first things first... you need to put down what console you play on.
if you play on ps2 or pc or something then yes... pro evo will be shit, this is because, rightly so, they put less effort into the game; for ps2 as its an old system thats had its day and it can't handle the technology they use to make the optimum game (ps3, xbox). it also sells a lot less and it means having to apply more resources into this defunct console to make less money??? makes no sense to advance the game for this console. and for the pc, it doesnt sell that well (most people own a console, and yes, i don't care if YOU don't own a console, you're in the minority) and it'll be limited by most peoples graphics card etc... (again, i don't care if you have bill gates's personal pc to play it on, the game can't cater for your system and forget everyone with a lesser system) so anyway again why pump the money and resources into pc when the get less in return.
if you play on ps3 or xbox then you're playing the optimum version of the game and, frankly, your comments about advancements will make more sense as they actually try to advance the game on these consoles unlike others.
secondly, has anyone played fifa? seeing as there are comparisons on this thread.
i downloaded the demo the other day and i really really really wanted to like it. the interface is so much better, that training ground thing is amazing, the shots curve, there's more tricks, THEY HAVE LICENSES!!! but the game play is sooooo shite its unbelievable. yes, pro evo isn't perfect but its still great....
and besides i'll say again what i've said before...
the things you are looking for to make this game what you want (the counter attacking play that was mentioned, the fouling that was mentioned, etc...)

i'm no expert but i imagine making a game with such intelligent AI as this is very difficult and i certainly imagine the programmers are doing it to the best of their ability, which, as far as i can tell, is the best around.
if you genuinely believe you can solve all the problems in the game that you've all been highlighting then please, go to uni, get a degree in computer programming and invent ways and means in which all your problems and improvements can be implemented into the game. then get in touch with konami because i'm sure they would love to hear from you.
otherwise... just wait for technology and programming to advance in such a manner as to make this ultra realistic, superior AI game that you all long for.

Yeah, and I suppose you know everything about programming?? Cause it doesn't takes a genius to know that the PS3 can handle a lot more than the PS2. And it doesn't take a genius to know that the PS2 versions of PES are superior to the Next Gen PES.

Good arguments but they would hold merrit if Seasbass limited his "future nex gen plans" sweettalk for the ps3/xbox only. But he doesn't make a distinction he talks in general and general means ALL SYSTEMS. If it's like you claim than he's a fucking fraud. You talk about downloading demo's. I downloaded the demo for pes2009 and I can tell you this the demo is much better than the final version. A lot of things we experience in the final version and drive us fucking mad, is no where to be found in the demo. That tells me they created a good demo for a shitty final version and that's fucking fraud.

The feel, as you put it, is superb. You can't just pick up the game, knock six in, and go away feeling like the world's greatest. You have to work at it, you have to tame the team, learn how to play with players, learn how to pass, to get runs made, sorting out your tactics. In real life you don't just pitch up at Old Trafford with your boots and your Shin Pads and walk onto the pitch having never played the game now do you?

Define "fun". I have loads of fun on this game, my idea of fun is grinding out a win, battling against all the odds and winning. Training, earning points, wins, good passages of play. If you want something that rewards you as soon as the disc's in the tray - I suggest Fifa.

Apart from 2008, they have improved game upon game. They're not destroying it, but making it more and more realistic.


Well how come I can do it, but you can't? Practice makes perfect, again if you don't want to practice and want it all from the off, go and play Fifa. You need to work with the AI, if you know the computer is going to slide the opposition, take control of that player. I wouldn't have thought that was rocket science.

I find it brilliant that most of the issues that people flair up, I've never suffered with. I find myself drawing the conclusion that Seabass is my guardian angel. When I enter the game shop on the fateful day I am to buy the new edition he swaps the discs to a completely different version to the one most people get. He must visit a few places, as it seems to happen to other people too.

