True, but the AI, particularly goalkeeper and defending AI was never this bad in the PS2 prime versions, no way, I never had a problem which defenders standing still and passes literally going through them. Its annoying, this AI is not acceptable for next gen imo, I cant accept AI like this when I know full well it was better in these aspects many years ago. It needs correcting cos I am not going through this again next year. Not being funny, but the player switching is embarrassing, Ive been in situations where I have a player running towards the box so you have 2 defenders stilling completely still whilst a striker runs through the middle towards goal and the CPU will NOT let me switch to the last defenders to stop this guy until he gets really really close to the box, then the semi auto switching allows me to me to move my final 2 defenders and by then the CPU has had a free run at goal, it was NEVER like this on PS2, its fucked, you just cannot dispute it.
In about 20 matches for me I haven't experienced what you mentioned yet, although that occurred all too frequently in Pes 2010. Hoping I won't see shit like that but if I do I'll be prepared for it as I'm so used to that shit happening in Pes 2010 that it's almost normal for me lol. So far I find the AI challenging while being fair and definitely much more fun to play against as now they actually attack and score goals, compared to, on occasions, the utterly boring AI in last year's game.
1 thing I can definitely agree on is the completely fucked up player switching and it's almost unbelievable how they haven't fixed it yet. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old PS2 system that used various bars. Instead some fucktard at Konami thought it would be a bright idea to just limit it to 3 poor options.
Still, Pes 2011 does do some things better then the PS2 games. I dunno if this would be in the AI department but in Pes 3, it was incredibly easy to land successful chipped through balls and chipping the keeper with the low R1 chip required almost no effort. In Pes 4, during a league season the AI controlled top teams like Inter, AC Milan, and Real Madrid just won't lose! They would constantly rack up 100+ points per season and their players would always top the league with 35-40 league goals. It was a complete joke looking at the standings and how the goal scoring charts were littered with 30 goal scorers. I remember one time I needed 104 points to win the league! Ridiculous. In Pes 5 the AI couldn't score even if you paved the way for them. It was normal to finish a season with only 5 league goals conceded. At times that made them really boring to play against. I know we're talking about PS2 but in Pes 2010 on PS3, Messi in the hands of AI was completely useless. Despite being the 2nd player in the game, he would only finish the season with around 5-8 goals, being outscored by just about everyone on his team. Makes no fuckin sense to me when in reality he did 40+ and he was doing 20-30 when he was younger.
None of that shit happens in Pes 2011. I know many are not direct gameplay flaws but shit like the Pes 4 and Pes 5 flaws I mentioned really take away from the single player enjoyment and realism, much more so then the occasional cursor switch, keeper, or defender fuck up. League standings look true to life now with the strongest teams needing about 90 points to win the league. Goalscoring leader is realistically around the 20-30 goal mark. Messi can finally score in the hands of AI! He is topping the goalscoring and assists charts right now. So you see we have gone a long way with AI in some departments. Some things can definitely use improvement but imo there's nothing game breaking and this is by far the best single player experience I've enjoyed since Pes 3.
