It is happening again
Did you even put it all onto manual, as well as the cursor settings to stop that happening with players?

Thank fu*k you've deleted the demo though, no more whining to hear, but as you said, you couldn't give a toss

Yes I played on manual and it still happens. The manual/auto settings only cover the passing from what I've noticed. Anyway, my points still stand. If you play a shooter (different genre obviously but still relevant), you can have fully manual aiming, or auto-aiming.... but you still have full control over your player's movement, I don't feel you get that with PES.

It's not whining, it's criticising a series I used to love up until PES2011, but obviously you've got the fanboy blinkers on and won't dare to hear critcicisms over your favourite game. Since I used to love the series, I reserve the right to criticise the hell out of how shit it has become.

Agreed, super cancel is still needed.

But you are nitpicking imo

Another plus. Lob Shot is actually a lob!

I don't think I am nitpicking, I think more control is needed to move PES to the next level.

Oooooh, another thing that annoyed me is that when you play a through ball and try to run on to it, players jog towards the ball and never seem to try and make gut-busting runs to get there.

Actually Ali, this is where you are wrong. This forum is known for fans of pes to criticise the heck out of it when it was needed. Hell, I didn't even buy pes 12 because I didn't think it was worth it. But at this stage regarding the demo of pes 13, you are nitpicking every little negative out of the game and you are overlooking the beautiful positives that neither past pes' nor fifa at this point offer. That's the beauty of build up play, immense individuality amongst teamates and opposition as well as good enough AI to be able to beat you without too much obvious scripting. Something that at this point both pes 12 and fifa failed miserably.

There was 1 time where I was immensely happy with the way the CPU AI played. I was Italy and the CPU was Portugal. C. Ronaldo had a clear chance to either pass or cross or try something else. You know what he did? Much like his real life counterpart, he turned to his right foot beating my defender with pace and blasted a shot from distance which went very close to the bar. This is the kind of things I like when I play a football game and these are the things I looks for the most.

I agree that some of the things you mentioned are still unacceptable, but you are clearly overlooking the positives here and when someone else tries to say that, you bring up the fanboy blind argument which I find annoying and childish.

Just to make it clear. At this point I am not mentioning fifa 13, but fifa 12. I need to try both demos to make such a judgement.

I found the following quote on YouTube,

--------------------------------------------------------------
"The new demo is completely outstanding, the best football game I've played in years, totally outdoing Fifa. With 2012 I felt like Konami had taken a step backwards, but this year they have taken football gaming to a whole new level, and I'm so relieved.

The only downside is that I've gotta wait until October for the full game!"

Does anyone in here share the same opinion as that anonymous dude?

Amateur, it's not as this guy makes it sound, but it is a very fun experience so far that leaves you waiting to play more games. Something that pes 12 failed to do. If you like individuality, free shots while still having individuality and great build up play, you should check this demo out because it does offer something truly unique compared to pes 12.

I've only played a few games so far, so I'll keep this brief until later on:

It plays well, but the goalkeeping animations are still dated, and the keepers still perform quite poorly - and this is just from a few matches. Imagine playing 100 matches? Then it will really start to irritate.

Maybe shouldn't of used the word whining, at the end of the day you're obviously welcome to your opinion, but I find it hard to take seriously when your attitude is "Oh, it's utter sh*t". If your take on it was "Oh, I don't like it" or "Oh, I don't think it's all that good", then I'd probably just accept it, but when you sit and say immature stuff like it's sh*t, then to me that sounds pretty ridiculous.

It's almost like you're playing a different game to everybody else. You're sounding almost like Craney now. But we may as well leave it at that, because it's clear you're not going to change your opinion. For me there's tonnes of new positives built on top of the previous very good to great basing that they created last year. You choose to ignore them all, so yeah.

