Go with sony, I had mine done with some local people and it kept breaking. If you have a external hard-drive then run a back up onto it then when you get your other one back of sony get all your saves and so on back on your system. Sony ony take about a week tops to send you a new one.

Yeah the safest choice would be to go with Sony, but maybe if you went with the cheaper option, you could force them to give you a guarantee or something, so you wouldn't have to keep paying for te same fix lol

Right, the situation with my PS3 is its at a 'repair' store. Mr. Sanjay was a great guy, recognised there wasnt anything that he could do with my console, so he made me a deal. £75 for a brand new one in 3 weeks. With 3 months Sony warranty. :)

Sounds good enough. I just dont have £145 now.

Sony has given the public the first view of its new game controller for the Sony PlayStation 3.

The Motion Controller for PS3 uses two controllers that work in conjunction with the Sony PlayStation Eye.

The firm said it was a technology demo, but then said the new system would be available early next year.

The news follows Microsoft's announcement on Monday of a controller-free control system it is calling Project Natal.

3D gaming

The Motion Controller for PS3 works in a similar way to Nintendo's Wii controller. A sensor sits on top of the TV and detects the position, distance and movement of two controllers held in a user's hand.

Compared to Project Natal, [the Sony controller] didn't look quite so compelling

Games writer, The Guardian

The device can not only measure where the controllers are in relation to each other, but also how close they are to the sensor, meaning you can create true 3D movement within a game.

The creator of the Sony EyeToy, Dr Richard Marks, who heads up the team developing the Motion Controller for PS3, said the new system was sparking the imagination of game developers.

"We expect this to be a great casual gamers' experience, but we also want to enable some more gamers' games. We think this would be a great experience too," he said.

During the demonstration, the developers showed what the Sony PlayStation Controller was capable of, enabling users to wield weapons, fire a bow and arrow, write on screen and manipulate objects in a virtual environment.

"One thing that is really difficult to do in a virtual world is drawing," said Mr Marks.

"And in particular, writing requires extreme precision. [The controller can be measured] to sub-millimetre accuracy."

Overly optimistic?

Speaking to the BBC, the Guardian newspaper's games writer, Steve Boxer, said he was not convinced the controller would be ready by spring next year.

"I thought the basic idea behind the controller was sound and could lead to some interesting gameplay, but it was very much a tech demo, and compared to [Microsoft's] Project Natal, it didn't look quite so compelling," he said.

"But kudos to Sony for recognising the need to make some sort of physical controller," he added.

Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai told the BBC that they were very pleased with the new technology and played down claims that Microsoft's Project Natal has taken some of the edge off their launch.

"With PlayStation 2, when we launched the EyeToy camera, we had already perfected the art of playing games just using your hands," he said.

"The motion controller we demoed today, it raises the bar in terms of accuracy in 3D. It's all about the accuracy and tracking."

Final Fantasy VII is available on the store for £7.99 if anyone's interested.

Seems a bit steep in price. Metal Gear Solid is coming soon too (in USA at least).

Oh fuck, thats amazing news. I might get it.

Its not steep when you consider its extremely hard to come by in hard copy. I tried getting one a year or so ago, and failed miserably because people were selling them for like £40-£60.

So I purchased it through other sources :shifty:

Might buy it still!

No idea mate. Just did a quick youtube search and it seems to look just as it did if you were playing it on a PS1.

Does it stretch to fit the whole screen?

Yeah I can only guess that it will scale it properly in the PSN download, rather than looking like you just put a PS1 disc in a PS3.

Out of interest, has anyone actually paid for it yet?

I bet the Ebay sellers are well pissed off. As I said earlier the prices on Ebay were ridiculous, but i've just did another quick search, and found a copy that was going for £70

These are the things that are made of win!

I don't really want to risk downloading it if it's just gonna look shit, i've luckly still got my original copy though and just play it on the ps2 and non hd tv.

Well its not exactly getting a graphical makeover, so I doubt it'll look any better. It'll probably just appear in a smaller screen because its the stretching that makes the image look shit.

I just started playing it through again on the PC :w00t

Edit :Where did you hear that Miggy?

Edit 2 : Never mind> just found this on a random forum

"It runs in 1080p actually, but of course it's just upscaling which barely improves it. The blur is nice, as it helps the jaggies.

The best thing about this version is the instant load times... a battle starts and you're right in there as soon as the swirly thing stops... moving indoors and such is also instant. The last time I played one of the PS1 FF games the load times drove me nuts, but playing FF7 off the PS3 HDD felt like a cartridge game.

And yeah, the music is still amazing, and a highlight not only of the game, but of the genre, and even of games as a whole."

Good stuff!
