The me the shooting is just not right. Seems like they are kicking a lead ball! Its near impossible at times to hit a high solid shot. I fill up the hole gauge from outside the box and the shot comes out mid level. Only one timers seem to be balanced out.
Ye i noticed dat 2 the ball also sounds lyk a hammer wen u dribble . .

This time Fifa won. PES 2008 hasn't been around for more than a year but it's already extremely easy on whatever difficulty. So many features were removed and the game was modified in ways that make it more of an arcade game than the ultimate simulation. I've always been a devoted fanatic of the PES series but this time EA released a better game.

PES2008 isn't realistic, FIfa 08 is... Enough said
Fifa's d most fustratingl game ever i dnt understand y people play it . .

Miss. I've got the ps2 version and the ML mode is simply ridiculous. It is virtually impossible to defend.. so many times i've had a header scored past me from a corner when i have had both dentre backs marking the scorer. So many times i've had a bog standard player from krakow wizla skin 3 of my "world class" defenders before burying the ball in the bacl of the net. So many times i've made a slide tackle only for the ball to bounce to the opposition team.. AGAIN. So so so so many times i've been chasing a man for half the length of the pitch and my defense has, for an unknown reason, ran away from him in order to give him a clear run on goal and, no matter how many times i have pressed the X button, failed to make tackle.

The attacking is pretty normal in terms of past PES games, they've made it more challenging - sometimes there really is 10 men behind the ball - but it actually makes the scoring satisfying. But the defending and AI is unforgivable. It doesn't feel like a fair contest anymore.. why can Phil Jagielka dribble through half my team like a half Ronaldinho half Maradona super freak?? It is obvious that the computer has a deeply unfair advantage all over the pitch on the top level of play.. i know they wanted the game harder but its been completely overdone, its not realistic at all but merely cheating.

The only reason i mention Master League AI an nothing else is because nothing else is particularily important to me. Commentary.. who listens really?? Presentation? always shocking an has been since the ISS days. Fake names?? ISS days once more.. anyone remember allejo haha?? Multiplayer mode - does what it says on the tin. Online - dunno i can't have a go.. but sounds like a pain in the backside to me. World Tour?? as someone said bring back the scenario mode from the ISS days, this world tour thing is a joke.. "score a hatrick with your one armed, one legged, one eyed man in the last 5 minutes against all the best players in the history of the world" i exagerate but the mode is just daft. Music?? the music?????? are you kidding me, always has an always will be the most annoying thing ever.. turned off immeadiaely.

So as you can see the Master League mode is the only thing i care about and as the AI has been royally fucked up i have completely lost my faith in what used to be my favourite gaming franchise. I don't get enjoyment anymore, just a deep yearning to throw my control pad so hard it shatters into a thousand pieces. And people may accuse me of being a shit player - and i admit i am not the best in the world - but i have played about 23 games at top level in the master league mode an lost only once. In fact my biggest moments of rage where when i was winning 3-0 and they scored a ridiculous consolation goal. I just cannot get over how fraudulent the AI is. And as a result i am going back to an older PES game for the first time as opposed to playing the new one.

PES 2008 - gigantic miss

I'm late for the party, but I thought I'd share my impressions anyway. I have the PC version (this time ported from X-box), a buddy has the PS2 version. Here are my initial reactions (pasted from another forum):

It's absolutely fucking horrible and looks more lika a random shitty FIFA game than PES. I've played this on PS2 for some time now, and I must say - the X-box/PC version is a nightmare.

For starters, everything lacks in precision. Shots, dribbling and free kicks feel absolutely random.

The players' movements look horrible. They move like they did on FIFA 97. No realism here.

I can't see shit. I play my PES on the TV, using a USB controller. All text has shrunk in this version, for no reason at all, and it has a completely new set of cameras, all of which are shitty, in comparison to PES5 (I never upgraded to PES6 as I failed to see any improvements). It's either tiny players or no overview.

The input design is user unfriendly. It looks like I'd have to buy a gamepad with three fucking analog sticks just to be able to perform the most basic fucking operations while watching a replay - like rotating a view. I also have to sit at my desk while editing names, because this shitty port doesn't have a virtual keyboard.

There are no player names on instant replays during matches. I have to guess who it was every time judging by his looks if I don't know his shirt number, and it's not that easy given the crappy camera types.

There are no "quick restarts" on free kicks, one of the most awesome details on the PS2 version.

There are no individual settings for defense and attack.

And exactly why is it four times as large as PES5?

The PS2 version is just as awesome as PES5 though.

I had to revise some of my initial statements, after I had played the game for a week:

For starters, everything lacks in precision. Shots, dribbling and free kicks feel absolutely random.
Migrating from PES 5 to PES 2008 meant I had to start from zero here. While I have to admit that I have mastered both dribbling and shooting, free kicks are still impossible. On PES 5 I'd score from a free kick at least 2 times in every 5 games and practically in every single 2-player game on the PS2 (because my buddy, the only opponent, kept spoiling me with opportunities). I've boosted Rosicky's free kick accuracy to 99 on PES 2008 (as well as his shot power, precision, curling and technique) and I'm still getting nowhere. Not even in training mode. It just can't be done. Maybe the controls are different, but it doesn't look like it.

The players' movements look horrible. They move like they did on FIFA 97. No realism here.
I've gotten used to this. Either that or I've just learned to ignore it.

The input design is user unfriendly. It looks like I'd have to buy a gamepad with three fucking analog sticks just to be able to perform the most basic fucking operations while watching a replay - like rotating a view.

I've solved this, by mapping my controller buttons differently.

The game still lacks lots of settings and options that the PS2 version and the old PC versions had. I still haven't gotten over that.

As for the verdict - I remain indifferent.

So many things wrong with this game. To name just a few:

Gameplay:
- Passing is poor, long being too fast and uncontrollable, short being very innacurate due to there only being 8 possible directions in which to pass - some many times I've tried to pass to a free man in the box and it's gone too far in front or behind him, and many times I've tried to make a simple pass to a defender and it's gone the wrong side of him and put an attacker through on goal
- Tackling - just impossible, almost laughable
- Fatigue - played a league, after just two games most of my players were too knackered and had to be rested

Graphics:
Slowdown - we all know about this - makes play in the penalty box very difficult

Features:
Lack of kit selection - having to play against a team in the same colour, schoolboy error
Editing - again, much covered topic

I'm too knackered from being disappointed with this game to remember the other points. I'd exchange this for the PS2 version but I still can't bring myself to do it, perhaps because it would make my PS3 feel redundant
for what system?

Awful

AWFUL game and i wish i'd just set fire to my £40. At least the b'stads who released this crap wouldn't have it.

Not being able to play the online mode due to lag is unforgiveable - Being able to dribble past an entire defence from your own half is laughable, and it's not as if playing a passing game makes things anymore entertaining due to the innacurate and sporadic passing which leaves me tearing my hair out as yet another fine move ends in a shocking pass to a defender who then jinks his way past my every attempt to tackle, or worse still, plays footy tennis with the player on the opposite wing.

I hope seabass dies of herpes.
