regarding my question of no editing;

it is a shame that EA can constantly negotiate exclusive licenses. I know it all comes down to money but if I was a chairman for a club, and EA shows up at the door and says we want an exclusive license so we can bury our competition to would tell them to FO. But then I am sure EA opens up the case of money and my eyes would glisten.

EA has held onto an exclusive license on the NFL for several years now. At the time they negotiated it they were the best NFL game so it didn't matter but I would really like someone else to take a stab at it now. Look at the MLB and NBA games where other companies leave EA in the dust. Last year a company did come out with a NFL-style game but had no real teams so I didn't even look at it. I am star struck when it comes to playing professional level sports games. But it doesn't excuse poor game play. I am not buying Madden this year because of the crappy menu options they pulled on us last year where teams could not be edited (too long of an explanation for here)....giving way to the idea that as games continue to remove things (e.g., PES league mode) it has a great effect on purchasing.

The NFL games from 2K Sports were way better than any Madden, EA forced them to disappear by buying the NFL rights.

I have hear that from many people, I just remember a year I had a 2k NFL game and wide open receivers would drop the ball repeatedly. First and last year I bought a 2k NFL. I think that was the year they slapped the ESPN name on it. The old NFL gameday series was also good. that is old ps1 days

back to PES, the video that was posted by someone in the other thread, forget who did that now, but I have had opened and playing now with occasional viewing, looks quite good.

http://www.twitch.tv/spookyyoutube/b/452985196

the principal thing I am looking for is that headers from crosses and defensive clears do not automatically go to their player as if on a string. I have seen some instance of that but not horrible.

The answer is simple. Pes doesn't need any licencing. Pes should be made into a fully editable game. A player editor, stadium editor, kit editor. There are so many talented kit makers, stadium board makers etc in the pes communities supplying pes players with the tools to make their games as realistic as possible. Maybe konami should concentrate on perfecting the gameplay and let the fans do the designing of their own personal game.

Well now we know what the story is with the game. How much of a surprise would it have been to see everything missing from the game on release day? Reminds me of last year with league mode.

Which one you getting ths year Mike? FIFA or PES?

I will certainly buy FIFA on day one, because I am a sucker for the licenses and clubs. But if 5 things are not fixed in fifa (I posted in the fifa 14 forum) then I see myself also buying PES before November if people start raving about it. Then, if I do buy PES, bitching about option files routinely.

Even if Konami hasn't been able to keep up it's traditions of good gameplay and an in-depth edit mode in PES in recent years, it's good to see they've still kept up the tradition of taking good features out of the game each year

No rain?! Christ, that's one of the simple, compulsory things that you expect in a football game, no matter how good the gameplay is.

Especially with night games in England, when it rains more often than not!

No. What is expected from a football game is a REALISTIC based match against the AI where tactics and the right combination of players wins the match. And believe it or not, neither pes nor fifa has achieved this in the recent years. So why bother with weather effects when the core gameplay is still crap?

Out of curiosity, how many people would still buy and play PES if nothing was able to be edited such as player names and kits but the game play was great? and this would be your sole football game you buy?

Thats why I got into PES in the first place. I love edit mode- I love changing player appearances, adding in leagues all that stuff. The OP is being harsh- no rain and the removal of La Liga stadiums isn't worth shitting the bed. We are getting two brand new licensed leagues and a new competition in the AFC champions league on top of a brand new game engine! With added stats, improved AI I mean really no rain? Who cares?

I tend to agree with you on one point.....Konami has not produced a game with anything near realistic or even acceptable game play in over 7 years. But i disagree that we should not focus on stuff like rain and stadium edits.

For me, Konami/Seabass has been successful in these areas:-

Failing to take the initiative to secure meaningful licenses
Shown very little attempt to improve a once thriving title
Inability or neglect to compete with direct competition (EA)
Driving loyal fans away from its poor game design ...This new fox engine has been out since 2009 and was revealed in 2011

and last of all......something that i see you suggesting here Shaun...
lowering the expectations of its fans.

In my opinion, Konami continues to charge full price for its games and its direct competitor has already included these missing items it its game.

We already now know that PES 2014 will not be released on the new next gen consoles .....now they are removing stuff from the game?

When will they be able to create a decent game ....if not now ...then when...?

peace

This is true, however the games have to get the basics right first and then be able to add to it because in my eyes, both pes and fifa missed the good solid and fun gameplay experience. And no effects or add ons made me want to go back and play them again. :)

So I ask only for good gameplay at this point. And when this is reached, then I'll expect the other stuff. But at least, it would be a good start.
