@ fenerlover check your formation - for example if you're playing 4-3-3 and your trying to play a "classic no.10" player out of that position then the card will be greyed as it is not suited for your current team strategy.

I've completed this game and have to agree with IGN - hands down the best superhero game full stop. Even outside of that genre it's impressive. Yes it's a little easy, even at the highest difficulty setting, but the challenge modes and riddler side-missions all add to the longevity of the title...