I wouldn't have made my "wise ass" crack if I didn't actually disagree with those points would I? It's just that's a far less tedious way to put my point across, and one that stops me (generally, as you can see this is not the case today) from getting into a disagreement about it.

I also find it ironic that people believe that they take suggestions in the most part from Europe. It shows the small minded world we live in. Japan is clearly the main market for this, and this game is clearly based around what those people want. Think about it, Konami are probably haemorrhaging money, they're not going to pay for focus groups over here, when they can do it in their own country now are they?

When you get into the complete dynamics/physics of playing the game this is where the flaws pop up.!! Most people accept there will be flaws, but, with competitor standards and development capabilties people are pissed about Konami not doing better...

This is the worst in its series, mainly because of the stupid AI.
-The way they run is crazy. I already saved a few replays showing that the strikers (controlled by AI) running away from penalty box, while I'm in possesion and finding a good chance to makle a pass forward!!

-The passing is SO AWFUL! Even AI controlled teams also deliver horrible pass!

-Do you ever experience two of your players collide, and lose the ball? This is realistic? Or the lose ball is around your player, but your player just run through it?

-The most irritating, the AI always automatically goes into a slide tackle without your command...this is total insane! It really make me go mad when in the last minute, this happen and give away penalty!!!Bloody Fxxking AI!!!!

This is the first time in its series to have such a big problems. I play Winning Eleven since WE6. It used to be a good game, realistic and need good defence skill because you must rely solely on your defend skill to protect the game. Now, no more, the game is spoiled, the attacking players always find no good chance to deliver fatal pass, even when already see the chance, very often, the pass is so extremely terrible. This really drives people mad because you already clearly see the chance, but the pass, always unsuccessful!

I am a serious die hard fan of this game. I only play two games in recent years. One of it is Konami Winning Eleven. But now, Konami really let me feel dissapointed. Although it still might have few minor problems in the past version, it is still acceptable, but this one, it makes you don't have much mood to play! I am sure if Konami repeat this, they will definitely loss it's consumer to EA.

To be honest, I do hope that EA keep work hard to improve FIFA game. I haven't touch FIFA since FIFA1999. I changed to WE. We play WE ddefinitely because of it's gameplay, not because of Konami. It just seems to me that some people want to much from a game if you wan the real thing go outside and play with some friends. This is a video game and it has it's limitations I enjoy this years version much better than 08 Konami has made some improvements this year that I have liked and hopefully they will continue to improve upon it. I miss, among other things, the Japanese commentators and the possibility to mix kits before the game, i.e.: The possibility to use your home shirt with your away socks and shorts.

The game also lacks Feeling, and is one of the easiest versions.

Fanboys, seriously, its a shame, cos a few people on here are wasting their time with a sub par game for the sake of some misguided loyalty.

Konami doesnt give a shit about these people and how loyal they are, which is why they have been releasing pretty much the same game with different kits and stats for a few years now.

ISS pro evolution all the way to PES6, yes, all better than fifa, no arguement there, last year i stayed away from fifa, (fanboy mentality, i stuck with pes 6) despite a few people telling me FIFA 08 was better than PES 2008. But after buying copies of FIFA 09 and PES 2009 on xbox and ps2 (4 copies) its no question for me, FIFA 09 is by far the more realistic game and gives you far more control over players and tactics and therefore far more opportunities to make mistakes.

I also know I am not alone and that a few hardcore PES gamers have made the switch just so we can enjoy a bug free, finished, next generation game of football.

Besides, FIFA has mercilessly ripped off pro evo anyway, this idea the two games are miles apart in style doesnt really hold up, FIFA has taken pro evo innvovations and put a twist on them, its not like 5/6 years ago, when FIFA didnt have a power meter and you couldnt even control power in your shots, or when fifa didnt have the edit mode that pro evo did, or when fifa was pure arcade and no substance.

In all honestly, i see FIFA 09 as the game PES next generation should have been.

