Also, I think we need a dedicated, fast winger. Is anyone willing to make their guy small and fast as a whippet with fine crossing ability? We really lack pace in the wide areas and indeed width in general.

I said I'm back tonight :folarm:

Admittedly my VP is 5'9 but that's because I feel he's fast enough - I don't like a VP who is so short he has fuck all strength as I like to sometimes turn defenders and it means body contact.

You weren't on last night so take my criticism with a pinch of salt. Also the formation we're playing right now doesn't really offer much width.

New rule which I really shouldn't have to state:

IF WE HAVE A GK OR FREE KICK DEEP IN OUR OWN HALF, ONLY I MAY CALL FOR IT, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE UP THE FIELD IS IN ACRES OF SPACE

As I noted on the chat, you're the obvious target for any crosses/long balls. For free kicks that are straight on goal but too far for a direct hit, you should try standing wide of the goal and for a knock down rather than central to head at goal. I or whoever is playing it in will have a much better chance of hitting you with a diagonal than a straight ball.

Playing it out of the back is NEVER a good idea. If I don't win the header, then at least it's not a disaster. If the GK decides to ignore me and throw it/pass it short anyway, then that's just bad luck (and incredibly EA cuntness).

And in general, a couple of people on the team tend to call for the ball far too much. It's hindering us tremendously.

Calling is rather prevalent. There are of course times for it and everyone will make a bad call now and again. I think deciding when to call is most difficult at the back, if no-one calls the CPU is likely to walk it into their attacker. Here either make sure you've got an immediate option and the CPU is facing in your general direction or rely on a wide player to call for it. There's rarely a need to call for the ball in attack unless it's a simple one down the line from the full back, other than that it's likely to beyond the CPU.

Also, I think we need a dedicated, fast winger. Is anyone willing to make their guy small and fast as a whippet with fine crossing ability? We really lack pace in the wide areas and indeed width in general.

I think this is more a sign of us having not played with wingers of late. We have pace in the team, Phats, CDR, Joel and Mak have already pretty much maximised their pace. Acceleration/Sprint Speed are not linearly related to height/weight any more. Anywhere between 85-90 is plenty fast enough to break down the wing and get the ball in. We just need to play with wingers if you want pace down the flanks. We have it.

Have you thought of going to 6'3-4"? I know you shrunk last year. You're strength would remain the same at 4" and drop by 1 at 3" with every other physical stat increasing by between 5-15 depending on your weight. Extremes are (rightly) not optimal in 14 as they were in 12/13.

I agree that the diamond formation doesn't really allow us much width. I was playing RCM last night and I kept getting caught in two minds between playing as a wide midfielder and playing as a central midfielder.

Also, if we're gonna play 3-5-2, which is a formation I actually quite like, I think it's important that the two wing-backs/wingers are on their strong side, in order to maximise width.

Our experiences with a back three aren't great overall. We've played 3-1-4-2 before as you may remember from FIFA 13 but you can get ripped apart with AI defenders (especially if the CDM goes walkabout).

That's true, I guess. Had quite a lot of success with 3-5-2 at my other club, but that was with me playing as ANY. I guess CPU defenders on their own can't be trusted.

We played our best football and got our only league win using the diamond formation. Yesterday (FRI), the last two games we played was using the diamond formation and we won them comfortably. I don't agree that it doesn't suit us.

Helps when you've got full-backs who push up far higher than they should ;)

The fact we had less personnel in those games probably also had something to do with it Joel, let's be realistic.

That would mean it's a number problem rather than a formation problem though. Which still puts to bed claims that the diamond formation doesn't suit us.

It's always been a numbers problem. We usually suffer our worst runs of form when we have 7 or more on. It's so easy for it to become crowded with more than one person basically occupying the same position as someone else.

I was being crowded on right wing by Bammers in two games last night. If I stop with the ball waiting for an overlap that's fine but to find myself as the furthest back on that side is silly. One of the matches was so awful I ended it with 70% stamina - I couldn't run anywhere for all the crowding.

To be honest though, I've not really enjoyed Clubs for a couple of weeks now.

I go through periods like that. It's good to take a break from it every now and then. But to be honest, I don't play that much these days, perhaps a couple of times a week. I have too many shows to watch!
