If you hate the game then this probably isn't for you as you'd hate it anyway, but there's a huge debate going on over on the other forums at the moment, Evo-Web and Wenb. I like to get a cross section of opinion on anything PES.

The crux of the argument is this -

1) Many complained that the game is now more static, that AI seems to have been dumbed down, the CPU generally looks to park the bus and games are a little bland
2) Shooting, everything now seems to go down the middle and shot control is almost impossible.

Many people have said that the game now resembles nothing like the demos, which many people enjoyed.....well here is the interesting bit, you may already know it but if you don't bear with me.

People said that when the game first came out they enjoyed it a lot more had more control etc etc, well it seems like that the latest KONAMi game patch (15mb) to bulk up the goalies and make them better has had a number of effects.

1) That the 'Active AI' has been toned right down in the latest patch, players do not move about like the demos and the game is mor static and less exciting. Almost every team parks the bus and relies on counters
2) Keepers are better?!?! Well are they? Many believe that the new patch has simply changed the games AI so that the keeper is protected more, also the shooting system in the new patch has been designed so that again the rubbish keepers are protected by having almost every shot go centrally.

So just to be clear, this is what people are saying -

**The game pre patch was far more enjoyable because of the active AI and the way the game ebbed and flowed back and forth. The keepers were just adequate to okay pre patch, but instead of KONAMI fixing the keepers they have simply introduced a patch to shield the keepers problems by having most shots go centrally and tone down the active AI so that they are further protected**

Many people have experimented with this, including me, and I don't think it is placebo!

**A few people immediately deleted the KONAMI patch and bang, immediately saw a difference. Players running here and there and generally being more active, more exciting games, ironically better and more realistic defending from the player but better build up and creativity from the CPU. Shots more responsive and harder, people being able to dribble again and take people on etc etc. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SHOTS GOING WHERE YOU WANT THEM!!**

It seems that the out of the box game is full of the active ai and is more or less the same as demo 2 (if people liked that). The new patch kind of tightens everything up and therefore the games become more stagnant. It may only be the illusion that keepers are better because they have made defences deep and fked around with the shooting mechanics.

If this is the case, then it's SHAME ON KONAMI, if they did actually mean to do it!

For the PS3 I think it's just a case of deleting the 15mb game patch, for the Xbox I think it's deleting the cache or something, check it out on evo-web or wenb, and for PC I think it's a case of using the original pes2012.exe file, but again I may be mistaken, check it out.

I URGE ALL OF YOU DISILLUSIONED WITH THE GAME to at least try it. See for yourself and report your findings.

It seems this is the quandry right now -

1) Pre patch - the game is fluid and active AI is prevalent everywhere. The CPU builds it's attacks with cleverer play. Shooting goes where you want it, and your build up play feels freer and more open. Goalies are poor to adequate.

2) Post patch - the game is more rigid and more contained, not so much active AI. CPU defences generally sit deeper, most shots go centrally to the keeper (thus the illusion that keepers are BETTER). CPU looks to charge through the middle more and relies less on moves to get round the defence.

Note that because you have reverted to game 1.00, then playing online is not a possibility, everybody is looking into this because this may be something big that KONAMI needs to look into ASAP.

Try it out guys and report!

Pre-patch, post-patch stuff...

Has anyone else who is back enjoying pre-patch noticed this...

Pre-patch you can actually apply pressure up the field and tackling once again becomes better/more realistic. This is on the Top Player level. Post patch the only way to successfully defend (which became a little boring) was to drop, drop, drop and camp in your box, to press the opposition high up the pitch was nothing short of a deadly sin. Now there seems to be a trade off again, I think this is why the game may seem more frantic all of a sudden, because you can apply pressure differently.

I find I can defend the way I want to now, whether it be a higher risk high pressure game getting in the opponents faces with the possibility of making a tackle and getting the ball back or defend deep.

