Just got knocked out of the champions league in the knockout round for the third season in a row. Can't help but feel a complete sense of rip off.

Computer scores in extra time and goes through on away goal rule.

My defenders all become totally useless and unresponsive as computer just glides through them, gets a one on one with my goalie and scores with ease.

I know that feeling. In pes 2016 I started ml couple of times and always ended up switching this game of. AI is meant to fuck you. No matter what you do if you dont play like crazy you will lose more competitive games. They score when they want and you cant do anything, doesnt matter what difficulty you play on. I started enjoying the game when I used yaku gameplay. Those who are using Pes Galaxy can use it or you can just download it. This game is broken so the community has to work on it. Anyway since then I lost some games, AI itself isnt more dangerous in attack, you just dont have this feeling of being cheated that takes away all the joy from playing. Dont get me wrong there still is alot of bullshit you have to put up with, like referees for example.

I used to have the same problem guys and in superstar difficulty it was so hard to get my defense playing properly that I was getting crazy. I started playing with 4 CBs in a 4-2-3-1 tactic, with 2 DMF's.

I even put "few" players in attack, so that I have more players staying in defense. It worked for now, but in all seriousness you need a striker that you feel comfortable with: fast, with good ball control, because you will depend on him a lot.

Although it's hard to defend I think it is easy to attack as well, no matter the difficulty. Long passes for example are such an easy way to score that I sometimes feel I'm cheating by using that. Also, with the opponents who play short pass, they make so many silly mistakes you can easily intercept the ball, for example, during goal kicks or long range free kicks. Finally other stupid easy way to score is on the kickoff. The opponent players seem paralyzed during kick-offs.

Hope I could help.

End of season 6. Here's the team so far. Same setup as before, most important players outside the spoilers, the rest inside. Previous post here, end of season 3. This said, improvements happened over the course of 3 seasons.

What a development this guy is having. Incredible reflexes, positioning. Can't complain.

Took him just one year to get a place in the starting lineup. Stats speak for themselves, that Jump is obscene.

Alessandro Nesta would be proud. Best defender I've ever used in any football game. It almost feels magnetic, the ball just teleports from the opposition to his feet.

Absurd. Best RB in the game by a huge margin. Even if you find another player that compares in Speed or Stamina or whatever, no other is this complete. Beyond my expectations.

I just might sell him. In decline for 2 years but is still improving. I don't need the money but if the one just below is to develop...

The problem is that Catching stat. Absolute shit. I mean it. If I head the ball to him with a defender he will punch it away. Atrocious to the limit. But he's fast as balls and that helps. And has the Long Throw skill. And is a legend in the club. I just need to give him time.

Lourenço's replacement. I still use The Portuguese Puyol in the NT, but I needed younger blood in the team. Brutal in aerial duels. Pretty good on the ground. I'm expecting great things.

Flávio Ferreira's replacement. I like Flávio a lot, but those glitches/bugs/mistakes were way too frequent. Fonte also has Weighted Pass, so I'm completely fine with the change.

Stamina's much better, crossing still on point, still a tad too slow. Seems to develop well into his late 20s.

I've always liked this man. Had a terrific left foot with accurate crosses, until he broke it and disappeared from the radar. His PES counterpart seems to rely on the same strengths. Another one for the future.

First player I've seen with under 45 in Ball Winning, and it's a defender. Fucking perfect. Needs way, way more Lofted Passing, Swerve and Stamina.

The captain, as usual, the engine that powers the entire team. That dribbling is creepily low, not that I make use of it that often. Speed is perfect for what I ask from him.

Hasn't improved that much. Speed is dropping already, but technical abilities are still improving. Currently being trained on Passing. Alongside Neves my most influential player.

Luís Gustavo's replacement. Perfect all rounder. Surprisingly strong in physical duels. Really liking him so far.

Finally seems to be taking off. Can run the full 90 mins and still have the Stamina bar filled up in the next game. Hardly loses any tackles. Went from lvl 3 Protégé to lvl 1 Leader.

The joy one gets from this guy is immeasurable. Silky smooth playing style. Training set on Physical as he is my #8.

Bernardo Silva, brazilian version. 100000 times better than Diogo Jota.

What a beast. Even better than Coutinho. Best striker I've ever used. If only he had a more powerful shot...

The guy take covers the holes from injuries or bad form.

A more technical approach to the wings. Excellent shooting ability, pace is more than enough, and unreal heading ability. I mean, really above average.

Still developing, although slower than before. Like a freight train, he can't be stopped.

Great can opener, when a game is heading to FT and is still tied, this guy is expected to solve the problem. Amazingly powerful shot on that left foot.

Flourished this last season. Like Drogba, he's a man moutain that won't back down. Great for tight defences where running fast is not an option, but breaching in is.

Just so he can start developing earlier.
This is the squad list

And the game plan

What tactics do you use and who are your defenders? I have a kinda "weak" team and I just got easily to the final of UCL, after beating PSV in the semis (Juve on my way).

I use a diamond formation, 4 defenders and a defensive midfielder. I did start with a more defensive formation but seemed to let in as many goals as my current formation.

.......................Neuer
Walker...Kompany...Varane...Alaba
.......................Pogba
De Bruyne............................Bale
.......................Messi
............Ronaldo.......Neymar

Defensively I am pretty solid but for some strange reason the computer seems to always find the goal/s it needs in the champions league, last season Real Madrid needed 2 late goals to go through and they got them.

This season I was leading Benfica 2-1 and they scored in the 90th minute in the second leg to go through on away goals.

I did pretty well in the group stage, just a shame it all went to crap in the first knockout stage.

Some fantastic player development there! Enjoyed looking at that I have to say.

