Skyrim

Who or what is everyones character? I couldn't think of a name, so just called him Eddard (after The Song of Ice and Fire series character). Real fagging out here, so apologies to whoever takes offence ;)

I've never really "role played" in a game before, but i Just can't help giving my character morals, ethics et al in this.

Eddard is a veteran Imperial Soldier, well versed in the long bow His life has been full of combat, but during a vicious attack by a sabrecat on a caravan he was escorting he was blinded in the right eye, fortunately the sabrecat came out much worse. However, his inability to use the bow as well as his comrades led to an end of his military career.

The last few years Eddard has found himself living rough with barely enough food or money to keep going in abandoned lodgings around Skyrim, sneaking around and picking locks to keep himself away from the elements. The cold has led him to grow his hair out long and sport a dishevelled beard. However, he wears his scar and blinded eye with pride.

Eddard lives by the same moral code he has always done. He never steals, never kills innocents and will always help those in need even when they didn't help him when he needed it. He deplores magic wielders and has vowed never to use it, but has found that since his first encounter with a Dragon, this may be a decision he really has no choice over.

Some guy just posted a picture of him tailing a giant and a few mammoths. Not a big herd, i've seen MUCH bigger (like 5 mammoths and three giants)

I've found that they (the giants) are not usually agressive towards you as long as you stay a few metres away, they usually stare at you and roar when you get too close. If you do something stupid like steal their stuff or walk right up to them or attack their mammoths they'll get hostile towards you. I've had some just randomnly attack me while strolling around.

Yesterday during the night I happened upon two imperial soldiers about to execute a stormcloak, I was given the option to help him, leave him or arm him. I deliberated for a moment only to see the imperials point in the distance at a group of five or six skeleton warriors charging at us. I armed the storm cloak and we all fought side by side against the force, losing an imperial in the melee. Happy in our victory I turned to the recently freed stromcloak to congratulate him just in time to see him being stabbed in the back by the Imperial soldier. Complete Bastard!!

I saved and reloaded to y last save a few minutes before and this time it didn't happen (loaded up my save and carried on from the back stabbing)! Loving the randomness of this game!

The scale of this is just awesome. I've really dived into it (level 20-something already!) and have some interesting tales already in the bank. Killed two dragons solo (if you are more mele, get into the trees and force the bugger to land. Trees give cover ;)), although one was just a blood dragon.

Trolls are easy if you know the trick, it's some of the really deep dwellers that cause the problems, oh, and don't get me on dwarven automatons... oh, yes :smug:

You could literally spend hours mining, milling or just chopping wood, never needing to leave a little village, never mind the side quests in the cities.

This takes Oblivion, adds some of the good stuff from Fallout and makes one of the greatest RPG-lites we are likely to see for some time.

My fave moment so far had to be in the lead up to my first solo dragon battle. I was facing three bandits. I killed one, one ran away and the third was picked up by the dragon and never seen again. I was stood by a large rock with the bandit in striking distance when he was taken. I saw the shadow of the beast first, heard the cry then wham. Bandit gone!

I'm gonna set boardwalk to download and go invest some more hours into this! Wanna score some good money, so going back to all the bases i've wiped out collecting all armour and weaponary and selling them so I can buy my house!

If you furnish your house, just be wary of the bookcases. You can actually store your books properly.... though mine vanished. I can't see them in the menu and the bookcase say's I can only store 9... it started at 18.

Gutted as I had a couple of rare ones.

I've been picking up every book as I go along, some give you missions when you read them can't believe the depth and scale of this thing!

I need more bookshelves, already filled up the 36 I can store in White Run, and got around 10 more in my inventory. Want them all on display and not just hidden in a chest!

edit - Just found out there are over 300 books in total, fun times collecting and reading ahead!

First encounter with a random dragon, I was walking around the outskirts of White Run when I happened to see a thief skulking round in some nice elvish armour that I wanted. I sneaked up behind him, ready to finish him when all of a sudden he drew his blade. It was then I heard the roar and saw the shadow.

The bastard just wouldn't land. It kept attacking with ice breath and I held my distance peppering it with arrows. After taking about half its life it finally landed and I waded in pummeling it with my new sword. With a flap of its wings it lifted off and grabbed the thief and flew to a ridiculous height and threw him. A few arrows later and it was down on the ground again, and I managed to finish it with teh help of a summoned familiar.

I took my spoils and was disappointed I'd lost out on the nice armour. About 15 minutes later I stumbled across the thief lying face down in a stream some distance away.

I love it.

I like the fact they have brought 'companions' from the Fallout games. Even my new pet dog...!

If you want the location to find him, PM me so as not to spoil it for others.

I hardly used the companions in New Vegas as some, like Boone, just ruined the game as they were that damn good. Preferred the "Lone Wanderer" style of play in NV but always used dogmeat in Fallout 3 , but hated the fact he'd occasionally just run off and attack whatever the hell he wanted. It led to his untimely death at the hands of a Super Mutant Behemoth!!

I have used and abused Lydia though to be a pack mule for all the loot from Dustmans Cairn while I was raising funds for a house!

Might PM you at a later date if I don't stumble upon him myself.

Really looking forward to Fallout 4 using this improved graphics engine now!!

Boone was deadly, wasn't he. Made aimless wandering damn safe though.

Just had my first fight with Meeko by my side. He just seriously fucked up two well armed skeletons! Can only assume it's a bone thing!

Didn't see what else he got up to as I was tied up trying to maim 3-4 mages. Still, he came back promptly, which is more than I can say for the horses.

Anyone else keep losing horses? I've bought two and both fuck off at the first sign of trouble (although the first may have become dragon fodder... not sure). Don't re-appear for a while, then bugger off again. At 1000 a throw it's not the end of the world, but it is a damn inconvenience at times.

I Haven’t actually invested in a horse just yet, I have yet to venture anywhere further than just west of Fort Greymoor and have stayed really within the locality of White Run.

I may invest in one when I start venturing further afield but I like just walking through the world as it is just awe inspiring.

I've just reached Winterhold(i think thats what it's called) Uni. Took forever to get there, through blizzards and being attacked by all sorts (including 2 dragons lol). I hate it when Dragons don't land for ages, it gets really hard to hide when there's no cover.

Got attacked by four witches at the same time, shit was terrifying especially when decapitating one while the others are targeting me with fireballs. Then out of the corner of my eye I see a sabrecat lunging at one of them, he died heroically distracting the bints so I could finish them off!

5 minutes later I see some weird ice things flying around, turns out they are wisps and I follow them to a women who I think is an NPC, all of a sudden they're freezing me in place and i'm getting raped, yup, not going near them again!!

Original?

I'm strongly considering this game, I used to love RPGs but never really got into Elder Scrolls, do you guys have it on the PC or console? Sounds like people are enjoying it, I am concerned that Jonno's ability to take down a dragon on his own (pretty much), I'd hope that dragons were nigh on certain death.
