It was a different topic so I thought people wouldn't recognise it if I edited it. The mods are probably getting impatient with me so I'll just edit them now on

Sorry for double posting but here are some new screens from PES 2013.
http://winningelevenblog.com/blog/pes2013-first-screens/
Looks good, but I want to see other player models, not only bloody Ronaldo. We understand they have got his dribbling animation but what about other players?

It'll be stupid for Konami to only do ronaldo; i also highly doubt that they will do all players, my guess is that they will do it for the top or unique players only.

Also, i have heard that double tapping 'X' is the control for tackling in PES 2013. Sure it will be comfortable unlike FIFA's control scheme, I wonder if that would be intuitive enough to perform it. Plus how are they supposed to integrate manual one twos. The manual trigger runs is useless, since it does not allow us to make 'on the run' passes. Hope they won't screw it up.

I kinda like this new control system they are trying to introduce. It gives us more options on the ball for first touch and dribbling.

Then why does FIFA outsell KONAMI? Simple, is because of their reviews, adverts on TV, marketing style and the margins etc. Its not only because of the gameplay - many peoples minds are eluded to what other people hear instead of inspecting the game itself. KONAMI could outsell FIFA with decent gameplay with no bugs and with their advertising easily, they just fail with things such as licenses etc. Gameplay is the hugest thing in selling but a game with bugs and crappy advertising would sell less than a game with bugs and decent advertising. So aslong as they fix the bugs, they are gonna sell a lot more this year and by marketing it makes the whole thing look more professional than Amateur if you get what I'm saying

A fair point but I disagree, FIFA will always sell more copies than PES irrespective of how much better PES might be, the casual market is bigger than the hardcore market, and there's absolutely no way that Konami has enough money to compete for the casual market, as simple as that.

Furthermore, PES was doing great back in the PS2 days, but FIFA still sold more copies every year. The real problem that Konami's had with this gen of consoles, is that ever since the complete bag of shit of a game that PES08 was, they lost the hardcore market, and ever since they've been playing catch up with EA Sports.

Meanwhile, EA Sports invests and makes too much money out of insubstantial video games, so I don't see them making something serious any time soon, and the only reason why hardcore gamers bother with FIFA is because PES is an embarrassment. Konami on the other hand, is copying everything that EA Sports is doing, and adding a little spin on it to make it feel more hardcore, yet falling embarrassingly short every year.

All things considered, I think the hardcore market is there to be won by a third party, but I don't see Konami doing it any time soon. The first company that realizes that EA Sports owns the casual market, will win the hardcore market.... It's not very difficult in my opinion, a third party comes in, they look at what the casual market likes, they realize that features such as 11 vs 11 and BAL mode must be avoided at all costs, they never start a fight that they know they cannot possibly win, and instead of wasting their time with a video game that will probably end up disappointing both casual gamers and hardcore gamers (which is what PES does on a yearly basis), they simply invest all their money into ONE simple and solid gameplay mode designed to win the hardcore market.

If I had it in my power, the footy sim would be simple: just two playing modes,

1st mode -- you won't get any real football teams, you'd get current gen football players, classic football players, and you would select your own fantasy team. As is to be expected, due to the lack of other playing modes and due to the lack of leagues, all the money would go into the things that really matter: the best animations that current gen consoles have to offer, incredible player individuality, the best graphics, the best commentary, etc, etc.

1st mode -- the online game would function around a one per one player selection, meaning that it would be impossible to have Romario on one team and at the same time have another Romario playing on the other team as well, if Player-A selects Romario as his first pick, then Romario will be unavailable on the screen of Player-B by the time Player-B has his first pick.

1st mode -- added to that, licensed uniforms from the past and present would be available for online play, so that absolutely nobody can complain about unlicensed uniforms or boots. And the same with stadiums.

1st mode -- and of course, with the non-online experience, it would be possible to create your own league or tournament with the players and teams that are available, though it would be impossible to create new players and new teams. And a training mode goes without saying. But for the most part, the game would be focused on the online experience more than anything else.

2nd mode -- you won't get any real leagues, only real teams from the past and present: everything would be the same as the first mode, but with real teams from the past and present.

I'm very certain that as soon as a hardcore gamer experiences the freedom of a proper analog system, and gets to play with the likes of Robero Baggio, Romario, and the rest of his fantasy team, and gets to experience the level of detail that would go into each specific player, that the game would be successful in creating its own niche within the industry, and that neither PES nor FIFA would be competent enough to compete gameplay-wise.

