I just don't like the fact that combat even in real time is RPG like in its statistical nature. I'll admit that i should give it a go first before doubting it tho.

I'm guessing you refer to the VATS system? VATS is like a bullet time mode that you can only use for short periods. It's not the norm. At it's heart the combat is an ordinary 3rd person or 1st Person shooter depending on your preference.

On a side note, I've just read that load times have been improved... allegedly they are up to 70% faster than those of Oblivion :shocking:

i never wanted to wish i had a 360 instead of a ps3, the orange box made me kinda feel that way, and now fallout 3 really does, :( lazy ps3 port

Anyone else get this then?

I just left the vault, took me an hour or so and it's been really good so far. I love how over the top the violence is too. I shot a bloke in the face and his head exploded. I'm pretty sure I saw an eyeball amongst the mess.

I'm where you are and agree, its excellent. I actually did the vault twice to test a couple of things.

I keep trying to kill the residents of Megaton for no reason whatsoever. When I stop being a gonk, I'll continue with the game by doing what I'm supposed to.

Fantastically atmospheric so far.

I'm quite occupied with PES and the Become A Legend mode on that at the moment, so I'm definetely going to ask for this game and COD:WOW for Christmas. Shall be some nice games to play on that will last me a good 4 months to a year.

V.A.T.S. is best used close up until you improve your stats. It effectively pauses the game to allow you to shoot... Very effective close up with the shotguns...

For any distance, I find the hunters rifle the best. For some reason I fing the sniper rifle far too vague. Minigun is awesome, as long as you remember it has to wind up first...

Lost my weekend to this puppy. Really enjoying the atmosphere & strangely the eerie silence as you walk around DC.

Hey Flick, I presume you bought this for a console? Any tips on lock-picking? :faceplm: I had the same ruddy problem with Oblivion. I could never do it.

I haven't played this as much as I'd have liked. Currently I'm on my first quest. It started harmless enough, deliver a simple letter to some girl's family, but now I have to take care of some gang called "The Family." I've come across a raider with a flame-thrower, a super mutant with a mini-gun and God knows how many of them street shark-like things on my travels. I had to dispose of them all with a pistol and a crappy hunting rifle. :faceplm: I need to find me some weapons and quick.

Haven't really played this since Saturday :fplm:

Love the first hour in the vault and Megaton though. I keep loading the game on Sunday and killing the sherriff of Megaton in a "how long can I survive" sort of situation. I don't know what my obsession is with doing that but I've also done it in Thief, Daggerfall, Oblivion, GTA etc.

Wasted many an hour being chased like a goat around the various gameworlds.

Not too difficult. The trick is to move screwdriver slowly. As soon as you feel the pad rumble/pin shake, stop moving and move the pin left or right then try again. there's a fair element of trial and error to begin with, just move slowly to prevent the pin breaking too soon. Once you have done a few easy/very easy locks you'll soon find the sweet spot tends to be in the same place.

The hunting rifle is one of my fave weapons. Mines repaired @80% and is excellent for stealth kills & ghouls. If you want to find loads of weapons, other than just picking them up off dead mutants (good source for rifles), get to to the capital and rummage around a few buildings. Up your luck stat & they'll be coming out of your ears.

Whatever you do, don't go too far north without decent weapons & shitloads of ammo. Not a great deal up there & the radscorpions are tough little buggers.

Been playing this for most of the day, the sheriff of Megaton has been killed on mine but I avenged his death. I'm now about to start the quest that Dan is on.

EDIT: I think I need to go back to some of the smaller places and do some quests and build my experience. I tried to just get on with the main mission of finding the father and headed to Arlington (I think) and got raped by a gang who were sent by the head guy from the vault to hunt me down.

Anyone able to help with The Family quest ?.

I just finished it. What would you like to know? I'll try my best to help.

EDIT - Cheers Flick, I had a go earlier and managed to pick two locks. Took me about ten tries though. :faceplm:
