Don't pick on the old and infirm. It's neither big nor clever.

It's not Sminky's fault that his alzheimers prevents him from remembering simple button commands. Nor is it his fault that his weakening bladder affects his concentration and interrupts any notion of continued play. Neither is it Sminky's fault that the arthritis in his hands prevents him from holding the controller properly.

The principle of the post however is this: If you are going to belittle someone, at least make an effort. Anyone can just flame a geriatric :folarm:

I've forgotten why I wanted to thank you [scratches head in confused fashion]

I didn't realise my honest appraisal of how shit I am at a video game constituted as whining?

It wasn't like this when we were kids dear boy ... in 1917.

So what you're saying is that A/X, the button used to do standing tackles, doesn't exist? Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

Yet another condescending reply from you, it's clear who you sympathize with; oh, and no, I never said that A/X does not exist, what I actually said is that A/X determines, not only when you tackle, but also how you tackle..... there's an obvious lack of consistency to such a system.

The flaw of such a system is comparable to a passing system where directing the left analog stick without the assistance of any other button determined both the direction of passing and the timing of passing..... a flawed and inconsistent system.

I know you give the nice talk about your opinion and all, but the condescending manner in which you put words in my mouth, words that I never said, is offensive, I'm not as dumb as you want to believe, quit fucking around, I'm not talking about anything complicated here and you are making an idiot of yourself with your laughable retorts.

So what you're saying is that A/X, the button used to do standing tackles, doesn't exist? Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Funny, because I just played a game and what do you know, I used A to do a standing tackle, yet according to you no such button exists. People may complain about that method of tackling, guess why? Because it's been made harder to pull off, which guess what? Is the exact same case in real life. That's pretty much the point I'm trying to explain to you mate. You time pressing and releasing it to do the tackle, it doesn't get much simpler.

First you say it's bullshit that Terry sometimes only does a couple of tackles in a game, which when pulled up on, you just move on to something else. Now you claim there's no standing tackle button, when there is.

I know what you are trying to explain to me, it is very fucking dumb and obvious, you do not need to explain to me something that I already understand; however, what you do not seem to understand is the fact that, by no stretch of the imagination, would I compare such an automatic and simplistic system with real life.

Tell me, do you direct the standing tackle? How about the distance of the standing tackle in accordance to the given direction?

Those two things, direction and distance of the standing tackle, you need to do that in real life when defending, you need to measure those two factors; in PES, it seems rather impossible considering the fact that you cannot direct the standing tackle without also running or moving towards the given direction, you just release a button and the player AUTOMATICALLY executes the standing tackle in accordance to an AUTOMATIC direction and an AUTOMATIC distance..... Yeah, if you think that's realistic, well perhaps that explains your incredibly dumb retorts.

Tell me, how can I not move and at the same time direct the left analog stick towards the south, as far towards the south as the left analog stick can go, without the player running towards the south?

If I cannot direct the standing tackle without also directing the direction that the player is looking at as well as the direction in which the player runs, it makes it impossible to determine something as accurate as the distance of the tackle. Bottom line, I fail to see how such an automatic and simplistic system is "the exact same case in real life", I think you are using your imagination to make up for a lot of fundamental flaws.

First you say it's bullshit that Terry sometimes only does a couple of tackles in a game, which when pulled up on, you just move on to something else. Now you claim there's no standing tackle button, when there is.

Once again being a condescending moron. When did I moved on to something else? I merely decided not to waste me time giving you any credibility, you said that you were pretty sure that John Terry tackled twice, that's merely your word, it's nothing reassuring.

Please, do show me how many times has John Terry tackled twice in 90 minutes of play, give me numbers.

And -- AGAIN -- are we talking about BAL or are we talking about the actual game? Because I fail to see the relevance, I mean, John Terry is one individual, in PES you control ten individuals, so what if John Terry usually tackles just twice in 90 minutes of play? Does it change the fact that in PES you use all the players?

Answer me this: how many times does Dani Alves tackle in 90 minutes of play?

To that number, which is in fact ALWAYS higher than 10 times, you must add the amount of times that Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Pedro, Villa, and the rest of them, tackle throughout the 90 minutes of play..... we are easily talking about more than 20 standing tackles..... Why the fuck is it relevant to consider the amount of times that John Terry tackles in 90 minutes of play? Please do explain.

