Lads - get on Amazon UK now and pre-order Medieval II. At Tuesday at 9GMT they will send you a link to download a brand new demo, including the Battle of Otumba! Then, cancel you pre-order! Yes I personally am wanking in anticipation of slaughtering thousands of Aztecs and sexually abusing their corpses - my right hand is dead so I've moved onto my left.

Also, this will only require SSE (not SSE2), as will the final game, so all us poor folks are okay!

Well i played it last night after waiting for it to download for ten fucking hours!

The tutorial is your basic battle at Hastings. You control William Rufus, son of the Conqueror. You have some mailed knights, Spear Sergeants and Archers. You are sent across a bridge to your flank to destroy some Housecarls and peasents. After that you join the main battle. Very easy basic stuff

The i played Otuma. You are Cortez fleeing the Aztec capital with the natives in hot pursuit. You are outnumbered heavily. You have three units of Conquistadors with Cortez general unit being one. You have two sword and buckler, one unit of crossbowmen and two units of Arquebusiers. You are supported by some allied indians, the Tlaxaclans.

The battle was fierce. I easily dealt with the Aztec army on my left flank with the battle on the right going well. The main hum down was very hard in the center as the battle was in full carnage. Blood is visible as the gunmen were smacking their bullets against native flesh. Cortez was literally down to 2 men by the end of it. But near the battle you get reinforcements and although they take some time reaching the battlefield they do make their numbers count.

Then i played Pavia. You are the HRE allied with the Spanish Hapsburgs fighting against Francis Ist of France. Another good battle with a good array of Gendarmes, Landsneckt pikemen and Zweihanders. The cannon also takes a heavy toll on your army throughout the battle as it is protected by stakes

Agincourt is your basic stuff. The archers really take a heavy toll on the french especially the militia units. My advice is to retire to the ridge in your rear as you can really see what the archers are capable of with the high ground. The stakes are a bit overpowered as the french cavalry insanely charge into them, it would be better to just see them divert and thus becoming broken up and be easy prey for the dismounted men at arms

Almost exactly the same as the rome tutorial. The advisor is better. Also what is very good is that the nations have their own battle cry. I have heard "St George!" "Santiago!" a German one which i can't remember and i am sure i heard "St Denis!" from the charging French. The Aztecs might have said something but i'll be damned if i was listening to there heathen language

I'm downloading it as i type this. Should be slaughtering Frenchmen in about 1:33 hrs.

EDIT: Gentlemen, words alone cannot describe how amazing this game is. I know this is only a demo, but i have been blown away.

I am most definitely going to buy a new 3D card, just so i can fully enjoy this fantastic game.

Then, the sound of a gaul horn spurred their nobles into a frenzied and suicidal charge.

Their glorious charge ended as suddenly as it had begun...



After that, a lot of pissed off Frenchmen charged towards us.



'Vive la France!'



'Hold your ground, men!'



Madness.

By the way, the only reason i lost this battle, is because i was busy taking screenshots and watching people die. I absolutely crushed them, the first time i played it.

This is, undoubtedly, the greatest strategy game ever created.

Is it F2 still for screenshots? It doesn't seem to be working for me. Download the new battle selector from TW center Muad. There are some great custom battles on it. I modified signifier 1 work slightly of a Spanish and Aztec battle. Gave myself two cannon and was just smashing the shit out of the Aztecs. Direct hits against those Coyote priests really reduced their confidence and then i just wiped them out with a sword and buckler and Tlaxcalan mer charge.

I played as the Aztecs then and overwhelmed the cannon with a swift charge. My general was killed by none other than Cortez himself with a sword thrust to the chest. We won but my heart went out to my general

Some guy over at TW center has made a mod with the Aztecs in the city and on the walls of the battlemap of Otuma. Cannon can also bring the wall down. I'll give it a play later tonight

I love it! Although I do miss out as my computer isn't good enough to expose it in it's full glory. Otumba looks great still.

I do however know it can hardly get better than this. Amen.

With my minimal upgrade, i can now run it with it's full potential, using shader 1. Sadly, shader 2 , which enables bloom, reflections and shadows, slows it down a lot, which is a shame because the game looks so pretty with the bloom. I think i'll double my RAM...

That looks like a cheap figurine, Sir Barry. How large is it? Is the store giving those away, or is it produced by the Creative Assembly?

The game is fucking fantastic, words cannot describe how good it is. Much more like the old Medieval in feel, and a lot better than Rome, which to be honest was a disappointment gameplay wise. The AI's a lot better and I'm in wank heaven right now.

Well, i've seen Warhammer figurines with twice as much detail on them.

The game is fucking fantastic, words cannot describe how good it is. Much more like the old Medieval in feel, and a lot better than Rome, which to be honest was a disappointment gameplay wise. The AI's a lot better and I'm in wank heaven right now.
