We need to practise because we find it too easy? Now that right there, that doesn't make sense. I have slaughtered teams in Pro Evo for years now. In PES 2009 my Master League would consist of seasons of going undefeated, winning the treble, scoring bucket loads of goals, and monopolysing possession in every single game. And this would occur with lesser skilled teams. It would be a matter of when I scored, and how many I would score, not if I would score. And the opposition only ever scored from corners, or from my goalkeeper making a hash of things.

So in what way would I need more practise? The passing has never required any skill nor any practise. It is pick up and play, stringing brilliant flowing moves together with minimal effort. It has sustained for so long because it was enjoyable but, with the enjoyment diminishing, and the games failure to change for four or five years now it has became tiresome and lackluster, and way to easy for those of us who are looking for some sort of evolution (no pun intended) to the gameplay and a more difficult challenge.

And you don't have a problem with it because it's easy. Many people don't have a problem with anything unless it is difficult for them to master. You can play brilliant attacking football, with superb build up, with very little effort. Those of us who want a real challenge, who want to actually have more control than just deciding when to pass, are left with a game that resembles a paint by numbers canvas we all had when we were four years old. Once you get the movement of the opposition down, and the timing of the passes that is it, it is all said and done. And that is not difficult to do considering how easy it is to hold possession, due to the assisted passing.

We are playing FIFA. But we have also played PES 2010. And we have played every iteration of PES before that. We are here discussing PES. We are using FIFA as a comparison because it is the other football game on the market. We are drawing comparisons because FIFA is doing a whole lot right, with many elements that PES could do with introducing, the major one being the option for semi-assited and manual passing.

You should take an example from the likes of shaun7; he is a big fan of PES 2010 and has far differing views on the game to that of my own. But you don't see him quoting me and being a degenerative little bitch about that. He makes his points and keeps it above board and constructive. Take note, son.

Excellent.

Can someone clear something up for me: why do I need to learn how to pass when no matter where I want to pass PES will overrule me and play it elsewhere?

SuperBees, you have yet to respond to any of the points I've made in this thread because you haven't yet understood them.

About semi assisted and stuff on fifa. They're great. But they decrease player individuality. Something I look forward to in football games because that defines teams.
Anyway, I kind of agree that in pes it's too assisted but at least it's BASING ON THE PLAYER'S ABILITY so it has much more individuality. Though I agree that in pes we should have more control over passing. So I see it this way. Take fifa's power meter and precise analogue passing and stick it with pes' individuality of passing and we'll end up with the best passing system available.

well said.

See now behaving like that we can have a decent discussion about it which is what I'm after and we'll find there's no need to insult anyone.

The game appears to be doing what FIFA used to do years back which is to assist the passes and restrict freedom. It doesn't happen a lot, theose were two instances from a huge number of passes but they were key points in a game which prevented me from creating the goalscoring chances I wanted.

The referees problem was obviously there as, mentioned in another thread somewhere else on here, I absolutely hacked down the CPU in my penalty area without getting anywhere near the ball and even stopped playing knowing I'd conceded a penalty...except the referee didn't blow and the game carried on. Consider me in shock at that moment.

As I've said before, I want Konami to sort these problems out so Pro Evo can be as good as it was before. Some people believe it is that good, I personally don't. I'm an admin on a PES forum so I clearly want the game to do well, I just don't believe it should get special treatment - if I would have criticised FIFA for getting these things wrong as I have in past years, I will criticise PES exactly the same way. Blind loyalty to either of the games or any other game series is something that really annoys me.

I've been playing FIFA 10 this year and enjoying it unlike 09 which I believe wasn't a good game. It isn't perfect but out of the two it feels better which wasn't helped by the horrible speed issues I had on the PC version of Pro Evo which had my head spinning.

I'm having the same speed issues, but when I installed the game on my old computer the game was perfect. It's still not an option for me to play on that computer though, beause it's worn out and crash all the time no matter what I do.

taking away frame skipping, putting the game on "low priority" and affinity to one processor helps alot on the speed on my new computer, it's actually playable then at least.
Also, in your GFX card config, put everything on software override and crank up anti aliasing, image quality options and render options to max and your game will slow even further.

I still think it's a bit pinball-ish for my taste but im hoping this amateur error from KONAMI will be fixed in the next patch.

Last resort is using "Cheat Engine" speed hack and put game speed to 0.8 or 0.9 to bring the game to normal speed.

I play on PS3 and the speed issues you seem to be having on PC sound like a real problem.. the flow and speed of the game on PS3 seems to be fine its much slower then last year & feels much more sim this year IMO..i am not sure what is going on in the PC version but if it is running super fast on PC that would be real game breaker for me.

I still think they could slow the game down a touch more for next years version though.

Have you tried the game on PS3 or 360 ? maybe the passing is also screwed up on PC :shocking:

Totally in shock after reading the gamespot review. I think Konami have made great strides this year. Evidently some reviewers cannot recognise that beyond PES's inferior looks to FIFA that there is a decent game of football. While still flawed the fun factor in my view is definitely back and I would definitely give it at least an 8.5.

Reviewers should play FIFA and PES independently without comparison, if they do this I think they would recognize that both games offer their own individual approach to football on consoles and indeed both are good representatives of what they are trying to recreate.

it's just one dudes review. and remember that anything above an 8 is a damn good game. a 6-7.5 is about right for this game.

^A 6 to 7 is not that good. The game deserves at least a 7.5 +. I would give it somewhere between an 8.5.

Exactly what I have always said. I totally agree with this.

Are you guys crazy? To be a reviewer you HAVE to compare to similar games. That doesn't mean you can't appreciate two approaches to one ultimate goal. What's wrong with you people?

Football Manager, Championship Manager and other games are all compared to each other and ultimately they're all compared directly to FM to see if they can overhaul it as the best of its genre. It is the correct way to review.

I cannot believe some of the stuff I'm reading on here.
