Hitman, I think that you and all the other England fans that find watching your own country play in the World Cup (the BIGGEST and BEST sporting event/spectacle on Earth) have been a little spoilt by the fact that England never fails to qualify for an event such as that. Austrailia on the other hand.....swap spots with me for a moment. We are by far and away the best team in Oceania, I would go as far as to say better than any Asian side, yet until only recently, we have not had a direct route. We have always had to playoff with a country fom South America or somehwere else that is football dominated - that is to say that "Soccer" is not the most popular code in Australia (and while I'm thinking of it.....Australia 3 - England 1, in England....ha, ha, ha!!!)
I'm not whinging as such, rather pointing out that if England did fail to qualify (heaven forbid), then I think that you would have a far greater appreciation of watching your country play International Footbal.
I watched the World Cup (almost every game) and the thought of seeing Australia play (possibly only the first stage, as I'm a realist and wouldn't give them any chance of getting any further) is mouthwatering.
I live in hope!!!!
P.S; I actually follow the fortunes of the England National Team...but only because Australia don't get to play the major Tournaments.
