New rule which I really shouldn't have to state:
IF WE HAVE A GK OR FREE KICK DEEP IN OUR OWN HALF, ONLY I MAY CALL FOR IT, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE UP THE FIELD IS IN ACRES OF SPACE
As I noted on the chat, you're the obvious target for any crosses/long balls. For free kicks that are straight on goal but too far for a direct hit, you should try standing wide of the goal and for a knock down rather than central to head at goal. I or whoever is playing it in will have a much better chance of hitting you with a diagonal than a straight ball.
Playing it out of the back is NEVER a good idea. If I don't win the header, then at least it's not a disaster. If the GK decides to ignore me and throw it/pass it short anyway, then that's just bad luck (and incredibly EA cuntness).
And in general, a couple of people on the team tend to call for the ball far too much. It's hindering us tremendously.
Calling is rather prevalent. There are of course times for it and everyone will make a bad call now and again. I think deciding when to call is most difficult at the back, if no-one calls the CPU is likely to walk it into their attacker. Here either make sure you've got an immediate option and the CPU is facing in your general direction or rely on a wide player to call for it. There's rarely a need to call for the ball in attack unless it's a simple one down the line from the full back, other than that it's likely to beyond the CPU.
Also, I think we need a dedicated, fast winger. Is anyone willing to make their guy small and fast as a whippet with fine crossing ability? We really lack pace in the wide areas and indeed width in general.
I think this is more a sign of us having not played with wingers of late. We have pace in the team, Phats, CDR, Joel and Mak have already pretty much maximised their pace. Acceleration/Sprint Speed are not linearly related to height/weight any more. Anywhere between 85-90 is plenty fast enough to break down the wing and get the ball in. We just need to play with wingers if you want pace down the flanks. We have it.
Have you thought of going to 6'3-4"? I know you shrunk last year. You're strength would remain the same at 4" and drop by 1 at 3" with every other physical stat increasing by between 5-15 depending on your weight. Extremes are (rightly) not optimal in 14 as they were in 12/13.