Didn’t know Cancelo could develop so highly, I’ve owned him a few times but thought he was a mid 80s OR kind of player, 91 OR is awesome…Nesta would indeed be proud.

Neves is looking decent, although Konami have really under valued his stats. Hopefully in the next game he’ll be taken more seriously!?

I think you’ve won the Quaresma regen battle :D 93 OR at 19yrs old is mind-blowing…your first 100+ OR player right there my friend.

I see you’ve got Danny as a utility player, mine however is not..He’s close to your Quaresma in terms of development and numbers are starting to turn red..!!

Looks like you’ve sold/lost a lot of your GMs, I cannot part with mine just yet

I didn't remember so had to check. Apparently yes but not by much. 5 Points in Attacking Prowess, 3 in Dribbling, decreased Ball control by 2, 3 up in Finishing and Jump and decreased Stamina by 3. Answering you underlying question, he surely won't be much different from this in your game if you decide to get him early.

Looks like you’ve sold/lost a lot of your GMs, I cannot part with mine just yet

I still have Djené, Alex Telles, Coade, Matic, Fábregas and Biabiany, but yeah, I'm not as focused on that as during the previous seasons.

His default rating is 71 - that's one hell of an increase you've got!

And he hardly played in the first 2 seasons. After the edits his rating went to 72 if I'm not mistaken.

In the last 3 seasons he played 115 games, scoring 197 goals and assisting 30.

I bet you host fake press conferences and interviews too, you big nerd.

No no, I'm a bigger nerd for spreadsheets than PES. I just like organized stuff, order, not chaos. But if I played FM sure as hell I'd do all that stuff.

All my uni related files are organized, and it helps when looking out for something specific. While I'm not necessarily a person that can't withstand messy things, I prefer to have them arranged properly.

This said, here it is. http://i.imgur.com/28TWx2g.jpg

I'm very much inclined to get rid of that Passes/Dribbles part, useless stuff (because the rest is soooooo useful).

Try a more defensive tactic, like a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-2-2-2, with two ball winning DMFs. I have some medium defense and I managed to win the UCL 2-0 to Juventus :p

Here is my captain Djourou picking up the cup :D

I found the Champions easier than the portuguese cup and league. xD

PES 2016 ML matches against rivals must be one of the least enjoyable experiences in the whole of gaming. It's nigh on impossible to come away from one without an injury.

In the match I've just played, I lost 4-1, my first defeat of the season. 3 of the goals were low shots under the keeper (2 of which involved their midget striker out-muscling Boateng), and one was from a dubious free kick (do CPU players EVER miss a free kick from just outside the box???). My players played like they had been on the piss the night before, their players played like they were on performance enhancing drugs. And of course, my main LB comes away with a 13 week injury.
Who the fuck at Konami thought any of this rival match shit was acceptable?

EDIT: Just had another rivals match:

Me - 16 shots, 8 on target, 3 goals
Them - 4 shots, 4 on target, 4 goals

Ok. I just got back to my ML save file for Liverpool. Continuing on from the opening of the season 6 transfer window.

First things first. The game feels less scripted? My first match was against Chelsea (charity shield) who are rivals and usually they play intense cheating football and my players get injured. But I whacked them 5-0? Maybe something was done with the last update. I haven't played PES since the latest update.

Anyway, on to the team news. Big changes are on foot. I've just sold off C.Ronaldo age 35 to Sunderland for big big big money. Seems like Konami didn't change the transfers to make it more realistic. It was a reluctant sale. The guy is an absolute beast at corners. Very easy to score headed goals. His speed, dribbling and technique has declined quite a bit but he is still overall rated at 90 at age 35 with red stats for header and jump.

But his wages are too expensive and he will be blocking the development of my promising young wingers Jaoquin and M.Jose. Ødegaard is also back from loan. And Lazar Markovic has finally been promoted off the bench into the starting lineup for this season. Despite limited game time the guy is pushin 89 OVR at age 26.

It's the season for the younglings back from loan to have a go.

Pirlo, Buffon and Torres have been loaned out to teams where they are in the starting line up. Good times.

How much did you get for him if you don't mind me asking? It's a shame you'll miss his juicy 'Legend' training boost and extra revenue but as you say his wages are very high so its probably worth it.

Enjoy developing your regens, for me one of the best parts of the game :D

I sold C.Ronaldo for $89M at the end of season 5.

One season ago, I had an offer for $122M but turned it down.

I really had to sell Cristiano because he is up for a contract renewal soon and is currently sitting on $19M annual wages. And he will definitely ask for more. The legend boosting effect is serious. But I think I reaped enough benefits from it. It got my Divock Origi to a 92 Rating. And none of my youngsters are a red category player. They are all green midfield side midfielders. Except for F.Torres. But I have loaned him out.

The Meastroing effect is really powerful. Not only does it help development, it also stops decline. I maestroed the crap out of Ronaldo using grand maestros Mertens and Giroud and when I bought him 3 seasons ago he was at 90 and he now leaves the club at 90 at age 35. Messi is now 89 at age 32/33.

Reluctant sale. But it's time to give the younglings a chance.

I really enjoy this aspect of PES...having to decide when it is time to let go and rejuvenate the team. My Defence is getting a bit older now too. All approaching 27/28.

Wow! Nice offers there, I would have accepted that as well. The largest I've seen so far for one of my players is 75mill for Morata rated 96 OR.

Yes I also like this aspect of the game. I've got 8 Grand Masters and 2 Maestros (both Lv.3) My regen players are really developing at some speed because of this.

Quick question regarding team roles - has anyone ever seen any level 2 or 3 (eg level 3 Maestro) players at AI clubs? I've only ever seen level 1s.
