going wide, and it narrowly misses. although they guessed right it just looks lame cause real keepers wouldnt do that. Sometimes he just watches it go in aswell.

crosses

i think that there is a flaw on crosses maybe not when u play against the com but defo when u play online
it is next to impossible to cut a cross out if they get to the by line this is no joke its a goal 9 times out of 10.
it winds me up beyond belief i played someone the other day lost 5 games on the spin 2:1 every goal that this guy scored was a cross from the by line u cant defend against it cause of course when u play online its semi auto and the com changes your man at the last second bang its to late the ball is in the back of the net
i personally thinkits a flaw and it is starting to wind me up

why r people complaining about when the ball hits the post or goes in (with hard shots)and the goalie just stands there, this happens in real life. but when it is a really soft shot and hits the post or goes just wide i c ur points, but that hardly ever happens to me.

With every version of Pro Evo, I find there's an initial period where I need to get into the game, and with 4 I've found it's taken longer for it all to click, for all the changes and the balance of the game to settle. Having said that, it is the best version yet, the only probs I've found are; the woeful commentry, worse than before, 4-0 up and Trev's still waiting for a goal; the AI has improved in some areas but worsened in others, on the odd occasion my player gets nervous of the strange white spherical object coming his way, so he goes the other; the drip feed of licences is becoming a chore, it's good to put more teams in but when it means more to edit is not so good; other than these and probably some minor things I've missed it's the canines cojones.

Do you do the condition training after every match? Might help.

Does anyone else think that the long term injuries are sometimes a bit absurd? I had Pires injured one game and he was out for 28 weeks then the next game Ljungberg was injured and out for 26, it just seemed a bit harsh to me....

I gotta start off by saying this is a crackin footy game, much more fluent football than any others I have played. But what really p**sses me off with this game, is the V_Sync..... why on earth they don't put an option in the game to toggle V_Sync on/off I'll never know. For those people with PC's who dont know about V_Sync it must seem that either they just bought a copy of the shittiest looking game ever, or their gx card has took a wobbler. Also, like a few others have allready pointed out, that stripey pitch is disgusting. After playing just a 10 minute game on that stripey pitch makes my head feel like I just ate an ice cream far too quick, and if I forget to set the V_Sync on, that pitch is 10x as bad. Putting anisotropic filtering at a high level seems to make that pitch a lot easier on the eye, but then it makes the game seem real slow, kinda sluggish.
Dont want this post to sound like a big whine tho coz all in all i do think it's a brilliant game, that just could be even more brilliant with a little thought.
Maybe Konami could release a patch that sorts the V_Sync thing and removes or upgrades that awful pitch. Has anyone actually ever really seen a football pitch that looks like that anyway? Apart from in some war torn 3rd world country.

I know what you mean. i had a player called Hughes and he got banned and then on his first game back out for 33 weeks. still the longest time i have seen anyone out for but im not complaing i have only had 3 bad injuries on the game.

I think they should be able to get injured in a tackle when its not a foul. or when they are running and pull a muscle or something like that - not too often though maybe once every 2 or 3 seasons.

Refs suck, really, they were a lot better in PES3/WE7, now violent tackles rarely get red cards, in my last 10 games no red cards were given.

the play on call is terrible

not sure if anyone posted this yet, but the play on rules in this one are horrendous, absolutly terrible. Everytime I make a through pass and get fouled the game calls the penalty instead of letting me go! I have had many break aways taken away from me because they dont let me play on. And they do let me play on when it doesnt do me any good to do so. It is definetly screwed up.

Also, the AI still needs alot of improvement, they still always fall for the same moves everytime, which is mostly when I dribble in the 18 yard box to the end line, then pull back, which they seem not to be able to follow at all, which was the same case in WE7 and WE7I. Then I just dribble right to the front of the goal and score. Since I only have the computer to play cause none of my friends play it, I learn how to beat them to well, which is why I am not going to buy WE8 on Xbox without online play, because the computer is to boring and predictable.

almost everything Yi-Long wrote was spot-on for my own complaints on the game.

i get annoyed every time i see anything that never would happen in a real game, that's how picky i am. but some things are MUCH more annoying than others.

couldn't they add some more animations, for christ's sake. i know they've increased since pes3, but after playing some games i get so utterly sick of seeing the animations when a player get's a yellow card, or when a player is injured (i don't believe every player injures his ancle or whatever they are complaining about, and especially not the same ancle everytime), or many other times. if they could just have like ten animations for every major event or something, so you wouldn't have to look at the same 2-3 every time. it would even be cool to be able to decide how your player should act after recieving a red card by holding down a specific button when the animation starts or something, should he be furious and just kick the ref or should he walk away like a good boy? and if he for example kicked the ref he could be suspended for a while or something.

all in all, make the game more and more like real football, with the choices and consequences that are available in reality. but hopefully, konami already knows this and is working towards it as we speak. they have come a good bit after all, making the best football games ever.

the thing i dislike is when your player contest for the ball and when you eventually win it they get fouled and no card and then they sleep, or protest 2 the ref while the ball is trudgling at an alarming speed of 0.1km/ph away from them...another thing is the elaborate rolls they do after a tackle/dive makes you think is the pitch on a slant?.....none than those two the game is wicked.....i lve how the linesman interfere when a offside goal is scored and how players have a lil push n shove(sometimes) if a blatant foul was commited (Viera and Van Nistlerooy...how realistic)

[EDIT]all in favour 2 change the stripey pitch w/ the Bernabau say I[/EDIT]

guys i know what your thinking and you must think im crazy for thinking that we6 is better then we8, but to me it is soo much better and these are my reasons.

