There's futureproofing and then theres the PS3. One step too far. I never thought I would say it but I think Sony could be about to lose it all when it was easier to win.

My 360's on its way.

Why? Because you had to wait an extra year for newer technology?

reminds me of the simpsons episode where the japs are paying out "unsophisticated american technology"....and poorly designed cars....im sorry back on topic now

Too right.

I'd much rather buy an electronics product that was manufactured in Japan than an electronics product manufactured in America. ;)

No not at all. I'll be getting a 360 just 2 months before a PS3 is out so its nothing really to do with the waiting. Newer technology doesn't mean a better machine either.

The price is ridiculous to begin with. Then there's Sony's idea of you "buying the license, not the game" meaning that games will forever be at the full RRP and no 2nd hand sales. I get suspicious of any company backing a single type of technology too. If blue-ray dies on its arse, who knows what that might mean for the console. Sony could just drop support totally.

You just have to think about the purpose of a console. It's to play on and have fun. I can do that for a lot cheaper on a 360 which has now found its feet and is getting into its stride. If the PS3 turns out to be amazing and it lasts as long as the 10 years Sony plans it will (stupid idea given that a PS2 seems OLD after just 5 years), then I can buy one in 5yrs for dirt cheap and a massive back-catalogue of games to choose from as well.

At the moment and probably for the next year at least, I would say the 360 is a wiser purchase for all it has to offer. Plus, next-gen Pro Evo in October. (ok, maybe not true next gen but my PS2 is dying and I need my PES fix.)

You'll be able to get games 2nd hand for PS3. The licencing was just an idea touted by Sony and some people went on to claim it as being confirmation.

I think the reason he says the PS3 has lost already becuase of there so called future proofing. Unlike the 360 and current gen platforms you can play a game on anyone's system. I.E an xbox game on anyone's xbox. However if the Sony has it's way with the ps3, one of there future proofing thingy me bobs is going to have a game being locked to one PS3. Say if I bought PES when it comes out on he PS3 and put it in my system, it's locked for that system and can not play on another PS3. Thus elimanating all game rentals at blockbusters and the like. And there goes all those damn used game purchases. Oh and you can't trade in any of it because they are not worth anything after you hve played them. In my opinion thats how Sony loses this upcoming generation if they do this. There going to kill the industry if this happens.

[edit] while i was writing this the two responses up top were posted and I didn't know. Sorry.

Why restrict one copy of a game to one system?

In my opinion, Sony would never do this because they realise that making a controversial move like that will only strengthen Microsoft's position in the gaming market and possibly even make them the market leader. :shocking:

Disgruntled PS3 users who can't play their games on other people's systems will only go out and buy an Xbox 360 instead.

Sony aren't stupid. Believe me, they'll give in to consumer needs because they want to remain and strengthen their position as the market leader.

You don't become the market leader in any industry by not considering consumer needs. That's basic marketing.

Anyway, why are we discussing this?

The only rumours I've heard about the PS3 is that all PS3 games around the world will be region-free. Which means that we can all play WE on our PAL PS3 without chipping or modding the console. :)

I heard that a new law was being developed whereby companies such as Sony and Microsoft can't force consumers to purchase an NTSC copy of the same game if they already own the PAL version of the game (and vice versa) thus allowing the playabilty of all NTSC and PAL games on all consoles around the world. :dribble:

yeah the ps3 is region free but wouldn't you rather have the excitment of waiting that few extra months than get it straight away

That'll be a 'no' from everyone then. ;)

I don't think it would be just a no. It would be a hell no, no f'n way, cold day in hell before i would want to wait a few extra months before I actually wanted to wait to play a game like PES. I live in the states and for the last two years I have imported PES from Europe within the week it comes out.

Just remember that whole Xbox 360 crashing fiasco. There are still people bitching about how the 360 has too many technical nitches. If PS3 is SO MUCH more powerful that the 360, then that means more components and heaps more potential for problems. I highly doubt you'll be seeing problem free gaming from the PS3 immediately upon release.

Your ignorance makes people laugh I'm sure of it...
that's all I' can say on a post like this...
I think you better move your "damn, the PS3 is the better hardware over the 360 I OWN" -frustrations to a 360- or xbox specific forum.

Err...Microsoft have only released one console prior to the Xbox 360. :erm:

Sony has released two consoles prior to the PS3. I'd say that makes them the more experienced company in the gaming market, wouldn't you?

Sony is currently dominating the gaming market. If you can't admit that then you're one severely deluded individual. :shocking: I mean, this is a company who overtook the experienced Nintendo and Sega and made them look like amateurs.

In any case, you're comparing two companies who specialise in two entirely different industries.

Sony are well known for their electronic products such as TVs, VCRs, Hi-Fis, Walkmans, Vaio PCs (and laptops), Game consoles etc, etc. Add the fact that 95% of their products are manufactured in Japan.

Whereas Microsoft is well known for their Computer Software and a couple of Game consoles - that's about it. And I seriously doubt that Microsoft's products are manufactured in Japan.

Also, let's not forget that Japan is the Holy Grail for manufacturing standards. ;) Ask any business analyst where the best products are manufactured and the answer would almost always be Japan.

Germany is the only other country that compares to Japan when it comes to manufacturing standards. But, that's irrelevant to this topic.

Judging by your ill-informed reply, you must obviously be an Xbox fanboy who realises that his Xbox 360 will be technologically outdated just a year after its release.

how has this thread turned into another microsoft v sony contest?

I think it started off with someone making a silly comment like "the Xbox 360 version of PES is going to be better graphically than the PS3 version" or some crap like that.
