I tried searching this, but found nothing, so decided to make this thread. :)

So whats your favourite console of all time?

For me its a toss-up between these 2 :

PS1
&
SNES
------------------------------------------------------------

Why PS1 - This was the console I grew up playing the most really, also had some of my favourite games of all time on; FF7, original GT, and MGS.

Why SNES - Street fighter and Mortal Kombat. Nuff said.

I cannot say which was the best as at the time I had them they were the best that was out there.

I had....

Atari
Commador 64
Amiga 500
Nintendo
N64
Sega Megadrive
Dreamcast
Super Nintendo
Play Station
X Box
Play Station 2

Thats off the top of my head and I could have missed a console or 2 in the list that I had.
I never got the XBox 360 or PS3 but I currently have a Nintendo Wii.

I've had the hand-held "consoles" such as a Sega Mega Drive and Game Boy, but I wouldn't necessarily class them as consoles.

Apart from them, I've owned a PS1, PS2 and now an Xbox 360. Not a huge selection really so I can comfortably say I've loved them all. I grew up on the PS1 and it was the birth of many great series of games such as Gran Turismo, and several wrestling games like WCW Nitro. Tony Hawks Skateboarding was born as well as Track & Field being released which was quality with 4+ mates in one room tapping away trying to hold back laughter.

Whereas the PS2 give us the likes of Smackdown 2 (I think) which was excellent, nothing better than giving someone The Rockbottom in a kitchen backstage. Gran Turismo 3 was released as well, quite easily the greatest driving game ever made. GTA San Andreas was also released on the PS2, which is the most enjoyable GTA that I've played. Not only that, there was many superb PES titles on the PS2, when the PES series was in it's prime no doubt. A bonus was that the PS2 was so easy to "chip" or "modify", I didn't have mine chipped but I did get it modified which meant I could play patched PES games, especially the Winning Eleven series from Japan.

Xbox 360 = Ultimate online experience. Playing the likes of COD4 online is truly enthralling, especially with plenty of friends, it's always absolutely hilarious. BioShock is also worthy of a mention because it's one of my favourite single player experiences ever. PES6 was also superb online, shit single player but online was so much fun, I must have played hundreds of matches and was even in an online PES League, before Konami ruined the online with PES08 and 09. Skate also was a very refreshing sports game to play using the analog sticks revolutionarily.

I've probably missed quite a few classics out but, I only have so much time to waste. As for my favourite console, it's probably between the PS2 and Xbox 360.

Hard to just pick one but the SNES, N64, PS2 and X360 are probably my top consoles of those generations.

I guess you mean SEGA Game Gear.

Mega Drive for me, followed by the Playstation.
The Mega Drive was the console that got me into gaming more so then any other. I had the Master System II but had very few games for it and an Amiga of some sort.

SNES was clearly the better of the two at the time but my best mate had one of those so I had easy access to it.

But Streets of Rage II got the most play time, that and Gun Star Heroes which were SEGA exclusives at the time. I think back at those games with the fondest memories. Without being able to save you just had to keep playing and playing. Then lunch would come and your mum would tell you to come eat and turn it off, you'd carry on playing. She'd then come over and turn the TV off thinking she had turned it off, so you'd quickly press start hoping that it had worked. You'd then go back to playing it and feel the the huge plug in the wall and say to your mate "Feel that, it's baking". You'd worry that it may set alight but you carry on anyway.

Or the times you would turn on the console and nothing but a black screen would come up. You'd then turn off the console take out the cartridge and then give the cartridge and the console a good blow. Put the cartridge back in and turn it back on and the game works fine. That was a great feeling of achievement.

These consoles also lasted! SNES and Mega Drives were safe as houses. I loved my Playstation but I must of went through 3-4. Games on CDs would scratch too, not that case with a cartridge. You could also take the games out of the box and stack just the cartridges, saving room.

I'd also add the PS3 into the mix, beings as Hunter gave the 360 ;)

One of my favourite ever FPS' is a PS3 exclusive, in Killzone 2 ( love this game man). Its one that I can see myself playing for a long time, maybe even longer than COD4.

Also for terms of sheer fun, you can't breat LittleBig Planet online man. You and four other players competing is hilarious man.

Also I gotta give the gameboy a big mention aswell. Playing the original Pokemon games was the ultimate joy, especially when my bro was hogging the Playstation. Only god knows how many hours I clocked up on Pokemon Blue, and also Tetris.

PlayStation 2 definitely. Had the best games, and the amount of quality games was staggering. Could easily list 50 fantastic games, covering all the genres.

I've lost the love of gaming I once had, could just come with age. That and the fact I'd rather get fanny then spend money on games.

I was always a nintendo console owner when I was younger, so it'd be pretty strange if I didn't include at least 1 big N console in my list.

My top 3 in no specific order would be:

SNES: The Super Nintendo brought with it the pinnacle of 2D nintendo gaming. The likes of Super Mario Allstars, Super Mario World, Zelda ALTTP and Super Metroid arely would fail to make anyones top 10 lists. The third party support bringing such quality like FF6, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG made it the best 16bit console.

