Got myself the PS3, 60gb, Japan model. :D:D:D

I'm late on the update though, im still on 1.10 while everyone else is on 1.51!

Great machine it is. First thing I noticed, it's really heavy compared to its predecessors, however, it's probably the most quiet of them all. Not a sound at all even when loading.

So far, I have yet to try most of its features (Browsing, bluetooth, PSN) but I did insert my iPod and it works like a beast. You can save the files on to the HDD and videos too. If you have a usb drive, that's a big bonus!

None of my European (PAL) DVDs work though. However an NTSC DVD did work, guess my console only plays NTSC material. :(. Anyway I'll just stick to my PC to watch DVD's i suppose.

Not yet tried Bluray movies as I don't have any.

I like this cool thing on the XMB. At day time the background is yellow and at night, black, turns automatically.

The controllers feel alright and im getting use to it. The R2 has been revamped in a way, i guess it is personal preference for that part. You can turn on the system with the controller too now. And, wirless is brill!

I got two games free with the console, Genji and Ridge Racer. I regret taking in Genji. :(. But then again, it's only a launch title and I just had too much spotlight on it as I was expecting a lot from it. But Ridge Racer is really nice, especially if you loved the older series. It actually reminds me of GT!

------------------------------------

Dan, just avoid getting Genji. I have the game, and based on from what I've played so far, it's pretty shit. Unless you love hack and slash game based loosely on a Japanese mythology.

Ridge Racer 7 though is a must!

Next game I'm looking forward to is definitely MotorStorm.

In USA, the 60GB PS3 costs the equivalent of £306.
In Japan, the equivalent of £254.
Whereas UK, it's £425.

I'm not happy there like. I'm hoping they'll be a price drop quickly after it comes out, possibly in the early summer.

Probably depend on if it sells well or not. I know it hasn't been selling to well in the States and if the same was to happen over here, then I think we could see a price drop sooner rather than later.

It's not going to go down by much - not this year anyway.

I was thinking that the first price drop would be about £25-£50 come Christmas time.

And bear in mind that I'm one of the people that doesn't think that the PS3 will sell well down here.

DILKINGTON!
Playstation 3 hits production snag
The PlayStation 3 going on sale in Europe next month will play only some of the games for its predecessor video game machine -- a move designed to cut costs and speed up production.

Backward compatibility with PlayStation 2 has been billed as a major feature for the PlayStation 3 that went on sale late last year in the US and Japan.

But packing the machine with two expensive computer chips to play both PS2 and upgrade PS3 games has been racking up costs for the money-losing PS3, a big reason behind Sony's flagging earnings.

The European PlayStation 3, set to go on sale on March 23, will not carry the chip for PlayStation 2 and will instead use special software to play PS2 games, saving costs and making mass production easier by reducing parts, Sony spokesman Daisuke Nakata said, while refusing to say how much the move will save.

"The method used for playing PS2 games is going to be different," he said. "We also want to concentrate on developing PS3 games."

It is still undecided whether PS3 machines for Japan, US and elsewhere will also be sold without the PS2 chip, but the option is being considered.

The US and Japanese version PS3 machines also failed to deliver full compatibility with PS2 games.

Almost as soon as PS3 went on sale in Japan and the US, Sony acknowledged it was not properly playing thousands of PS2 games, with some scenes freezing, the music not playing, or the game not working at all.

Downloads for the European PS3 will also be available for playing more PS2 games, but the number of PS2 games the machine will be able to play is still undecided as work is still ongoing to make as many games as possible playable, said Nakata.

The decision to forego the PS2 chip for the European model is yet another blow to the PS3, plagued by production delays. The European launch was postponed until March from the initially promised Christmas.

I'd heard about this.

I don't think it will be much of a problem. The PS3 is firmware upgradeable remember. The PS2 games that don't play at launch will probably be playable at a later date.

And I would've thought that once people have got their hands on a PS3, being able to play PS2 games on the PS3 would be the least of their priorities.

I don't think the price will go down to £200 (which is respectable) until about 2010/2011 so you could be in for a long wait.

PS3 will be available in South Africa as of the 23rd March at a staggering R6300 which is a little out of my league at the moment and may well be for quite a while still.

Been having some serious thoughts in whether to get a PS3 again. I might start saving up for one so I can have a PS3 and an 360. Not being greedy there or anything, it's just that I've always owned a Playstation of some sort and I seem to be playing that more then my Xbox 360 at the moment .
