O'dear I hope it doesn't happen to me (well durr lol) my PS3's out of warranty now also, I think :(

Any ideas what causes it or does it just happen randomly?

Surely there's a way of fixing like the 360-ers have to do, to get their console fixed when they're hit by the RRoD.........?

Opening up the case and cleaning the fans and clearing dust could be a start, Dale. Try that, if you're willing to open the PS3 up. But if you fear you'll do something which isn't right, then take it to be repaired mate.

£145 is a lot of money :|

I take it you no longer have warranty on it?

Tried phoning Sony yet? Their Customer Services are said to be very helpful....

Not really, they just tell you stuff you already know. It is worth the money though, a brand new one, you just need to call them up and request for one, as long as it is an internal problem. They just come to your door 3 days later with a bright pink box, take your old one, give you a brand new one.

I dont think at the min it has backwards compatibility, a mate of mine told me it will be an update in the near future
