I'd go for FIFA if I was you, mate. PES hasn't been the same since the PS2 days, I used to love PES back then but not anymore, I've even stopped bothering to buy it which is a shame I know :/

I hope PES10 comes up and really pushes FIFA, but I'm afraid FIFA will take the 1st prize once again. Just looks so impressive.

Oh, and has Dave Rutter mentioned anything about fixing player ratings during the match?

Very annoying and wrong when players are out into positions they would never play in real-life and their overall rating goes up by about 10 during the match. That's a thing which needs sorting.

Something like the player can only have 2/3 specific positions that he can play. Stick Evra up front and his rating should get cut in half.......

Ive just seen the pes gamecom vids, and boy, ea must be pissing themselves.

Right from the beggining I picked fifa for the win this year.

The secret is their engine, ive always said that, it just allows far more realism.

The way the players move is nuts, no rushing about like headless chickens, you can take lots of time in the middle and distribute passes and run the game with a pirlo or xavi type player.

Guess it's purely preference as opposed to which game is "better" though. After about 4 months, I got bored of PES 2009 and bought FIFA 09, which I sold 1 month later. I just didn't really enjoy it, especially when a lot of the goals seemed identical, in the sense that there was specific angles in which you would more often than not score from e.g. being parallel to the goal line on the edge of the box etc.

The general consensus was that FIFA 09 was the best football game in years, but quite simply I didn't think it was all that great. Fair enough the slow build up play was solid, the passing was perfection, but the shooting was very poorly executed, not to mention there was no player individuality and sense of who you are really controlling. I love to play with someone like Beckham, because they're so distinguishable, and I'll whip Hollywood-esque passes all game, purely because I'm playing with Beckham. The same goes for Ronaldo, I'll dribble and do stepovers constantly with Ronaldo because...well...it's Ronaldo, it looks like Ronaldo, it feels like Ronaldo, it is Ronaldo. With FIFA though, I don't get this real sense of individualism.

There's no doubt FIFA have the edge online, whereas I could play PES all day on single player with the Master League (all the new features this year are shaping this season's ML up very nicely). If PES manage to re-enact their PES6 online success, I can see this being the best PES in about 5 years.

But to be honest, I think you either enjoy one game or the other, I can't see myself ever enjoying FIFA really, especially if FIFA 09 was supposed to be the pinnacle and I still got bored of it very quickly. As long as FIFA is perceived to be good then I'm fine with that, because that will mean Konami will be pushed to create better games every year.

Mate honestly, the general consensus is, once you play fifa 10, you cant touch fifa 09 ever again, no lies, there were people who played the 50% fifa 10 build, andjust couldnt touch fifa 09 again.

And for me fifa 09 beat pes 09 hands down, thats my opinion of course.

Point is...

Wait for the reviews.

Yes....good piece of advice there.

Wait for the reviews. For both games. From multiple sources.

Whos your money on?

Seriously on the fifa forum (i read them, not post, i grew up with pes innit lol)
they were saying how good pes was gonna be and how we were gonna have 2 great games.

Till those gamescom vids......

lol.

Well this last year is the first time I've played FIFA without instantly wanting to go back to PES. I've played both games a fair amount and there are certain things I like about both. PES does require an actual evolution which we may or may not get. Some of the FIFA movement annoys me but the style of slower build-up etc. is a positive. I couldn't really say as I don't feel I know enough but I'm interested to find out.

Looking at early builds and analysing them to bits is good for a forum such as this but I prefer not to as half of what you're referencing will have changed by the time the final build is released.

Waiting....
I don't bother making purchasing judgements based on reviews. I'm going to download both demos. That doesn't even matter, either, to be honest. I know I'm going to get both games, anyway. If the demos aren't all that, I'll wait for the games' prices to drop to about £20. I won't be buying them solely based on the demo; I'll be looking at what real gamers think of it.

If you asked me, I'd say FIFA was good for 2 months and after that I was amazed at how scripted and "move here-pass there-goal" it really is. It does beat PES9 but the older versions just kick too much ass.

Watch this video, then look at pes 2010

Difference is serious, even with horrendous players playing it.

You're fine to big FIFA up as much as you like in this thread, but however much you hammer it home in the PES section, it isn't going to work. Face it.

Read my latest post, im being gracious (as usual lol) you be suprised how many people bring up fifa in my presence with me never having to say a word. And like i say, Im not even that pro fifa, im just not deluded.

I know what pes was about 10 years ago, and i know what it is now.

Its not great.

Comparisions will always be made especially when both games were present at the same convention.

I know, but every single day you point out how bad PES is looking like it's going to be compared to FIFA and it turns into one big argument with different people.

We're better off just waiting for both games and then discussing it. Even then, guys will stick on the side of the game they play if they don't own both by just saying "lol, animations" or "lol, still no individuality". It's good that people have an opinion after owning and playing both games at length, but as I say, hammering said opinions down day after day isn't going to help when they're arguing against the game for which the forum is designed.