It is happening again
Personally, shaun, I can see very few improvements on last year. As far as I'm concerned, there are no beautiful positives, and it's only marginally better (or to put it a better way - less shit) than the last game. When playing the demo, I just didn't enjoy it, didn't raise a smile at all. I've often said this about the previous games (PES 2009/2010/2011) that there were many faults which I hated, but I still found it fun for the most, and still enjoyed it. Can't say the same for 2012 and the early 2013 demo.
It's not all set in stone yet though, I hope that I find the next demo enjoyable enough to ignore its many faults, as I have done with previous PES games. I know it'll only be slightly different than this demo, I'm not expecting my criticisms to be fixed, but I want to be able to enjoy it.

I'm happy that some of you have found your love for PES again, but I'm not there at the moment.

EDIT: @ JMTD - I'll say it's shit because I genuinly think it is. I'm entitled to an opinion, don't throw your toys out of the pram because they're different to yours! I've listed SEVERAL reasons as to why I think it's a bad game. Can't you see that I WANT to like the game, but I can't?

@Ali, ok man, I understand that you may not like the game. That's your opinion and it's fine by me. :) Just like even pes 5 was not liked by everyone.

I loved PES 5 from what I remember. :D

Though, the blatant scripting did bring me close to tears of frustration at one point. Was having one of "those games", where I was being cheated out of everything. Had a chance to equalise right at the death, a chance that even David Ngog would have scored, which fell to my top striker, Fernando Cavenaghi (who was a bit of a beast). Played a ball into the box, he was about 5 yards out... easier to score than miss, I pressed square to shoot, he ignores me and lets the ball through his legs.
Good ol' PES!

EDIT: When I say "close to tears", I do actually believe there were some tears shed.

Does anyone know when the next demo is out, btw?

Shooting needs less assistance on the assisted shooting because it is way too easy for me to get a shot on target from really far out with players rated lowly in accuracy. R2 shots might be overpowered too but thats not a big problem now but could be potentially when playing online.

EDIT: @Ali. Probably around Mid-September (Most likely tbh)

Can't really form a opinion yet as I have only had chance for 1 game. I liked it but then always do, I accept the faults as I still remember playing Matchday on my Sinclair 48k & i'm always greatful at how far the games have advanced :)

Just one point to make about the speed of players, Konami cant win on this as in 2011 everyone complained that slow defenders could catch fast attackers so for 2012 they made fast players fast & people then complained that the fast players were being abused as a cheap trick (pass the ball to Ronaldo & run etc).

I cant really comment on 2013 yet as I have played only the 1 game & didnt really try to sprint past defenders. Personally I think this is were online has damaged the game as these kinds of complaints didn't arise when people were just playing the AI or their mates.

Reading the comments, I'm so excited by this!

I really liked 2012, felt it was the best PES since PES6. So if its an improvement on that and they have not changed much then i'll be happy.

Only thing that bothers me about PES 2012 is that some players seem to affect the balance of the game online (Messi, Ronaldo). And that crap players can beat you by running down the wing and scoring headers.

I hope this year its a little more balanced. Can anyone comment on this?

I'm getting the demo tonight but I can't wait! I love PES! Wish more of my friends still played it!

I played the Japanese demo for 5 hours straight last night (I'm in America) and for those who said this is the same old thing, surely you haven't played more than a couple of matches. At first I thought the same, but then it hit me that the player movement is more fluid (despite very few new animations), dribbles work better (Neymar is a monster!), passing feels really good (even long passes, which I've always avoided using because they were so imprecise), etc.

HOWEVER... TRY PLAYING USING MANUAL! Whether you use L2 (PS3) or the full manual shooting, this changes EVERYTHING about the gameplay drastically!!! I used the full manual passing (with L2) to make some spectacular passes and a couple of goals I never thought I could in PES 2012 (those that resemble Iniesta looping a ball over the last line of defenders for a running Messi). It's incredible. After a few games I could not put it down.

That shit right there, does irritate me a little: I mean, if I want to play on full manual, why the fuck would I need to press the L2 just to pass the ball?

I hope they offer some control options in the settings menu, because pressing the L2 button every single time you want to make a decent pass, is bullshit. Why do you need to press the L2 button? Am I missing something here?

