Sleeping Dogs (PS3/360/PC)

Ok, as some of you may have seen I posted a video and gif in the games you're waiting for thread HERE, however a video has just been released and I think it fully warrants a thread of its own.

Sleeping Dogs is the spiritual successor to the True Crime series of games. Activision cancelled development due to funding issues but Square Enix came to the rescue and bought the rights to the game but not the True Crime name. They will be publishing teh game with the original team developing.

Set in Hong Kong as an under cover cop working for the triads, this will be an open woprld sandbox title with a mesh of GTA/Saints Row gameplay and Batman/Yakuza fighting mechanics and some slow mo bullet time thrown in for good measure.

Made very much in the style of a R* infomercial video for one of their games, it really goes into great detail about what to expect from this game come its release on the 17th August 2012

Looks like it could be a great summer purchase, and considering there are usually no games to buy in the Summer, I anticipate this could be a hit. No mulitplayer unfortunately...but i'm more than happy with a single player game.

and for good measure

Would so buy this if i still had my xbox.

The combat system reminds me so much of the first True Crime which was awesome. I remember having long fights with random people just because of the awesomeness of the combat system.

Looks like a slightly less bonkers version of Saints Row 3 (which I'm yet to play, but is still on my radar). I'm glad that there is no multiplayer. Not every game needs multiplayer if the single player is strong enough.

Not to sure about the karaoke though (though it's a good tune).

Is the game going to be worth £35/£40 if it has no multiplayer?

It would be awesome if they did split screen multiplayer at least but no game seems to do that anymore.. No wonder kids are getting anti social these days, if you want to play multiplayer everything is online! Back in my day..

(makes me feel old...I'm only 21)

Yes.

Loads of great single player games are worth £35/40. It's just that single player only games are so rare these days. Skyrim is a prime example. As long as the single player adventure is long enough and/or good enough, then it warrants the full price.

My comments regarding multiplayer were only made as I know we could've had a laugh diving off cars with each other (PES sessions).

However, it will in no way affect my desire to buy this, multiplayer is not necessary in every gamme imo.

If Hong Kong action/crime films have taught us anything, it's that you can go undercover and still murder as many people as you like. I'm glad to see this tradition is being upheld in game form.

Violence looks absolutely top-notch. Could be special.

I don't think there's a movie. You tend to see a few of these live action trailers these days - I think ACIII had one too.