But thats my opinion.

no you don't adjust the stats to you're liking and no you also don't make the team you like stronger and you don't give your favorite player 99 for all his stats but you make the game as realistic as possible by giving the teams and players the stats they deserve.
if you don't know this by now do you mind me asking how long have you been playing PES? because most gamers already know this and that is also why the option is there because the research that is needed to make all teams and players play as they should is a though task.
KONAMI knows this so they usually research the big teams reasonably well but the smaller teams are overlooked.

the game engine has nothing to do with the animations my friend so don't mix that up.
the animations could have and should have been a lot better but i will choose gameplay over graphics and animation anytime.
and from you i expected a lot better and i'm sorry for that my mistake obviously because you of all people have always stressed the importance of stats for a football game and this football game is no exception but the engine is there maybe not as grand as u would have liked it i agree but the stats in this game matter unlike in FIFA.

What will happen if Konami makes the AI to decide when to pass or when to sprint or when to shoot? Now, the AI already automatically do a rough tackle without your command. doesn't this is stupid? The passing is awful. And the running is unbelievable. As I already mentioned, I already saved a few replays, to prove my points. I am a Die Hard Fan of Winning Eleven. And I only play two games in recent years. tekken = 40%, Winning Eleven = 60%. I love Winning Eleven. Not that I don't like Winning Eleven. Because I love this game, I am sad when we encounter so many flaws in WE2009. Seriously, It really affect the gameplay. Haiz...really hope that Konami repair all the flaws before launch a product in future. we all hope so.

I have been supporting Winning Eleven since Winning Eleven 6. I leave FIFA and change to Winning Eleven. Almost all my friends do the same, almost at the same time. We love this game so much. The game is so realistic, and the game play system was a good one. We all love to play Winning Eleven.
BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, We all bought the latest Winning Eleven 2009. To be honest…we are all very disappointed and feel angry. The game just have so many many many stupid flaws.
1) The Passing now is so awful. VERY OFTEN, you can’t even successfully pass to a nearby teammate. WHY? This is very annoying. This is so UNREALISTIC! Sometimes, it give us impressions that all the players in the game are retarded. Can’t even deliver a normal pass. The passing is always not to the direction which you want or it ALWAYS FAIL to deliver the ball EVEN to your nearest teammate. ALWAYS the teammate must run to another direction to pick the lose ball, which is supposed be delivered to his feet!
2) When an opponent player are running down the flank near the line, ALWAYS the AI will automatically send my side back and center back to run towards the opponent player WITHOUT I pressing the square button (team mate pressure)! Why? When we only press X button, and the cursor is on the nearest player to the opponent, Why the other teammate still running to the opponent’s direction like we had pressed the square button?
3) WHY CPU ALWAYS SLIDE TACKLE WITHOUT OUR COMMAND!!!!!??????? WHY?????!!!!!
4) THE Running is so stupid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY AMF ALWAYS not in the position to attack??? When we have the chance to launch a counter attack, ALWAYS, the strikers are standing too far always from all the teammates! Usually, in all the previous series, when we successfully halt opponent’s attack and turn it into a counter attack, we will always play a fast passing game in order to create a deadly counter attack, eg. (just only one of the method) Defender gets ball (near to own penalty box) , pass to DMF or CMF (at center midfield), then from DMF or CMF to AMF (further midfield), then from AMF to striker. All the passing need to be done in very fast way. BUT IN 2009!, ALWAYS! Front line attacking midfielders are always not there, and yet, the strikers are either IN OWN HALF(dreaming, thus not ready to counter attack!) or there is no midfielders at front line ready to receive ball and make the final pass to the strikers!!! The gap between the nearest teammate to the strikers are CRAZY!
5) THE game just stop even when you are attacking AND you already reached the opponent’s penalty box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!! I almost THROW my controller!!!! EVEN CRAZY is one time, the opponent’s defender make a stupid pass to my striker, and you know what, the whistle blows! =.=!!!
6) Shoot! Hahaha…… I really can’t believe that even the top striker in the world just always shoot direct to the goalkeeper or ALWAYS SHOOT WIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahahaha……Sad that Konami make the game stupid rather than develop AI……..
7) CAN ANYONE TEACH ME HOW TO DELIVER A PROPER FREEKICK????????????? CAN KONAMI PLEASE TEACH US??????????????????????????????? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!!???!!!