Post patch on the higher levels this just wasn't possible. I felt that even altering tactics and sliders the game was pre-programmed to drop and defend. Something that sometimes I didn't want to do, again could this be an issue with KONAMI shielding both my keeper and the CPU's?

So are you trying to say that we should delete the 1.01 patch, and see if the 1.00 version allows us to shoot where we want etc. ?

I'm on PS3.... how do you delete the patch? Is it just saved as an extra file in game files?

For the 360 you just clear the cache in the dashboard, PS3 im not sure i think there is a folder you delete from the HDD

Exactly! Many people have tried it, I suggest you read up on it first on evo web and wenb to get an impression of people's findings before you do it yourself.

@Ali - On the PS3 the file is in game data I think, it's the file that is around 15mb! This brings the version back down to 1.00, but I think you keep all your OF stuff like kits etc.

My advice guys, can't stress enough, read about it first, then if you want to give the game a go pre patch (ie v1.00).

I will give it a go, and hopefully I will not lose the OF data.

I think you will cause it is from a different version: 1.01 but if you lose it make sure you save just the edit data file on an usb stick so you always can get back to normal.

As I'm at work right now like to know if it works going back to 1.00 with the same option file!

Ok I just tested this...

Didn't notice any big differences.. I deleted the patch and started playing a friendly match on Prof. Atletico Madrid versus Udinese. I decided to be a mid-club because they will not have ridiculous good shooting stats. I won with 2-0, had 7 shots on goal. 4 of them (!) were straight at the goalkeeper, 1 shot far fromt he goal and the other 2 shots were goals.

So still 4 shots went straight at the keeper, and I did aim them in corners. 1 Goal was a header from a corner, and the other goal was a 1 on 1 which I could place..

After that I started fooling around in free training, was Atletico again. Tried some 1 on 1's and still the shooting was shit!

After that I downloaded the patch from Marketplace again, started playing a friendly match and won 2-1. Like same story qua shots etc. etc.

Maybe I can't judge with only 2 played games..but in my eyes it doesn't make any difference wether the patch is installed or nto. But I scrolled a bit on other forums and some people were truly convinced that it was the patch that caused all the shooting shit.

Or it's not the patch, or it is the patch, or it is completely random.

Anyway, Konami should fix it..

thanks! Enough reason for me not to even try it! As I'm pretty sure my option file won't be working with the new older version of the game. Won't try it unless it's quite a substansial improvement!

Cheers.... but if I delete it, will the game not force me to download it again as soon as I boot it up?

No if you do decide to delete the patch you will indeed be asked to download it once you boot up the game. But just press O instead of X to cancel the patch installation and it would go straight to the game.

I can't use jenkey's patch with 1.00 version which makes the game much better, I also doubt I can use some patches I did now with the 1.00. Also the keepers in 1.00 are a joke, they did shield them with this 1.01 as u say but they also are somewhat better.

So I don't think il be switching unless someone clearly confirms that the game is much better on 1.00.

What a load of crap... I can shoot where I want with 1.01... Quit complaining and learn how to play PES instead maybe? Go on training and you will see how easy it is to aim your shots!

Threads like this are useless! Won my last 18 games online scoring over 2 or 3 goals each time! The shooting is fine ha!

That's fantastic, I'm very pleased about your online record. The thread therefore doesn't apply to you if you're happy post patch. All I urge anyone to do is read across the three forums, WENB, Evo Web and Pesfan and see how many people have noticed a difference. The thread was made just to make people aware that there may be another way the game plays offline apart from the one that's on offer now. For me I got a little sick of almost every CPU team parking the bus and having my strikers static all the time, that's why I've gone pre patch. To me anyway, there is a big difference. For one I can actually pressure higher up the pitch instead of playing that same retreat retreat defensive style that is the only way to defend post patch. I can tackle more, the CPU is more human in mistakes etc. For me it's just freer, more alive, and gives me more ways to craft goals instead of the constant 25 yarders I had to do because they had a shield of nine in the penalty area.
