Of course there is scripting and the odd cursor issues, but from what I've played its certainly not a game breaker as it was on PES2012. I'm pretty good at this version, I've only lost 1 game on Superstar so far and won all the rest. That's something I couldn't do for love nor money on PES2012 ... and certainly not coming back from a goal down as I have on countless occasions tonight.

Its not as good as PES6 obviously - but what is?! - but its really enjoyable, being able to build slowly the passing feels more fluid, players make better runs off the ball, dribbling is rewarding ... I just think its incredible turnaround by Konami. Of course I know there are bound to be frustrations with the final package - but I think because I had no hopes in the first place, this has been a really pleasant surprise.

Both

do u hold down R3?

You can flick the R stick for flicks, well that's what I do and its to work

R2 kills the ball with perfect control. When running with the ball, stop and hold R2 whilst moving in a direction, you'll find your player doing step overs or shimmys. Very helpful in a tight situation.

Played 5 games or so. The king is NOT back in my opinion.

Still the same problems as last year, but now it looks prettier and the shooting is more powerful.

I keep mentioning the pre-determined runs that players make onto passes, this includes defenders trying to intercept passes played over the top of the defence - it's pathetic. If the cursor is over the player, I should have control over where he moves. But several times when I was playing passes/trying to intercept balls over my defence, I let go of the controller... and the player still moved towards the ball. This shouldn't happen! He should stay fucking still!
Imagine if I was playing Uncharted, and Drake still moved around when I put the controller down, how stupid would that be?

There's still some noticeable scripting. If you don't notice the scripting, good for you, but it is there.

All in all, in my opinion it's still incredibly shit, but less shit than 2012. I've deleted the demo already, will try the next one but can't see it being much of an improvement.
Definitely won't be buying PES2013 on the strength of this demo.

Most of you (judging by the comments) will disagree with me, but I couldn't give a toss.

Did you even put it all onto manual, as well as the cursor settings to stop that happening with players?

Thank fu*k you've deleted the demo though, no more whining to hear, but as you said, you couldn't give a toss

The build-up play for this goal is brilliant, something that would be difficult to replicate in other footie games.

Agreed, super cancel is still needed.

But you are nitpicking imo

Another plus. Lob Shot is actually a lob!

I think the standing tackle should only take the tap of one button, not two taps of A, then the defending would be pretty much bang on. Its certainly the best defending in a PES so far I think as it is, but having to tap twice is unnecessary and can cause unintentional mistimed tackles because its that little bit slower to pull it off.

You need to tackle exactly the moment you want to, not have to wait for a slower execution of the tackle when a human's and the AI's reactions are so quick and in that split second for the extra tap the ball possessor has reacted from when you wanted to make the tackle to when you actually execute the tackle because of the extra tap. It could mean the difference in getting the ball or causing a foul.

Possibly pressing X or Y once would be better because I know using A is caught in using hold up play and pressure so using A once is out of the question as its impossible to distinguish between those and tackling.

Noticed this tonight! You no longer have to power it to the max to get the loft you require. Another thing I noticed is that you can direct your headers! I thought the manual part of the game only covered shooting and passing but you can manually direct headers too. Which probably means you can direct overhead kicks and bicycle kicks?

I am still in a state of shock at how good the demo is :eek:hmy: Is football once again back? I still think they will ruin it somehow

I was playing santos vs fluminenese (however the fuck you spell it)

First on professional

1-0

Neymar cross into Borges and a new animation is what I saw. Borges dived feet first about waist height to side foot volley in.

then top player

0-0

1-0

Neymar is insane in this game. Even if a nutmeg or skill doesnt come off he's still got a chance of making his way through. But you cant just use blistering pace to dribble around them.

Anyway, whilst neymar was toying with their defense on the wing, cross comes in, and who else but Borges to score a header?

Another thing, that Ibrahimovic flick goal konami advertise for player ID was used by a defender to clear ;)

minus point - when the opposition keeper has the ball, players still jog in that scripted, spasticated way.(can still be fixed, plenty of time)

(possible) minus point- some of the shorter overhead throws by the keeper seem to looped. Some times an animation where he throws it overhead but into the ground so it bounces fast towards you.

plus point - flicks and nutmegs. I did pull some off,the one that sticks out is a flick by Neymar around a player, leaving him for dead and opening tons of space up, but it seems timing is key and spamming it is not easy.

Shooting is better, but one of my friends claimed long distance is too easy, but i guess it is with the likes of CR7. Manual Shooting is good, but i couldnt handle manual passing, so i play on one bar.

QUESTION - does manual shooting take the players shooting stats into account as in, you direct it top corner, say with CR7, it will go top corner most times and occassionally hit the post and sometimes go way off, and the same shot with say, Titus Bramble, where it will only sometimes go top corner, but most times way off? or is it fully manual, as in it goes EXACTLY where you say so whether you're titus bramble or CR7, if it is aimed top corner, the ball will go top corner (i hope this makes sense)

The general consensus seems to be that PES 2013 is indeed better than PES 2012, which is great news, but is that really good enough?

PES's main goal was surely to go back to beating Fifa like it used to, but from what I've played so far it certainly doesn't even beat Fifa 12, so unless EA take a massive step backwards (the kind seen between PES 6 and PES 2008), I can't really see the new game beating Fifa 13.

Hate to say it, as I used to be the biggest PES fan you'd ever meet, but I think Konami has well and truly lost the football battle on this generation of consoles. Let's just hope the inevitable change in gameplay onto the next generation in a year or two will put them back in the right direction.

bear in mind this is a very early demo. A FULL judgement should be made on the 2nd demo which is coming in september i think

Enjoying the demo, one of the main concerns though is the Computer AI, they seem to be really predictable

They seem too aggressive on the attack, they're constantly looking for a pass forward and running at your defense like they desperately need a goal, as opposed to trying to slowly break you down. Hopefully this is just because the demo is only 5 minutes, but I doubt it. They never pass back if they're in your final third and will try to dribble past you even if it's a player like Carroll or something.

The AI laser guided through ball also seems to be their main weapon, many times they've just been one on one with my keeper. Might just be me needing to get used to the defense though.

would love if it was available on the U.S. PSN store. I have to figure out how to access the eu store; probably easy but never did it before. I really do dislike Konami.

Anyone else find the AI can just split your defence ridiculously easily? They keep finding these killer passes, leaving them one on one.

I keep dominating games, then they get the ball and just one pass and they score

Make a new user, make a new PSN account on it BUT use a uk location, you will get the EU store when you log in to this user (same for japan as well)

another funny youtube review of the PES 13 demo

They're idiots (also at your older youtube review). They think the buttons are the same as fifa. If they learnt the buttons properly, they would know... their loss