I look at PES and FIFA the same way I look at Santa Claus, it's something you believe in when you're younger, you believe it will get better, but then eventually you realize that making shitty video games on a yearly basis is actually much more profitable than taking five years off and coming up with a real effort, and when that reality sinks in you stop believing in what the system has to offer. So considering that sentiment, my disappointment at this point is not really that PES and FIFA are complete shit year after year, it's mostly the fact that no third party has come out with the "five year in the making footy sim, set to reinvent the genre" announcement that the genre is screaming for.

But all that asides, I think that's one of the best trailers I've seen from Konami, dramatic and ambitious, a good message (albeit a bit hypocritical if you considering who said it), I almost bought it, but then I remembered that there's only so much that can be done in such a limited time....

I'm thinking that PES13 will be a "re-worked" version of what they've been doing with PES11 and PES12, the flaws will be the same because the foundation of the game is the same, the flaws will be the same because the analog stick is not used properly, and PES14 will be another "re-worked" piece of work. That's the main reason why PES became stale in the first place, because Konami continues "re-working" on things that don't work anymore.

I want to like them, I really do, but a company that releases games like PES08 is shameless, and to believe that such a company can produce a solid effort without taking two to three years off, is foolish.

LOL at the trailer... it didn't show me absolutely anything! Show us the gameplay please!

Here we go again ..:(

I agree with u Dieci, trailers have nothing to do with gameplay.

Konami can make the best trailers ...just like the one with Messi a couple years ago that supposedly shows "Freedom". I tried to explain that trailers do not consist of game play. Trailers are drafted by video editors to bring the best presentation ..not game play.

As usual different year ...same poop...

Also why does Amateur think that Fifa is for casual gamers and PES is for hardcore gamers? PES was the closest sim to footie games on the PS2 but has been an obvious disgrace on next gen. Nothing about PES says hardcore.

I honestly do not believe Konami can revive this series ....PES is a dead fish in the water ..fish = Seabass.

can't fool me with flashy dumb videos

Amen.

Just saw the trailer pop up on my youtube feed and thought I'd give it a go. Haven't played PES for 2 years now (apart from the demos)...

I know you can't judge a book by it's cover but these teasers and trailers are getting tiresome. They don't excite me. There's just no substance there at all. It reminds me of the old FIFA promos back when PES was untouchable. Gimmicks.

I still think PES 6 is the most fun football gaming experience and I still play it with my mates. FIFA is the best current gen football game by a mile, but it's still very frustrating to play and I constantly feel cheated.

Not holding my breath for this one. I will no doubt try the demo. But I think it's probably time to look ahead to the next generation.

Again, well said Amateur.

Groundhog day. Seems like the same crap every year. Konami spend all their time trying to fool its' customers into thinking they've improved the game, rather than actually improving the game.

I've given them roughly $300 for PES 08, 09, 10, 11, 12; of those games, I play/own 0. ZERO.

Too many times crying wolf. Never again Konami.

Sounds promising. I don't touch pes 12 much these days. I usually jump in first day when a game comes out i fancy. But this time think i will wait a week or two before i get it and see what the general voice of the public says(That means ill prob say fuck it and buy it on day one). Surely they must make the graphics a bit better to on pes13?.

Ali

It is happening again
If they don't have up-to-date teams by release, I'll be annoyed. It doesn't have to be on dick, but at least patch it by release day. I'm sure the OF makers would appreciate it.

I too will not believe until I play it but it was nice to hear the things about the shooting and AI. Is this a marketing move? Probably. Is it really going to be as konami says? I don't know.

Oh and for the record, If Konami does not make a good game of football, there's no where else to turn because Fifa is so fundamentally flawed, that no patch or touch up can fix it. On the other hand, pes still has an idea of football, but it's so badly executed that it makes it unplayable aswell. The thing is that even pes needs to be rewrited let alone fifa.

I hate having to wait for another year without a good football game but then again, time passes on and there were other really great games out there like Skyrim and Dark Souls and now Diablo 3 as well as WWE 12 and future games. So I don't think I would miss a football game that much. But still, it would be great to have one.

Well said Shaun, life goes in the gaming world without PES or even Fifa.

Although we have not seen many new titles that grabs our attention like a COD or GOW, we have quite a few games that still squeezes a little excitement into our regular lives.

I am looking forward to Max Payne 3 and Crysis 3 this summer. I am currently also enjoying 2k12 since I love competing online.