Sega Dreamcast: IMO the best Sega console but the most underappreciated during it's time. I bought mine of Barn because he thought it was shit, and rightly so, he owned shite games for it. However, it featured plenty of games I would class as some of my favourites ever such as Shenmue I and II, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio as well as such great titles like Chu Chu Rocket, Phantasy Star Online, Metropolis Street Racer and Virtua Tennis.

Nintendo 64: My first true 3D console. Third party support sucked but with the likes of Mario 64, Ocrina of Time and Majoras Mask, Banjo Kazooie, Conker as well as the multiplayer marvels that were Turok 2, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and even South Park, who needed it.

It's hard to say really.

I or one of my brothers have owned pretty much every major console since the NES apart from the Wii. I've played dozens out titles on each and I've loved them all in their own little way. The three that stand out most..

The N64 - It was the first console I had bought for me. It was mine. My brother would always let me use his SNES or Mega Drive, but now I was calling the shots. The controller would have to be my second favourite after the 360 too. And obviously the fantastic games like no mercy, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and the like will forever hold a place in my heart. ;_;

The PS2 - Arguably the best game catalogue of any console past or present. It has anything and everything you could ever want. You could go into a game store and come out with a gem easily. Oh and it was home to two of my favourite franchises of all time in GTA and PES.

The 360 - Introduced me to online gaming, has the best controller ever and I've enjoyed pretty much every game I've picked up for it. I can't stress that first point enough though. It's almost unthinkable to think we used to play the likes of Goldeneye with no more than 4 players, (sometimes as low as two once my friend sold his N64 like a fool) cramped in my front room staring at a 22 inch TV. Now I can play with anyone in the world usually lag free! I'll never forget my first few matches on CoD2. It's weird, the second level I played took place on some map with a bombed out church (I forget the name) and despite it been one of the smaller ones, (You could throw a grenade for one end of the map to the other if you wanted) it felt huge. I crouched everywhere and double-checked corners and paths the whole time like a right n00b.

I'd probably say PS2 was my favourite, but only just, for the simple reason, I basically spent countless hours of my teenage life playing the damn thing.

Games rarely feel that great any more. My love for them is fading, they pretty much never live up to the hype, and I'm beginning to get the "Gaming is too expensive of a hobby" feeling, but I never do anything about it. I continue to buy them and end up feeling unsatisfied, but I'm too far gone to change my ways and stop buying them.

Me too. When I was a kid, I never thought I could go through a weekend without playing video games. I could play it for 6 hours. Nowadays, I can barely last 2 hours - that's mostly on online gaming. I guess, the fun of playing video games will fade out as you age.

Back on topic, the Playstation was my favourite. It was the console where I discovered Winning Eleven 4, where a distant cousin of mine introduced it. I was a FIFA guy back then. Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo 2 was the best racing game I've played. Despite completing Metal Gear Solid using some cheats, I still remember how I used to watch my brother playing it, without using cheats, of course. WWF Smackdown 2 was fun to play. Then, playing Tekken 3 with my cousins. I remember that I shared money with my brother to buy a memory card that has 128 blocks, shared money to buy a Multitap just so we could have a 2 vs 2 on Winning Eleven 4 whenever my cousins came. I feel lucky because I've never had the money issue because all the games were pirated, so the most expensive video game that I spent cost B$6 (~2 quid). I only needed a few weeks to save up.

SNES and N64 by far.

SNES was filled with legendary games, and the N64 was, and still is (in my opinion) the best console for multiplayer games.

N64 and PS2
N64- was during grade 3-6 so 3 years of totally slothing out to Goldeneye, PD, ISS64 and 98,Mario Tennis,Kart and Party. I remember missing school because of chicken pox and completing Goldeneye on 00Agent
PS2- First console i bought with my own money, quite proud as it retailed (back then) around AUD$500. Then i got it chipped and started my scheme of renting/buying games and copying them (to offset my proud achievement earlier) except i religiously bought the PES series (except for 3)
Loads of fun nonetheless, contributed to me failing one english class in College.

I dont think you can beat Nintendo TBH, the Mario games are just awesome even today on the DS or Wii they are still just fun games with hours and hours of fun and even when you beat every level you would start all over again and each time you play them you would find something different.

It's a toss-up between the Philips CDI or the Atari Jaguar for me.

Last year I bought Super Mario World on the Virtual Wii. Brought back some awesome memories.

Anyone ever played that Zombies Ate My Neighbours on the SNES? Me and my cousin would play that ALL the time. Sucked because I would always die first and then I'd have to watch and wait for her to die so we could start again.

It was a team game, Miggy!

She also used to be the person who controlled the character when we played Resident Evil.

N64 is my Favourite console. The hours i spent playing Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark by myself and with my friends, unreal. The 4 players in those will never be forgotten. God, lets not forget when the Wrestling Games got good. WWF Wrestlemania and No Mercy, THQ's first.

Yeah, its settled, N64 for me. Ive nothing but happy memories, in Ireland as a young teenager playing the games with my cousins etc

Next to that its the PC
