If the chatbox was removed I don't think the conversations we had would move into a regular thread. The chatbox is great as it allows for quick conversation for regular small talk.

That would annoy mods and admins. I could see loads of threads being created in the wrong areas, if that happened.

That doesn't strike me a viable reason not to do it as wrong threads are always and always going to be created. If the Off-topic section is waning then greater exposure to it is required. Otherwise there is little point having them as little more than spam threads.

If the bread and butter of the site is the PES sections then what is the real issue? The site is marketed as a PES site and as such needs to cater to that market first. Without that interest this site is unsustainable.

If this site was re-branded to anything other than PES or FIFA, or video game specific to capitalise on its current membership the forum would bomb overnight.

As I speak there are 25 members online now, less than 7 are posters that frequent the off topic more than PES sections ... and 2 members of staff. During October this site is awash with PES fanatics, they're considerably more important to this site than chatbox, so is keeping them interested in visiting.

I think we need to remember that the success of this site is based firmly on PES and the people it brings to the site and this forum would still function without the core members of the off topic section - I included.

I just said that it would annoy mods and admins. I didn't say it shouldn't happen.

I'm not getting involved in the chatbox debate as those who would make the decision should already be aware of my opinion. If not, then that brings a whole new debate as regards yet another barren area of the forums.

In response to your comment though DF, the increase of work for Mods/Admin would be welcome. It used to be that we were busy, especially around the time of demos & game releases. At present I can honestly say that apart from booking Matt & getting rid of a handful of bots, that there is little thread/user moderation to do.

That said, there are only a few staff who are active in the forums anyway...

From a business point of view, it seems only logical to filter new joiners and regular PES posters by making them more aware of other sections of the forum. Obviously its not a guarantee but if the structure was as I suggested, a PES section member would click on the PES section and see football related threads they'd most likely have an interest in, the Premier League and other football McGuffins etc. It will more likely entice them than having to search for those threads as they would have to now.

There is real potential in this site, I've seen it and hence my interest in it but unless the owner or at least the staff embrace change its not really going to go anywhere. A successful forum needs enthusiastic staff prepared to champion and drive change.

We're fortunate that PES2013 will be successful compared to previous titles, rather than see the apathy that our owner has, I'd like to see the staff take advantage of PES2013 likely success and run with it by making structural and user based changes. I've made suggestions already to Joel, whether these have garnered any interest with the staff is unknown to me, but I am certainly going to beat the drum from progressive change on the site.

Each year when PES comes out there is the opportunity to build on the members that join for say option files and other PES extras. Why not include in the welcome email a hotlink to the introduction thread, maybe to the football thread encouraging them to post in their team thread? It doesn't have to be a hard sell, merely planting a seed of interest. We're missing a trick here.

I appreciate from an Administrators point of view that they may disagree but from a ownership point of view and crucially driving progressive interest, I'm telling you straight: its a no brainer.

There is a hotlink to the introduce yourself forum but adding a link to the football forum may be a good idea. I'll see if I can get this sorted by tonight and we'll see if it encourages newer members out of the PES area. However, as you say the effect it has will be best observed in a few months when PES is released.

I'll monitor new membership at the end of October against posting outside of the PES sections and see what impact the welcome email has had on new joiners.

I still, obviously, strongly advocate reviewing the structure of the forum.

Yes, we will see what we can do about restructuring the layout. I'm not sure how incorporating the general and PES forums will work due to the sheer amount of PES forums we currently have. Hints and Tips and Goal Gallery could probably be made into sub-forums and I have no idea what's happening with the feedback section as it seems rather pointless at the moment.

I think a sub section for the plethora of less used PES forums is a good move, it would also be a good chance to archive and merge some of them as well.

In terms of the Konami feedback forum, personally I'd bin it as it tends to be spammed with shite. I'm not sure whether it realistically has any practical use on the forum anymore.

I'll send Matt Holme a message before I bin it just in case. At the same time I might remind him about updating to vbulletin 3.8.7

Good luck on the vBulletin update, wouldn't this be at least the 3rd time he's been asked?

Mike, why not just archive the Konami feedback thread into the Elite archive section? If Matt does want it back it'll be easy to restore.

It's not a hotbed of activity but there were still a couple of new posts today and some more from this and last month. I don't want loads of users creating the same thread twice or creating threads/sending PMs asking where they thread went/where the feedback zone went.
