This is true, however the games have to get the basics right first and then be able to add to it because in my eyes, both pes and fifa missed the good solid and fun gameplay experience. And no effects or add ons made me want to go back and play them again. :)

So I ask only for good gameplay at this point. And when this is reached, then I'll expect the other stuff. But at least, it would be a good start.

I agree with you 100% and I understand where you are coming from.

They have to get the basics right....such as basic animations and basic gameplay.

However, how long can we expect them to arrive at this point?

I don't want to start a back and forth argument about Fifa ...but they seem to have some of the basics needed to advance the game. The game is far from perfect but outside of licenses, game is at least ok.

Konami has had many many many chances and year after year they just cant seem to get at least the basic right.

Its 2013-2014 and i think that most of us are expecting something more complete than just basic gameplay. They have had a lot of experience with this title.

Saying that......i do see a difference in the gameplay they currently are displaying. I do hope it at least satisfies the basic requirements need to pull of a comeback this year. I am however disappointed that the title will not be moving the next gen consoles.

WTF did Seabass take the timeoff for if not to give us a more complete game with a new engine that should have given them a bigger "digital canvas" to work on?

peace

I think it is the other way around.PES has always had strong fundamentals whereas FIFA lets you run 5 feet in any direction just by swining your right analog stick. PES has dynamic range of difference distinguishing one player from another.Example De Rossi and vidal might play nearly the same in FIFA but they feel completely different in PES. same goes for players of lesser skills. The problem with PES is the ping pong passing, which can be nearly eradicated with manual controls....

I think that the real problem is the licenses and that PES always tries to strengthen its fundamentals (like they've done with animations and berry center physics this year) whereas FIFA simply sells on the strength of its Brand,Marketing and Brand.

It is like Comparing COD (FIFA) vs Battlefield (PES) by just keeping in mind that guns like M416 would be named differently and might look bit different because C.O.D won't let Battlefield have its naming rights. (and yes Battlefield do pay for gun naming rights)

Pes had good fundamentals but failed to show it with pes 2008 - pes 2013. The best pes was 2011 in recent years for me because it had he best balance between attack and defence.

So in the end, both pes and fifa appeared bad in the eyes of a football fan because fifa has a good shine but no real deep substance so it looks like a real match, but at a closer glance it doesn't play like a team based game of football, while Pes has good fundamentals and at it's core had better balance than fifa, but lacked the technology to show it and thus when you look at it, it does not appear like a game of football (not player faces though ;) ) And let's face it, pes looked outdated when showing off the gameplay.

Pes 14 can finally be the new breath of fresh air. But it needs to be done right because animations alone will not save the game. It will however make it look better ofcourse.

The early code demo is very promising, plays really well with a few niggles, got a feeling their gonna nail the gameplay this year as I can't stop playing the demo even at this early stage

Again....agreed 100%.

Neither game really looks like a replica of the true game of football.

Pes seems to be trailing and i believe (i might be wrong) that their culture and global location affects their drive. They seem to be a very passive bunch. Although i am upset that EA has grabbed all the licenses...I like their go get it attitude.

Konami seems not to care about forward progress....they are more interested in just making a football game.

To me ..PES14 kinda looks like a early version of Fifa.

Being that they could not even make the new gen consoles this year....i doubt they are planning to put a lot into this release. As discussed maybe next year we will see something else.

Out of curiosity, how many people would still buy and play PES if nothing was able to be edited such as player names and kits but the game play was great? and this would be your sole football game you buy?

If the gameplay was great then I'm sure many would.
People played ISS and Pro Evo for years like this.
PES6 On the 360 had no edit mode but it was a great game. Was like PES 6.5.

Ofcourse it's a bad thing. But as I said. Will it really matter in the long run?

I'm really disappointed the stadium editor is gone and that there are so few stadiums in the new game. I spent a lot of time working with patches and imports and making my own edits when I was getting into PES 2013 (PC version, on a Mac) My Become A Legend guy plays in Spain so every team has their own stadium, and I've also got every team in my Master League, including D2, at their own place.

I won't be buying PES 2014, partly because spending money on games isn't a priority in my life, but also largely because I haven't actually played 2013 for months, and when I do get back into it I'll want to make the most of all the edits etc.

However, to answer IronCity and back up Mak, I would happily drop all the edits and nice visual features in preference of a game that may well be bland looking and unlicensed but is the most thoroughly satisfying, entertaining & realistic football game of all time.

In the long run, though, as Shaun asks, I would really fear for PES if this was to happen. As sad as it may be, a harsh reality is that many thousands of potential customers buy FIFA instead of PES simply because of the licenses - real names & kits etc. If PES loses out even more, they will have less sales. You would hope this would make Konami work harder to improve the game and therefore increase sales, but I fear that it could have the opposite effect, in the long run, and force Konami to focus their energies and investments on other more profitable ventures.

Whats all the bloody drama about then

Really not fussed about it. As I said in another thread: since when has PES been about anything but game play?

it goes back in time a week or so- the fuss is not the loss per se, but konami spending two years with this product while omitting features whether it be copyright (stadium editor), unfinished features (rain), or some complete lack of logical reasoning (league mode).

so not really surprising - it's konami :D it`s the company who think`s magic boots adds to realism while playing master league

after playing the demo -- does everyone really think the gameplay is back? I feel it slows down way to much and button lags is way too frustrating and kills the gameflow... i hope that's just the demo

Already preordered the game £23 on amazon(for pc), bit gutted about no stadium editing but i'll live, as long as the gameplay is good.