We all feel so sad, disappointed, angry. We can’t believe that KONAMI launch a product which have so many flaws.. Believe me, I never complaint about Winning Eleven. We all love Winning Eleven. Thus, we urge KONAMI to really conduct research to your latest WE product, WE 2009. Know the problems and not to repeat in next game! If you would want to know more, if you care, you could just search in this forum to find out more of the problem exists in this game. SERIOUSLY, we are shocked, still unable to believe that KONAMI has launch this game which has so many flaws, which has KILL it’s beautiful and realistic game play. No more fun when we play it.
Please, If you still love us, please don’t repeat same problem. Don’t force your fans to abandon you. We change from Fifa to WE. We can also change from WE to others or back to FIFA, which we really do not want it to happen. Don’t take the fans loyalty as granted.

I didn't read all the thread because this really anoys me and not PES. But i will only say something to him and people that thinks and feels the same.

If you spent more time studuying, checking and "investigating" TACTICS, and learning more about how work EVERY STAT ingame, and how to rate players, wich is the worst fault in PES 2009, the players are all absolutly bad-rated. And sometimes are that stats what makes players to act bad and fell that doesn't suit real life. You will enjoy more the gameplay.

I haven't touch FIFA since FIFA1999. I changed to Winning Eleven cince then. The greatest footy game? Haha..I can agree that Winning Eleven or PES is a superior football game. If not, many of us won't support this game for so many years until now. But, sorry, although I have support this game for so long, I just can't be like you, BLINDLY claim that this is the GREATEST FOOTY GAME. What a joke!

And it is stupid brainless to insult FIFA or its supporter. Boy, Learn to respect each other.

the game engine has nothing to do with the animations my friend so don't mix that up.
the animations could have and should have been a lot better but i will choose gameplay over graphics and animation anytime.
and from you i expected a lot better and i'm sorry for that my mistake obviously because you of all people have always stressed the importance of stats for a football game and this football game is no exception but the engine is there maybe not as grand as u would have liked it i agree but the stats in this game matter unlike in FIFA.
so with the right stats this game is unbelievable. so when you even try to compare FIFA to PES i really start to worry about you my friend and that would be too bad. so it isn't the criticism that bothers me because we all want PES to be the best it should be but saying that what we have at the moment is crap and comparing it to FIFA WELL NOW THAT IS NONSENSE

But I just don't see How PES09 is better than either PES6 or PES5. I've posted my Reasons in the "PES09 vs PES6" thread.

And it wasn't my intent to insult you or anything. It's just that Labeling a group as "moaners" really annoys me. It's limiting in so many ways.

I mean, yes there are moaners who don't do anything else besides moaning. But there are also moaners who are true fans of this series, they criticize the game because they want the game to get better.

About the Stats, I couldn't agree with you more. And I really appreciate that at least someone in this forum remembers all the times I've suggested that New Stats would make the game even better.

For one thing, I expected a lot of New Stats by now. But PES09 doesn't offers anything Significantly new.

As for the engine, maybe I'm mistaken.. but I think the engine haves a lot to do with the player movements.

And to be fair, I don't think PES09 is helpless, the game does haves some nice touches.. but I do think PES09 is average at best. I prefer PES6 or PES5.

FIFA09?? There's something I still don't like about that series, for one thing the Stats are mostly Irrelevant to the gameplay. The only positives for me is that the movements Look good, and although sluggish, it feels more fluid than PES09.

But like you, I prefer good gameplay to good Visuals.

Anyways, here I am moaning about PES09, trying to generate constructive criticism, because I think it can only help this series for the better.