1. Game speed- Obviosuly WE8 is better then FIFA, but compared to WE6, WE8 seems so much more faster gameplay and just in general more FIFA'ish feel to the game. The guys would just blast the ball into perfect spots unlike WE6 which just seemed so much more real ( they could still do beautiful shots in WE6 though).

2. Passing in the air/crossing - In WE6 the passes in the air felt so much better and realistic, sometimes they would pass it a bit more diagnol sometimes a little less harder etc most of the times went where u wtryin to make it go, but in WE8 its almost always either stright up or down, or straight left or right, not always though. And even if they do do a smi decent long pass, they are usesless because 80 percent of the times they are more accurate towards the other teams player then your player.

3. Goalies - Well they are great it seems, apart from the fact that half the times they just stand there and let the ball fly by, even if it just skims the post too, or sometimes they even get scored on and they dont even move. They dont turn there head in the "surprised I have no chance" type of thing like i see them do sometimes in WE6 and 8, but its as if the goalie is just standing there daydreaming its *bleep*ed.

4. Teammate AI and opponent AI- It seems they have no common sence they will just let balls go right beside them and not even care its so un WE'ish. Like when passing a ball they just stand there and wait for it, in WE6 I could make my guy run towards it so much better then in WE8.

5. Turn Around Long Pass- If you have your back towards the opponents goal and you wanna do a long pass, instead of the player turning around and then passing, he either passes it in the complete opposite direction (towards your goalie), or he'll send it in some random direction most of the time out of bounds, even if you are aiming in the right direction.

6. Pressure checking- Well in WE6 when pressing the Pressure checking button the guy would try to obviously check the other player, but in WE8 unless ur 1 inch away from the guy he wont even do anything, he wont even make the pressure checking animation, I constantly run towards a guy either head on or at an angle or whatever and while running at him pressing the Pressure Check button and unless the player is dead on with him, he will just keep on running past him even if you are constantly hitting the pressure check button, its like they dont see the guy with the ball. If he happens to be really close while you push the buttn he might try to take it, but if hes not an inch away then he'll just keep running lookin for someone to pressure check, like they are completely oblivious.

7. Excitment - Yes they got the Serie A full License but for some reason when me and all my friends played WE6 we would go crazy on the free kicks, fouls, goals, saves, everything, just like in a real life game, but in WE8 its soooo much more less intense, it feels like it doesnt mean as much when something really good or bad happeens your just not in it like u are with WE6.

8. General feel - Ok WE6 most of the times just in general what you do in real soccer you do in WE6 also, you didnt need to get used to the way the game felt to be able to score or do whatever it was just whatever worked in real life worked in the game. Sometimes pass, sometiems rush the ball, sometimes hold back, sometimes using alot of chip passes, sometimes lots of through balls, using a misture of passong types etc etc and you can do all this stuff like real soccer. But in WE8 just the general feeling of the game is that in general to score most goals you just have to send through balls past the defence and score. Thats what I used to do to score in FIFA, so un WE'ish. I mean in WE6 I could do that too but I could just build the play up so many different ways, without even having to adjust the strategy, positioning etc etc. I mean you could shoot the ball from far and try to make nice plays for fun but its rarely neccesary in WE8. In WE6 though, sometimes you would have to shoot from far and do different stuff cause you just couldnt get the through balls through the defence, sometimes u could sometimes u couldnt, so much more realistic. In WE8 it feels like I just gotta rpeat the same stuff over and over again to score. It just feels all more human like, more realistc in WE6.

Now one thing that I think maybe the problem is that supposedly the N.American copy, which I am playing is the same like feel physics stuff as the European version (PES4) not the real true WE8. And i heard some people saying that PES4 was infact sped up compared to original WE8 and some stuff about the shot and long pass accuracy probelms also, which were not present in the Original WE8. So maybe thats the problem, I also wanted to point out that I never have played WE7, Just WI6 and WE8 for Xbox.

Thank you guys I just needed to get this off my chest after expecting the best soccer game ever, which almost everyone says it is and which I felt the first time I played WE6 couple years ago. And by the way I tried putting that auto help stuff on max, middle and manual didnt really help, although it did feel a little better on manual. Honestly It just seems like Konami tried adding a bit of FIFI'ish style play maybe to make more N. American crowd like the game i dunno, there are cool things like hand balls and goals called off due to offsides and stuff like that but lets face it those things dont change the actual feel for the game. I have played about 6 or 7 games at 15 minutes each so its not like i need to get used to this one, I havent played WE6 since like a year ago and didnt play it a whole lot, I didnt own it. I never had to get used to WE6 to play, i just thought like i did in real soccer and it worked. Most things just responded and acted better according to my controller inputs in WE6.
Thanx again!

p.s. Officially here in N.America it is called World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 Internation
