Dunno if anyone else is noticing this but the forum is gone to shit, especially the off topic section and I'm personally holding the chat box responsible for it.

It's all fun and games for people who troll it but for others who log in a couple of times a day it gives the impression that fuck all is happening. Some might view a lot of the posts as spam but at least it keeps the boards tipping over.

Something to consider.

It's been flagged up by others already Jim, but alas its here to stay. It's a selling point for Elite membership and other members have openly admitted they wouldn't bother visiting the site if it wasn't for Chatbox.

The promise of PES2013 really ought to get the site buzzing again. I know off topic has suffered but the core posters for that area are not just on Chatbox ... they are not even visiting the site.

In the last two years, theres usually much buzz before PES is released and alot of hype around the PES threads but now it seems dead not because of a lack of members interested in it, but because of the dissappearance of Techskill and U777 who were the center point for the discussion off PES. Since them two have left, its been more quieter and less interest about the upcoming release

I wouldn't go as far as saying the chatbox is 'killing' the forums, but I certainly think it may, at times, take away activity from the forums, because, after all, it's a lot easier just to type something into the chatbox, than to go and find/make the thread for it.

the chatbox allows for real discussion - instant messaging that is gratifying. So not so much about being too lazy to make a thread but quicker rapid discussion. More enjoyable but also fleeting.

I do have the routine however of visting this site in this sequence 1)fantasy league, 2) get new posts - read through them, then 3) chatbox

have administrators ever thought about chatboxes in regular threads that could run alongside all of the regular posts?

How do I find the chat box >.<

You need to upgrade to the payable Elite membership first, Here

I'm with Iron on this one, I'll only visit the Chatbox after I've been through the Fantasy Footie and main forums. I know some members are habitually in there but during quiet times they will come out and post.

As for Ultimate777 and Tech_Skill, 777 was less involved in the PES sections and Tech visits have been somewhat sporadic for the last 18 months now. Members will always drift away but the community remains strong.

Based on memory alone, I believe that the plug-in in question can only be activated or de-activated on the site, rather than applied multiple times. Even if the latter were possible, server load would be an issue as it is going to be when the launch of PES come about.

It might be a factor, but a small one. I thin it's quite apparent the amount of activity on this board has gone down alot in the past year or so.

Meh, I could list you off at least 20 members who troll these boards, more than enough to start a good debate.

What the boards are lacking are a few bad guys to get up peoples backs and get them posting i.e Laughinman, Football777, Stella. It's just too goody goody.

The chatbox is killing all the small talk and if something big happens like the shootings there last week, the chatbox is getting spammed to bits. That thread should of had 20 pages in the first day.

Actually agree with this.

If you owned the site, or had the opportunity to do so, what would you do? The Elite membership has few perks and very few new (or even) established members people pay for the subscription. Earlier this year I bought Ali, Matt and Iron Elite membership as I believed they'd benefit from access to Chatbox with the amount of time they spend on the site.

I myself spend bloody hours of each day on this site, thinking of new things to breathe life into the site and posting my brand of crap to keep the cycle moving. The problem is all the best ideas equate to diddly if you don't have the membership to support it. The core community is the PES section, now even more so. Its a mixture of demographics who just aren't interested in Elite membership or any additional perks. The best debates, trolling, spamming, idiocy and arguably some very concise posters inhabit the PES section.

The off topic section is dying because - and having having spent hours reading years worth of material - posters in the off topic section aren't kids anymore, they've grown up, moved on and become disinterested. For me if you want to get new characters in or bring old ones back you have to appeal to those crowds.

The forum does look rather tired, personally I've no issue with the layout but when you visit other forums you notice the difference. Its startling. However as ownership currently stands, the site will not change because its part of a network of sites. i.e it remains static until it becomes no longer viable to operate.

Personally I find Chatbox useful for the Fantasy Footie but thats just me and Chatbox is usually the last place I visit anyway. I think if you get rid of Chatbox its harder to justify Elite membership - let alone sell it - without replacing it with something worth while. Get rid of Chatbox, well may as well get rid of Elite and setup user groups.

Yes Chatbox is detrimental to posting on the site but not to a scale that affects the site drastically. It's certainly not harming the PES section as no one is interested in chatbox (or Elite). I appreciate that years back the site was certainly more vibrant, the amount of lost personalties is a shame but the off topic section is less frequented by even you Dundon's, so really, what would you like to see here to encourage you to post more, aside from the removal of chatbox or older members returning?

The major problem you have, imo, is the division between the two 'types' of member. There's the regulars, 90% of whom don't even play PES these days, and then there's the people who found this place through google because they were looking for PES stuff, and only ever post in the PES/option files section.

I'd look for a way to integrate more of the latter into the regular community, don't ask me how though.

It's all in the indexing of threads and sections. Disband the general forums section, move the content into PES forums under a general forums subsection and Its more likely to be noticed by PES only posters.

Certainly, placing the Football forum closer to the PES2013 section it will generate considerably more hits and posts when PES2013 is released.

Make it so.

Waiting....
That would annoy mods and admins. I could see loads of threads being created in the wrong areas, if that happened.