Konami can only kick themselves for the decline of PES ...they had a lot of support coming out of the PS2 days (Still there also). Lack of effort and negligence comes to mind when I think about PES.

Again, I don't see them doing anything great this year, they seem to have accepted the direction no matter the cries of the fans ...so they will continue to use deceptive videos and promises to fuel sales.

PES was the first choice for most fans but they lost the battle with the next gen console. They allowed FIFA to take complete control.

FIFA has a market that PES can never reach or attain so no matter what, PES is most likely a dead series now.

That is just wrong on so many accounts. First of all, Pes never had as many fans as Fifa and pes never sold as well as Fifa.

Second, the only reason why fifa is so popular (leaving the usual stuff I say abou it) is because of their marketing and strategies. Konami doesn't market their game well enough especially compared to EA, so it's obvious that fifa will outsell pes especially in recent years where EA invested more in the marketing department to cater for more people. This alone though does not prove that pes is garbage.

Pes 11 and 12 were not as good as some other games because they feel outdated. They way they executed things made it feel too outdated and unplayable.

FIFA has a market that PES can never reach or attain so no matter what, PES is most likely a dead series now.

That has always been the case, Nothing really different, but pes is not dead as long as it still has fans. I know people who totally hate fifa 12 as well as people who totally hate pes 12. What I mean is that both pes and fifa are so flawed that those who see it are disgusted with it.

Fifa is not on another level. That could have been true when there was fifa 09 vs pes 09 and fifa 08 vs pes 08, but instead EA choose to cater for fans and go the eye candy route instead of the good route and we ended up with a BS of a series, fifa 11 and 12 where the game looks like football but is far from playing it.

On the other hand, pes is just riddled with little bugs and it's finishings are just so wrong that it too is unplayable.

So no Pes cannot be dead because EA also F***** up.

But at the end of the day, if both companies continue this stupid trend, then in the long run, both will die. Maybe it'll take fifa more time to die, but it will eventually.

shaun7 your posts make me cringe, you are such a fool. This thread is about PES 13, stop bringing FIFA into it. You ruin every discussion with your hate.

All Im saying here is try something different, give the other franchise a go... I feel cheated by Konami like most of you on here. There lack of finance and support to improve PES is the culprit. Its so broken I cant see it recovering. Thats what I stand for, maybe when FIFA starts cheating me in the future when it has my money, I will come back to PES but for now, I sort of feel this may be the last PES. Unfortunate but true, not worth making the game for a couple thousand players.

Correct Castro ....lets not make this a Fifa vs PES thread and get this discussion closed.

I blame only Konami/Seabass for the death of PES ....only a few people are actually optimistic about this years release. We have been promised so many things its hard to see why we still bother.
The deal breaker for me was and still is online...some folks have good connect ..other can barely connect. :realmad: this is 2012 for gods sake, cant they even fix that?

Dead dead dead ...no coming back ...well there is always miracle which some folks here are hoping for this year.

peace

It still sells over a million annually. It's not dead.

Most over the millions are bought by people to review or die-hard PES fans. Only a few people buy it because they think its a great game.

P.S. Ronaldinho is overrated

Your hatred towards me is amusing. It's stupid to see you following me like an annoying kid.

First of all, I never brought up Fifa and I never compared pes to fifa in terms of gameplay in this thread. It was about pes 13 true, but someone mentioned that pes may be dead and brought up fifa in the discussion. Man, when would kids like you ever learn to read.

I certainly didn't. I never compared them in this thread. The discussion simply turned onto marketing and I gave my 2 cents about it and why Fifa will always outsell pes but I never compared gameplay. Jesus, learn to read man and don't let your hatred towards me blind you.

Funny how they all say the mirror opposite on the FIFA forum ('EA don't listen', 'Konami do', etc). In truth, I play both. I think FIFA has a lot to learn from PES and I think for most it's a case of the grass looking greener on the other side. I've come back to PES after getting frustrated by the arrogance of EA and the need to give any new feature catchy name.

FIFA doesn't do defensive AI at all and their 'tactical defending' addition has exposed this, if they don't sort this I can see serious/offline FIFA players crossing over to PES. FIFA mainly appeals to over-competitive online junkies (or ultimate team spendaholics) these days. They charged £15 for a kit update and that has summed up EA's reliance on the size of their name.

Okay, I'm new-ish on here and wanted to get that out of the way.