I'm not moving onto something else, I'm not avoiding anything, I just fail to see the logic of why you consider it a relevant comparison, it doesn't make sense as far as I'm concerned, it is a flawed and dumb argument.

Spent all this afternoon trying out both Pes & Fifa demo's cant really see much to shout about in 12 months,

It seems like the same game but they p*ssed around with the controls too much, ok I remember in Pes 2011 sometimes wishing players would run on ahead of me so i could play them the perfect ball or create openings, this never happened in pes 2011 cos there was no option to control aplayers run off the ball, but its just awkward trying to control a player off the ball while controlling one on it?

why not just assign a button that triggers a players run of the defender ahead, im sure that was what was used in the best Fifa release which was 2009,

now things are just getting complicated, Im not one for just playing the demo then giving up, I buy the game every season regardless & will learn the new system, but like Sminky says with some new features being dificult, Konami will lose some its fans that struggle with adaption, making things more complicated can take away the excitement of playing the game, and it then just becomes frustrating, I usually buy both Pes & Fifa games & last seasons fifa did just this too me, i never played it after the first month cos i just did not like the changes made, & now Konami are trying to impliment the same stupid tweaks, I want an exciting football game not a frustrating one, from the demo so far I cant say im massively overjoyed, but im sure the final release could do itself justice, cos the Pes 2011 demo was nothing like the finished game last season, so fingers crossed

I kind of read it, in and out of a coma.

What you're saying is stupid. When people, like myself use the John Terry comparison we are referring to one defender simply tackling around 2 or 3 times in a game. Maybe less. Obviously you multiply the amount of tackles figure so that every defender would probably tackle around once or twice in a game. Guess what, it varies AMATEUR. Sometimes Chelsea will play a team that they don't have to tackle much and therefore there will be less executed tackles. Other times, Chelsea will play a side where they are under more pressure and are forced to make more tackles.

Are you following so far? Right I'l continue.

The tackling button is there, and guess what again, it does work! Dada!

But you have to very precise, once you make the tackle, like IRL, you have that second where you are committing yourself to a challenge. In the PES game, I don't want to commit myself to any challenges, because on the demo, there are players like Nani and Giggs and Rooney from the first demo (who are good), and Bale, Ribbery, Robben, Eto etc from the second demo (who are class) at precision dribbling.

So it's pretty much like real life Amateur. If you expect to take control of Rangers and constantly tackle Ribbery or Robben then you're obviously not an advocate of simulation football. Skrtel tried to man mark and tackle Bale yesterday and look where that got him, a red card and getting raped down the wing all day. Now you may be better at timing tackles than me and have better reflexes than me, so go on knock yourself out and hit that tackle button all day. It can be done.

But I can't do it, and neither do I want to do it. My defensive unit way of playing is now sound. I rely mainly on positioning players and cutting down space. IF NECESSARY, and only if I have no other option I'll make a standing challenge or go to ground. What you have to understand is that the game is very contextual. If Robben has time and space because you've messed up your defensive line (and this may be from your strikers to your midfield) and he's tearing at you, then don't expect to be able to JUST make a standing tackle against him. However, if you have ushered them into tight spaces and restricted space and surround them with players leaving less options, then your chances of pulling off a tackle or much higher. After my last (albeit long game play post), where I feel completely comfortable with the game now, I went onto draw one and lose two last night.

I don't think that this is game that can be very easily mastered such is the brilliance of the AI. It is the closest thing to a real life being played out, AND THAT's WHAT I WANT. I don't want sweet spots, I want to see different moves, different goals and I want to be dissected if I lose concentration for a second.

I don't have a problem with the game because A) I know I can now keep a clean sheet if I put in 100% effort and concentration B) If I do concede then I can almost every time trace it back, usually to the midfield area where I did something wrong.

Now again, I go back to IRL defending. If you are a good defender and I mean top class, then you hardly HAVE to tackle. Take Rio Ferdinand for example. His role is more of pick up the pieces sweeper these days, but his reading of the game is brilliant. If tackling was SO EASY, why do ninety per cent of defences around the world revert to two banks of four and get back behind the ball? Why doesn't everyone just attack the man with the ball constantly? I'll tell you why, because it's difficult against top players.