I mean, what the hell happened to simplicity: do you want to play on full manual? (the computer asks you) And you respond: "yes". Then the computer goes: "now you will not need to press the fucking L2 button whenever you want to make a manual pass, thus making it a more innovative experience control-wise"

Other than that, I've heard positive things from reliable sources.

Just drew 1-1 as Flamengo against Santos. Got cut in half for their goal ... still my own fault, rushed my defending. One thing I've got to say, Ronaldinho is an absolute beast, he will break out into auto shimmy's if you stand still with him, it looks cool as fuck.

That sounds awesome! Have you tried the dribbling yet?

You don't have to always press L2/LT. You press those to be given the guided arrow (if you have it switched on. If not, then you can use LT/L2 to simply slowly build up your manual game), which is likely there to help practice manual passing/shooting. If you turn assisted passing off, you don't have to press LT to do a manual pass from what I've gathered. So far I'm using assisted passing, but using LT at times to do a manual pass whenever I want, which is a really good addition as it means you don't have to jump straight into full manual mode and can instead gradually build yourself up. Same with manual shooting too mate.

My only fear with manual shooting being in the game is that it is going to be abused. Hopefully you cannot score from the same angle. I haven't really tested it as such yet. I have scored a couple of goals using it but it has been when the keeper was coming off his line. The manual low shot works a treat for good placement.

I still wish they would take away being able to highlight a specific player during corners and freekicks, it is abused like hell. It seemed a good idea at first to me but when someone keeps bringing up there tallest player and has a good corner kick taker it is only a matter of time before they score. I have actually stopped using that cheap tactic because that is what it is. When you compare the amount of goals you score from it compared to normal corners you can really see they have made it too easy to score using that method. I really do wish they would take that feature away.

My criticism is fairly simple really: if you do not want to play full "manual", then yes the L2 manual control is greatly useful.... However, is it not fair, that if I prefer to play with zero assistance, that I do not need to press the L2 button in order to perform a manual long ball?

I'm not saying that is the case with PES13 (because I haven't played the demo yet), but with PES12, passing the ball with L2 and passing the ball without L2, was very different irrespective of the assistance settings: with full assistance, L2 was manual; with zero assistance, passing the ball without the L2 is not manual, meaning that you still need to press the L2 button if you want to execute a manual long ball, even though you're playing with zero assistance.....

So what I'm saying is extremely simple: the people who play semi-manual only need to press the L2 button when they want to make a fully manual pass.... therefore, by that very same principle, is it not fair, that if I play with zero assistance, that I only need to press the L2 button whenever I want to make an assisted pass? Therefore reversing the usage of the L2 button so that the L2 button can work usefully both ways?

Nah man, I'm not digging that at all, but are you comparing them to FIFA?

The Goalkeeper animations for me are just fine, I've seen a lot of variety in keepers as well, at certain heights they react in different ways - as you'd expect - at waist height I've seen some amazing one handed saves, down low they are often beaten with quick and well placed shots. Up high the pirouetting tip over is very well animated. It makes me consider my shooting that little bit more.

Everything about this demo makes me understand why early reviewers compared it to PES6, it has the enjoyable simplicity but challenging enough without resorting to teams only playing one way.

I'm with Pategato on this one, this is miles better than PES2012 ever was and I just can't wait for the full release in October.

It is happening again
I hated the first 2012 demo last season, but liked the 2nd one. I didn't play the full game for very long before gettting annoyed, but who's to say I won't change my mind over 2013 when the next demo comes around?

Maybe I would have liked it more if Sminky and Mak didn't big it up as the 2nd coming.... damn you raising my expectations to unimaginable levels!

Another thing going against PES this season for me, is that Bolton won't be in it. I've always done my first ML as Bolton in each game, so that option won't be available in the next game. Obviously I could create Bolton, or d/l an OF with them in it.... but it's not the same, I hate using fake teams.