For the first time in any PES game since the PS2 days, I fear top players. I totally switch on when I see these players get the ball - Ribbery, Robben, Eto, Bale.

Now I know you'll come back with words like, dumb, condescending, stupid etc etc, you used to use RETARDED a lot but I guess Daddy bought you a thesaurus last Christmas and now you get more points on the Scrabble board for 'Condescending', which is great.

You may also call me stupid for not understanding your great 'Space Theory', and whether or not I want to go through, over, under, or up my arse with it. Go ahead call me stupid, there are many things I cannot comprehend in your posts, you may be onto something and I just don't 'get it', or maybe your talking bullshit.

All I care about is that I want a game that resembles something that I see on TV. For me, this iteration of PES, is as near to perfection, for me, that there is. The movement of my players, the movement of the CPU players. The toughness of the game. The art of defending. The balance between dribbling and passing (I've never been a dribbler, but I am learning all the time about how to dribble effectively). I'm having a scream getting beat, and the adrenaline rushes when I win.

THIS IS MY OPINION, and considering I'm the one that will be playing the game in MY HOUSE this year, to be honest, the only one I have to convince about anything is me.

Now, I don't know what online is going to be like, and I don't know whether or not the effectiveness or rather ineffectiveness of tackling as you put it, will be a major exploit, Time will tell. But when I played my mate in two player this wasn't the case.

As always I'll await your reply.

Well just when I thought it couldn't get any worse I realised I had only been playing on Professional and not Top Player :pinderpalm:

Switched to Top Player and lost 1-0, 1-0, 3-0 (as I regularly did on Professional) but created more chances.

It's easily the hardest version of PES I've ever played, there's too much for me to comprehend in terms of dribbling and off the ball controls. I'm bloody awful at PES2012, for me its just too difficult.

I think that's me done with PES. I honestly can't see myself getting any better.

PES is amazing. I still remeber when i played my first match on top player in the first version of PES i lost 2-1 to Greece and i thought i would never be able to smash the AI on topplayer. even learning to 1-2 was bloody difficult.

PES 2012 is simply amazing. Just played 4 games with America and Internacional. The game seems better when players have a bit lower stats.

Tottenham is overrated in this game.

@Amateur - Have you played the demo yet? You've been making a lot of comments on it.

OK, after playing a few games on Top Player last night, I've noticed that the gulf between Top Player and Professional is huge! I'm struggling to score on TP. Another thing I've noticed, something that's happened too many times to be a coinkidink, is that the period from 75-85mins seems to be a great period for conceding goals. In 4 or 5 matches, I've gone 1-0 up, only to concede around that time.

I'm really enjoying the 2nd demo much more than the 1st demo. Didn't really have the desire to play any more games on the 1st demo after one game whereas with the 2nd demo I keep wanting to play it. (The only thing putting me off is the wankin' video).

I'm finding the game to be alot more free-er and fluid i.e. more like FIFA without having the FIFA feeling.

It's just the damn keepers....they're simply not on par with the brilliance of the rest of the game

Started to play on top player last night. Got 2 draws quite satisfied 0-0 and 1-1. Had another go on tp this aft. Best game of footy i have EVER played for enjoyment (Despite getting twatted 5-2). But 1 of there goals were my fault. Pressed pass instead of clear on my line straight to robben who drilled it home. Another one of there goals was a hint of offside (Spent 5 mins debating with the mrs who said it wasen't). My 2 goals were tremendous out the box efforts from pandev, Who seems to be decent on this game. Real end to end stuff. If i lost 5-2 on fifa id have gone wild

Had a complete change of opinion, I have been having a few games today & feel im getting used to the system better, I went back & had a few games on 2011 and now I can see its a huge improvement, i must admit Im finding it not as easy to score, but im now creating some amazing opertunities,

@ Sminky Ive found that holding down X to apply pessure & R2 at the same time helps with defending and quickly switching between the covering defenders using L1 button one of them gets a foot in & breaks up oposition attacks, or timed well can perform much easier slides,

It just needs time, I think its great now!

Keep with it lads, please, please keep with it. It took me ages and ages and ages. On the first demo, Napoli would repeatedly hit me for four or five. I remember playing Napoli for around fifteen (yes 1 5) consecutive games because they would beat me so easily, I figured they were the best to practice against. On demo 2 I practised against Bayern lots and lots because they had Robben and Ribbery. You draw two out of three against Bayern with those two and you're on the right track.

Another tip I can pass onto you, think real football. Teams are comfortable defending their eighteen yard box, and so should you be. Don't get the jitters if they are playing it around the eighteen yard box, you dive in, you get punished. Position and contain, position and contain. You know you're doing your job if the game just seems to stop as the CPU is awaiting a false move from yourself.

I've reached the point where I'm TOTALLY comfortable with how to play the game. My last ten results for example have probably been 3 draws, 4 wins, 3 losses. This is in Top Player, Assist at 1 bar. I don't use any special buttons to defend just the analogue. I stand tackle occassionally and I slide when I need to take someone out. Don't be afraid to give up ground when they are on the counter (for example if a move breaks down on their eighteen yard box and they counter you). Let your midfield man let him run and slowly concede ground but don't tackle him. The key is to hold him up just long enough for all your players to get back to the defensive positions. Spacial awareness is huge in this game, that's why I now prefer wide cam over pitch even though pitch looks lovely.

The key is to find the way that you feel comfortable with. This is a game that requires that you keep the faith for a very, very long time. But when you get there, the game unravels itself fully. Keep at it guys.

I have found the second demo to be a breathe of fresh and a much needed change of pace for PES. In PES 2011 I was always baffled at the fact people would play the game with -2 speed. As a avid footy fan I watch games every Saturday and super Sunday and always found the movement of players and sprinting and passing ridiculously unrealistic in PES 2011, especially when lowering the game speed. In 2012 I find the movement and speed much more to the level of a actual footy match and have enjoyed the new game mechanics, especially counters and breaks which seem much more realistic than last years PES. Although I'm still adjusting to the system and thoroughly getting my ass kicked in the process, I have found the few goals I do score are flashes of brilliance either from me or a player on the pitch. Which adds a level of unpredictability and entertainment to the matches.

The only complaint I have with the game would be the anti climactic shooting. After seeing Nani's goal against Chelsea and Modric's goal against Liverpool, I would expect their PES counterparts to be able to show similar flashes of brilliance in game. Above all I have found it to be a excellent experience, and am seriously looking to forward to starting my football life on PES 2012.

Bloody hell. I'm skimming over this thread and see a lot of posters whining that it's too hard so want to give up!

These are the same people who'd complain if it was too easy. Give over

Pes12 being so close to how a real match plays out, actually makes it more of a challenge and the longevity undoubtedly increases.

I played the fifa demo and that's very hands on, easy to pick and win even if you're not a veteran of the game. Unfortunately again it's a very shallow game. Sometimes it feels more like a wrestling match with the OTT jostling system, but there is no way in terms of play ability that it is the superior game to PES. The game is lifeless and still every player plays the same. Messi is no better than toure and everything feels like it's done for you. This year they've made a big deal and more emphasis on defending but still it's shit and results in a pressure fest just like last year. You really don't have to do the jostling just press square and you''ll dispossess the player.

As for Pro, I'm still struggling myself getting to grips with all the new features, but I'm not cutting it short expecting to learn it all on a demo.

What I love so far is the ability to dictate the pace of the game, whether you want to keep it tight from the back onward and nick a one nil. Or stretch it and have a open end to end with game different intervals of pace throughout. Now you can use different players abilities according to your tactics. You can really play long ball football to the big man up front and have it be effective. Or you can play it on the ground mixing it up to equal effect.

The weight of the ball and the way players trap it is much improved along with better and more realistic recovery.

One thing that annoys me about the demo is Rangers. Why the fuck are they in the demo? Of all the teams in the world konami allow rangers as a selection! It's like putting bolton or Swansea in the game, who wants to play with them?

I actually enjoyed the dribbling on the first demo a lot more, it felt a lot more fluid and responsive but then you had a lot of people complaining that it was too easy, now it's too difficult.

I love the difficult, I've not even selected top player, yet I'm still getting a challenge and the AI is a lot more intelligent in their movement and tactics

And finally I'm glad they've finally sorted out the refs. Finally a tackle from behind with them being the last man results in a red card consistently now. That will certainly deter the MLO exploits and sore losers who will think twice at chopping at your players at every opportunity.
